  • This week I'm doing a deep cleaning of my 125 gallon African Cichlid aquarium. While I have the rocks out I'm going to change up the hardscape a bit to make more room as the fish grow to their full size.
    Apologies for the gratuitous rear-end shots in this video.

    I'm about to get my second ever tank here very soon. I'm getting a 125 gallon, it's bare with no accessories other then gravel. I'll be starting with bare bones which I'm excited about. I currently have a 39 gallon with about 26 different fish and just recently aquired a tiger Oscar.... Hence the need to upgrade. He's a baby right now, my tank is fine for the next month or two, but he'll need more room and less tank mates..... Especially less small ones like my serpae tetras lol

    Hey when you did the water change. Did you leave your canisters running underneath your aquarium. I have a 125 and was wondering how to do a deep cleaning like that. Do I leave the canisters running or turn them off? And also I'm running a fx6 and a fx4 on mines. When I clean the canisters do I clean one at a time or leave one dirty for the bacteria can can be put back into the aquarium. Then clean the other a few weeks later?

I'm looking to convert my 150 from a community tank to Africans (peacocks and haps as well). I currently have 4 clown loaches in the tank that I'm planning to keep as well as two bristle nose plecos.

    • @StevePolandAquatics

    Hi Steve, pls have u ever experienced brown algae problem? I am following Your setups and it always seems perfectly clean!! I have a 6 months old, some 300gal setup and cannot get rid of the brown stuff... tried all the recommended procedures :/

    • @StevePolandAquatics
      @StevePolandAquatics  Před 5 lety +1

      Less light is always the solution in my experience. Bristlenose plecos can help as well but either turning down the brightness of the lighting or running it for as little time as possible each day will make a huge difference.

    • @ivanmacko8332
      @ivanmacko8332 Před 5 lety

      I read about the brown algae to be micro organisms, actualy reacting opposit- more light makes their life more difficult. Anyway, thanks for the advice! I will definitely try adjusting the lighting! Moreover, I built myself a nitrate reactor using my 3d printer and De*nitrate from seachem ;) will see how that works in couple months...

I do not have filtered water or a place to install one so I will be putting tap water in buckets along with with the appropriate chemicals. But what do I do when I need to do sizeable water changes? I noticed you put the safe directly in the tank. Do you think I can put tap water in the tank along with safe and the fish will be healthy?

    Hey, I've been having a lot of fish die on me recently, with no signs of disease or injury. I have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate, 79 degree F temp (suitable for all of my fish), tons of live plants, no copper or chlorine levels, the conditioner (SeaChem Prime) is not expired, and the filters are well maintained (both the HOB and Canister) in my 55 Gallon Aquarium that's been set up for quite some time now. I've lost 7 fish in total so far, one per day for the last week, and I think, the final resort, is to deep clean the tank and change out the gravel. Of course, I'd keep some gravel so the tank doesn't lose it's cycle, and I'd also save some water to keep the bacteria alive, but I think I need to scrub down the tank, all of the plants and decorations, and change out a majority of the filtration (keep some to keep the tank cycled) and then re-add my fish. This would obviously stress them out, but I feel it would save their lives. Do you think this is a good idea?

    Overkill, you got rid of majority of the beneficial bacteria. Aquariums should never be deep cleaned like this. At least not all at the same time.

      +Truth Teller Putting All Frauds To Shame I have three large canister filters on this tank loaded with bio media. So no, I most certainly didn't get rid of the majority of the bacteria. Maybe it's time to change that username?
