Thats a gear type water pump, the gears will be either cast iron or bronze. I had one just like that years ago with an electric motor, came from a well but I found that with a bigger motor it made enough pressure to use as a wash down pump, not quite a pressure washer but far more pressure than a normal hose pipe. But it could also be a rubber vane type pump.
That's not a pump for water!!! It's intended to pump oil, or potentially, fuel - it may well be from a petrol pump ⛽, which explains why it has dissimilar metal rotors and a bronze body. The purpose of which is to eliminate the risk of sparks between internal moving parts. Incidentally, the bronze rotor is worn out. Whereas the pump will still deliver liquid at some pressure, there will be a lot of leak back. And yes, it would pump water, but the pump would be wrecked in no time, plus, the steel rotor would rust within hours of contact with water. Another job for that engine could be to drive a car dynamo - it would be a useful tool for charging batteries when you're away from an electrical outlet, and would still make a different and interesting display piece - a sort of "two for one" piece of equipment! 👍
It is definitely an oil or fuel gear pump , not for water, The top gear is the driver , the bottom is the driven or slave gear . There are arrows on the pump casing showing a clockwise rotation , ( Not bi directional ) the oil or fuel is carried over on the outside between the pump casing and the gear space as the gears turn and they mesh the oil or fuel cannot return thru the middle and is pushed out on the discharge side Right hand side . Some people believe that the fuel / oil is pumped thru the centre between the gears this is incorrect .
As others have mentioned not for water, needs the fluid as a lubricant. The cover has transfer ports in it depending whether L/H or R/H is at top will dictate the direction of rotation at the pulley.. Freeze the video @26.42 and you can see the 2 angled ports. Good luck! 👍😀🇬🇧
I said in the last video that the carb slide wasnt open as you need a throttle lever , adjusting the screw wont do anything . It will stop when you let go as you need a throttle lever
I would imagine that the throttle cable is how you shut it off by closing the throttle slide/needle cutting the fuel supply, the part you adjusted is just the cable adjuster not idle screw
The carb on the model o engine (the green one) appears to be missing the tickler, rather than having a conventional choke lever. It is a hooked end pin that protrudes from the open hole in the carb top. Lifting it allows the float to rise further letting more fuel in. Running without it means the float level will be incorrect....from memory.
As others have said, it is an oil pump and you turn around the back cover to match direction of rotation to supply lubrication feed to the pump bearings.
Looks like the shafts of the engine and the pump are the same size you could connect end to end with a coupler. Unless the pump needs to run faster than engine rpm. Then big pulley on pump little pulley on engine
Thinking the pump is more a diesel/oil pump as this would keep it lubricated,definitely not water,nice little engine,carb must work different from a normal Amal,watching from my hotel room in France

There's a rotation direction arrow on the back of the pump which would tell you how to mount it one way will be right the other would be the wrong way.

Hi Adam the pump you were playing with is directinal but you have to turn the end plate that you took off so the arrow right or left is at the top in the direction you are turning it If that make sense
That throttle adjuster only works against the cable outer sleeve. As the other end isn't fixed properly nothing is being adjusted. We watch you pulling the outer sleeve up and down and the inner cable will not move and never will unless the ends are fixed.
Come on you worked on lots of bikes, you know that the adjusting screw you just fiddled with ONLY works when both cable cover ends are attached. That’s why when you pulled on the cable it ran. Before that the slide never was open allowing air and fuel into the engine.😂

That pump to me looks like a hydraulic pump so would pump hydraulic oil around which would be the lubricant.

They may be noisy and smelly but you can't beat the sound and smell of a 2 stroke

Another idea ... run an old 12V car-dynamo (or even an alternator) ... followed by some "inverter" ... to make a small generator?

Probably an extractor fan would be a must,to stop you killing you self in the shed.
Amal 308 carb same as many cyclemotors, such as my Berini and Cyclemaster.
