Dude you’re not friends with them
@@ryantwitter343 who said theyre friends with them
Dave and Krist were friends and still are friends. When someone as large as Kurt leaves the way he did, it leaves a hole inside everyone. Both had said that with the benefit of hindsight, each of them could have done more for Kurt but they didn't know how bad off he was as he and Courtney hid the extent of his problem well. They said Kurt would disappear for 2-3 days at a time when using and then he would clean up for a couple of months and get in the studio but after the In Utero tour, his usage increased, there were discussions of a divorce, the band was fighting behind the scenes because Kurt was off, etc. Dave and Krist both said they felt if they continued working together, they would always live in Kurt's shadow and everything they did would be compared to Nirvana. Krist has never said he was angry at Dave for starting a new band and not inviting him. Krist has even said that he understood why. Dave has even said that when they get together he instinctively goes to his drums because that is how he jammed with Krist. There is always a special relationship between a drummer and bassist as they both keep the guitarists in line!

Everything that ever happened is underrated
@@industryplant1235 I don't think Chris Squire is underrated!
i think 'oh uh oh' means 'shut up, krist
I'm confused. Krist was already with Kurt and made Bleach. THEN they got Dave. There was no direct connection between the 2 prior. The first Foos album was recorded completely by Dave prior to his forming a band to play it. WHERE was the research on this video?
Apparently Nirvana didn't exist until Grohl joined.
yeah it's absolutely rubbish, devoid of any content and utterly misleading title too. 4 mins in 'they decided not to play together to avoid discomfort.' Laughable. Why do these idiots bother making videos?
Agreed, they act like Bleach never happened
Grohl makes a point of emphasizing that he was one of a revolving door of Nirvana drummers. That band was essentially Cobain/Novoselic and whoever else. What Grohl joined was the Nirvana of _Bleach_ , and I doubt he thought his playing style was really fitting for that ensemble. In fact, if things had turned out differently, I bet Grohl eventually would have been replaced even if he hadn't been allowed to grow as a songwriter and vocalist.
Novoselic has a sound reminiscent of Killing Joke's Paul Raven, and it's an integral part of the sound of Nirvana. Adding him to Foo Fighters would have resulted in something that I doubt he (and definitely Grohl) would have wanted, meaning, a Cobain-less Nirvana. If you doubt that, then listen to "I Should Have Known Better", which sounds both like Nirvana and Killing Joke, mainly because of Novoselic's presence. Foo Fighters is a better band than that.
Yeah, so much incorrect info in this video. Feels like it was just made for clicks... like most stuff is these days.

The Nirvana era was a magical time
Dave did all of the self titled album. Greg Dulli was the only other musician to play on the album. Playing guitar in a single song. "X-Static". Dave kept it anonymous as to who this band was and handed out copies to people. "The Colour and the Shape" is the first album to feature the musicians we'd come to know as the band. Dave did drums for all but 2 of the tracks.
Actually, Dave re-recorded the drum tracks on Color because Will Goldsmith wasn't playing what Dave was wanting. Will found out and was so mad he quit even tho Dave wanted him to stay on as a touring member of the band.
@@tencentpistol1 Yes this is true. But the end result is Dave only kept 2 of Goldsmith's tracks, hence he recorded all but 2.
@@lancelange9377 yeah, I read that as Grohl originally recorded those tracks without Will. We're both right, just a confusing sentence. 😉✌️🤘

@@tencentpistol1 I wasn't very detailed with my information, so it's understandable.
Nate Mendel and William Goldsmith didn’t have anything to do with the Foo Fighters debut. Dave Grohl played every instrument, with the exception of a guitar solo on X-Static, played by Greg Dulli
I don't know Krist well, but he is in my orbit. I have a sketch from his equally brilliant father. Krist is thoughtful, intelligent, and someone I respect for his grounded, brilliance. I love talking to him but do my best to not be a fan boy. All I can say is that sometimes meeting your hero is the best thing at the best time. Thank you Krist.

Sounds like you come at him with the right energy and get the real Krist as a result, really glad for you :)
Well said, he seems like a really well rounded nice guy. Also happens to be a great bassist!
In an interview years ago, Dave said he invited Krist to be in his band and Krist was already doing music with someone else at the time and said no thanks.
It’s really weird how much of this story they adjusted and isn’t really how things happened (it’s worded weirdly, like Krist started Nirvana as a creedance cover band, which just isn’t true, he may have thought of starting one, but Nirvana was Kurt’s band and him and Krist were old, really good friends) Which is odd considering the story of Nirvana and Foo Fighters has been told literally by the members of both bands, like she said Dave started making music after Nirvana and wrote, recorded and played all the instruments, then found a touring band and started work on the first Foos album, but Dave wrote and recorded that album alone and got the band together to tour it, none of them were involved in the first album. I wish these channels did even a little research, it’s not like Dave hasn’t told that story a hundred times.
Yeah it was hard to take the rest of it seriously after opening with that version of events. I really appreciate the focus on Krist's origins with the band, but we all know it was really Kurdt + Krist going through a bunch of different band names and drummers before deciding on Nirvana with eventually Chad on the stool for the longest time up until Dave appears.
Yes, the facts are off
bcuz whoever wrote this video was stupid n lazy. they don't know what they're talking about at all. that was a joke.

It’s also an AI voice. Did you hear how she pronounced “bassist”? Is this just AI written? It does often confidently misstate facts after all.
Yeah also this video is just a whole bunch of nothing.
No matter what happens, I love Krist.
Factcheck: Dave Grohl wrote and recorded the entire first album by himself. The rest of the band were recruited to tour it.

Real answer is he can barely play the instrument.
Seeing "Nirvana" play live in Los Angeles is one of my favorite all-time concerts. RiP KC
I think he just wanted to retire from the public eye after Nirvana split. Dave did actually invite him to join the Foo Fighters, but he said no.

Guy can barely play the instrument, Grohl is a drummer he has no patients for a bassist that can't play on the beat. How anyone could think he was a suitable basses for grohl is out to lunch.
Dave recorded all but one guitar part on the debut Foo Fighters album. The band formed after the competition of the recording.
Foo Fighters were not the continuation of Nirvana. Why would it be expected that Krist would just join Grohls project? Krist and Kurt played together with 3 other drummers starting in 1987 before Dave Grohl joined Nirvana. Dave didnt join untill 1990. He wasnt even in the Seattle area before then. Nirvana was always Krist and Kurt's band Grohl joined later and those 3 became the Nirvana that the world knows. Pat joined 3 years after Grohl and was only with them less than a year.
Yes. Thank you.
I loved seeing them all reunite for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. That performance was incredible and a great tribute to Kurt Cobain. The singers who performed Kurt’s songs, especially Joan Jett and St. Vincent were awesome. Miss you, Kurt.❤
I’m saddened that The Stinky Puffs weren’t mentioned. It was the first time Krist and Dave got together to play after Nirvana.
I had a friend that did himself in a year before Kurt. After Kurt did it something in my head snapped. Took years to get it back. Just recently started jamming to Nirvana again. Took a while, but time heals all wounds. Love them.

Crazy how foo fighters music was trash when compared to the productions of Nirvana imo
That first FF is so good definitely sounds like a lot of ideas Dave had for Nirvana that hadn’t gotten made for whatever reason. Definitely sounds like a direction a new Nirvana album could have gone in.
Bruh Dave Grohl joined Nirvana after they had already released their first album lol.

There’s so much wrong with the history here
"Surpisingly, Krist Novoselic joined the project (Nirvana) with the intention of starting a Creedence Clearwater Revival band called the Sellouts."
At the time, Krist was trolling clueless music journalists with that bullshit story, and apparently still is.
Nirvana was my fave band. Even was lucky enough to see them one time. But afterward I intentionally chose not to get into any of their bands. Sweet 75 even played 20minutes away. But I chose to skip it. Could've maybe met Krist - small venue. But I'm sure he wouldn't have wanted one more person talking about how much they loved Nirvana to him. Now I wished I'd seen them. Prob woulda been too shy to talk to him anyway.
Foo Fighters I only know what's on the local rock stations that are on at work sometimes.
Nirvana were a doorway for me to a wider range of music that existed not on the billboard charts.
The Locust, The Ghost Wolves, Holy Shit!, Nisennenmondai, Daikaiju, The Crosses, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Melt-Banana, Uzeda, RR Tut Poetic Emcee and the other Planets, Propagandhi, Wood Chickens, Total Hell, deerhoof ....etc....

With Sharon Jones...Dap Tone records. Our midwest state's public radio (which I listened to for a little while) carried Canada's CBC's program 'As It Happens'. They had a segment on a DapTone Records reissue of an El Rego album. Sample song sounded pretty neat. Went to local record store, asked about it. They had it on shelf. Never cite this video for accuracy. Dear lord...
Wrong, Dave grohl made the debut album by himself, and then formed the band afterwards
Great video. Well done. Upvote given. I've been on a huge Grohl and Nirvana bender since finishing Dave's book last week. I wish they'd collaborate more than they have, but it's still nice to know that they are still friends in some capacity. The relationship between Dave and Krist is an enigma to me.
And the answer is....
"The reasons behind this choice were rooted in their desire to avoid any discomfort or tensions that might arise from the past"
REALLY? That's fukin all you got to say?
I am glad that krist didn’t join the foo fighters. I don’t think they would have been as successful as they have been if he did. Nobody wants to be know as “the guys who were in nirvana just without curt”
Absolutely, you make a good point!
They saved the name Nirvana with Kurt. That is the point. So we think the NIRVANA at first. And then think about the other bands. That is the most good things for all members.
Sweet 75 was NOT a 2 piece. Bill Rieflin was there from the beginning. Saw them at Brick by Brick in SD and talked with them at length, took pics, etc. Eddie Vedder was there to support his girlfriend Beth's band, Hovercraft, who were opening.
I heard quite a bit of misinformation in this video. Krist was trying to start a Creedence cover band with various drummers such as Aaron Burchard and Chad Channing, and then when he met Dave Grohl they formed Nirvana. Seriously? WTF? LOL
Yeah this video has no credibility. Dude has Grohl as a founding member of Nirvana lol.
don’t forget the band was honored as hell to have pat playing with them, as a member of the germs.
It was pretty cool when Krist joined Flipper for awhile during one of their reunions. I saw a live tape of it on CZcams -- wonder if it's still here.
the answer is very obvious. nobody wants nirvana reformed without kurt and called something else.
yeah right on. nobody wants those two guys to play together in a band ever again!
what a dumb answer. why would it matter if two of the guys were previously in another band, as long as the music was good who would care? only idiots, and they don't matter. but i guess they do because they vote.

@@shoeengine1161 i mean i could agree with what you're saying if they kept the name and replaced kurt. and maybe what you said factored in to Dave not asking Krist. the idea that some people would view it as trying to be nirvana 2.0. but that's just dumb of people. as long as they used a new name it's not them trying to replace Kurt. and if they had great songs they would have won those people over. maybe dave just wanted to do something completely fresh.
Dave obviously had a HUGE vision and the knowledge and skill to MAKE it happen. I would not have stood in the way of that either. Ride along, you bet. Try to Captain the boat, nope.
Actually Dave has recorded all the instruments himself
he became a politician. dont really know why, but ive heard mostly good things about him.
After Kurt died, Krist and Dave had their own projects. They went their separate ways.
Death of nirvana was the birth of the Foo Fighters.. it just had to happen that way.
Kirst was a childhood friend of Kurt's and really didn't want to do it full time anymore .
The story of how Dave got the gig in Nrivana is incorrect. He was drumming for Scream a D.C. punk band and they broke up in l.a. on tour in 1990. Buzz Osborne knew Scream and mentioned that Dave was available and in L.A. so Kurt and Krist had him come to Seattle to try out. The rest of the story we all know....
Im disappointed that the title isnt "Why Krist Novoselic didn't fight the foo"
Narrator pronounced bassist in the wildest way I have ever heard. “Buh-cyst” 😂 2:36
It's a robot for sure. I'd say the whole video is AI written and narrated.
I thought it was bc dave didn't want peopel to just call Foo Fighters Nirvana II.
Dave had already started writing for Foo Fighters during Nirvana, Krist and Kurt thought it was their drummers silly little art project, and wasn’t going togo from one of the worlds best rock bands, to a silly little art project resulting in a semi cheesy rock band. Even though I like the foos.
Well, that's just Nirvana without Kurt.
RIP the last word of every sentence 🤖🪦
My understanding was that Krist and Kurt were friends long before Dave joined, and Dave never felt that close to them, so when Kurt blew his brains out they never had much reason to stay in touch. His bass-lines were an essential part of Nirvana though. They used a loud/quiet format, lifted from earlier bands like The Pixies, so a good bass player is essential.
Crazy I was JUST thinking about this questions yesterday!
Krist wanted to do his own thing. Nothing unusual about that.
Krist Novoscelic isnt one of my bass influences. He is my bass influence. I fn love Eyes Adift and Giants in the Trees
Krist Novoselic and your Mom are my two biggest bass influences.😮
however, foo fighter would be a little different if dave didn't become a drummer for nirvana n nirvana already had a foundation before dave joined, it was the first album
That base sound got me wanting to listen to Nirvana - Blew
That "Revolver" album was really good.
not once did this video state why krist decided to not join foo fighters.....
That Seattle sound was so Bass forward, I often forget that in Nirvana, Bass wasn’t rhythm it was lead.
Because he wasn't asked.....the end
check out giants in the trees too. The music is diverse, i appreciate krist stretching out. I think it's about being authentic for him, just a guess.
Ummm dave didn't come into Nirvana until nevermind. Tge beginning of this video is wrong or worded weirdly 🤔
Imagine everlong with a krist noveselek bass line.
In my opinion, Dave's vision for FF was to achieve success with exceptional players, avoiding any comparisons to Nirvana. FF rocks!
Another take like the other dude said here was that Dave was fed up with Kurt and was already working on what would become FF secretly, knowing he was probably going to eventually be done with Nirvana or they'd break up had Kurt not took his life. Where as Krist was more proactive trying to save Kurt and had a deeper and longer connection with him than Dave. Which I think Krist hadn't started work on anything outside of Nirvana until quite awhile later...which would seem like another inevitable reason Krist would never have been bandmates with Dave either way 🤔 🤷
Kurt and Chris knew each other first.
'to avoid any discomfort and tension that might arise from the past'.

Also, you incorrectly imply that Grohl was Nirvana's original drummer; they recruited him two years after forming the band.
the sheer extent of errors in this video is unacceptable
They didn't start working together on what would become the "bands" self titled debut. They started working on being able play live versions of those songs already recorded completely by Dave. And nice generic AI version of the "Monkey Wrench" riff at 2:22 🤣😂 Overall, this is still better than many, many other videos covering ancillary topics 🤘 A nice follow up would be a similar exploration of why David Lovering of the Pixies is not the drummer of the Foo Fighters 😉 Third Secret are awesome and thank you for honking their horn.
