      You weren't around on CZcams in 2008, then? I saw people complaining about Pat back then. Not all the time, but it was like they thought he was an insult to Kurt that he was there. But it's been a long time since I saw any of that.
      I remember one particular complaint under the footage for the rehearsals to the Unplugged show, when Pat reminded Kurt about something or other. Never mind (no pun intended) that Pat's literally older than Kurt, *and* that Kurt wanted Pat in the band - none of these facts entered an irritated mind that decided to say its words and express its anger.
      I never got bothered by Pat being in Nirvana, myself.

      Pat remembers hearing about what David Crosby said after watching the Beatles movie "A Hard Day's Night" with the other guys in the Byrds and then saying "that looks like a good job." Before that time, playing in a band wasn't much of a Life choice, but after the Beatles, there was an explosion of Rock Bands in the US(and the rest of the world).
      Now young folks plan to be musicians, and have grown up planning to be stars, without many knowing what's involved. Pat is just glad to work; his time in the Germs was a different era and he knows he's lucky to be alive.

      What was the point/purpose of him being in a No Doubt homoerotic dream sequence? I didn’t even know he was in The Nirvana Band. I got into all of Pat’s SST stuff being a huge fan of Celebrity Skin(hence Gary Jacoby - the other half of Deathfolk). It was my understanding that Dave was going to have a major role in songwriting, singing, and playing guitar for The Nirvana Band(due to the impression his solo Pocketwatch cassette demo made on the other band members), while Kurt would become the drummer and occasionally sing. I also heard C.Love wanted Kurt to leave The Nirvana Band to start a duo with Michael Stipe, something in the vein of Deathfolk. Gone too soon, it was such a great time. Almost a decade… I love you Kurt. Rest well in Nirvana, sweet Prince.

    Awesome video dude. There is just one indiscretion I feel needs to be corrected. When Pat left the first time, it was because Dave had been dating Louise Post (well after his divorce from Jennifer Youngblood) of Veruca Salt fame (incidentally she provided background vocals on everlong). Anyhow Dave found himself getting very intimate with Winona Ryder & decided that he would break things off with Louise so he could pursue a relationship with Ryder. Except Dave thought that doing so over a long distance phone call would be sufficient. Pat was good friends with Louise & was none to impressed with Dave’s “horny teenage schoolboy antics” & sided with Post over the whole ordeal, also prompting Pat’s decision to leave the Foo Fighters.
    Everything else is spot on the money dude 😉

    I never thought of or considered Pat as being a good guitar player. He sticks to mainly barre chords and doesn't do leads. You don't have to do leads as a rhythm guitarist, but to know how to phrase helps, which is a big part of playing lead. I think due to the 25th anniversary of Nevermind's release with how the band kept gravitating towards female artist, perhaps Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey (both from the Go-Go's, which has a former Germs member in it), or Vicki Peterson from The Bangles.

To answer your question: I recently read J Mascias from Dinosaur apparently was offered the job twice @ different points before Kurt met Pat, so I've always wondered what could've been if he & Kurt had the chance to write together... (If you ever need someone to help work on editing or whatever hit me up, I'm starting my own channel about Nirvana bootlegs)

    • @ashcan6
      @ashcan6 Před 3 měsíci +4

      I think that Mascias would have been too much talent crammed into one spot. Plus, as cool as J is...I dunno. He's J. He kinda walks around in a coma of some sort.

    • @gwoodtones
      @gwoodtones Před 3 měsíci +2

      Yes there’s a reason j. Didn't accept it.. he just had to do his own thing. He would have been limited with nirvana... and if nirvana gave Him total freedom... it wouldnt be nirvana anymore...

    • @neilpatrickhairless
      @neilpatrickhairless Před měsícem

      Doesn't help that J. Mascis is a better guitarist than Kurt, a better bassist than Krist and at least as good at drums as Dave Grohl is. Would be like Van Halen hiring Sammy Hagar

    IMO, lots of guitarists could have played those parts. What Kurt was looking for was someone who brought him balance. "If you dont want to get disposed of, be indisposable"

      He also wanted someone with punk/underground cred. Kurt wanted success but he didn't want the kind of success they got. He didn't want the shows to be full of average MTV viewers who came to see "Smells Like Teen Spirit", he wanted the shows to be filled with fans that understood them and connected with the music, not their video on MTV, the kind of fans that a band like the Germs had, just on a bigger level.
