If you're interested, that pool filter sand is called aqua quartz 20 grade pool filter sand ive had it before its pretty easy for me to get locally and its a little pricey but pfs but well worth it compared to something like carribsea

Nice fish and maybe turtles. I think a HOG2 algae scrubber would reduce nuisance algae for either, and lessen the water changes :)

Didn't Scott have that massive 500 gallon in wall tank? Can't imagine you would build a tank that size then move, it would be hard to take with you.

Hey Steve, how do you manage the light only really enlighting the foreground (ive witnessed this on all of your tanks) ? I mean, yes, i also put the light as far as possible to the front, but when im upping the light strength of the LED to really highlight the fish, the LED enlights the whole Aquarium and not only the foreground. Is there any kind of cover over the other half of your tank, that the light of the LED doesnt shine onto the background. The only way in achieving SOME KIND of similar result as u have it, is by dimming the light to the lowest amount. This in fact, leads to the fish not being that shiny anymore.... I don’t cover the back part usually. pulling the light forward usually does the trick for me.

Steve Poland Cichlids yeah I'm thinking it might be something else, I work at the LFS in my area and we get assorted peacocks, and sometimes they accidentally mix in other African cichlids. The ones I got are really slim in body (torpedo like) which makes me think they're haps and they have long faces like predator haps, the coloring is electric blue like an ahli or azureus but they don't have spots

+joey prince I show how I braced it in the video I did about the installation. I'm not an expert on the engineering of when to brace or not but I'd say if you're worried then go ahead and do it.
