Both the players and the manager himself are equally responsible for Barcelona's shortcomings lately. Real Madrid being out of the Copa Del Rey meant that Barcelona's best chance at winning some silverware this season, they blew it by losing to Athletic Club on extra time and given the way they're playing, I don't think they'll win La Liga or the Champions League. Despite their injuries, Real Madrid are the frontrunners to win the league, and there's something special in the air about this Girona team this season, and Barcelona have their own problems, injuries, players not being consistent enough, only showing up when they're losing or drawing, the tactics of the manager, substitution choices team selection etc. I know this isn't Barcelona 2009, but still on paper, we expect them to do a lot better from what we've seen from them lately, because they have good defenders and the back 4 of Kounde Araujo Balde and Christensen was their title winning defense last season, and have one of the best fullbacks in the world in Joao Cancelo now and when everyone is healthy they have one of the best midfields in European football and all they need is for Pedri to stay fit consistently regain fitness and form and also needs a number 6 and attack apart from Lamine Yamal, the less said about it the better.
What's going on then, because in games Barcelona don't look bad, they just never sustain momentum and the players aren't playing well and also Xavi ball itself isn't working out either. Their defense has been shaky and has conceded loads of goals, their midfield is lacking a defensive stopper and don't have a balanced midfield due to them not having a number 6, and from an attacking perspective, they're ok and can be much better. Last season, even despite having shortcomings in Europe, Barcelona won La Liga which was great for them, now they're set up to have a trophyless season and with or without Xavi, we all have to accept that their road back to being an elite club will be difficult and a slow transition due to them relying on youth academy players their financial problems and Xavi is still not an elite manager and I don't wanna blame all of his problems on him, I just think that he's not done terribly he can do better. Maybe when they were a team in transition who knows, Xavi was the right coach for this team, but right now this isn't enough and I'm here for patience, at the same time, you wanna see the right results from this team.

That's the problem barca instead of going a full rebuild and try to get their financial situation under control they doubled down with signing expensive players. The young players can grow with the young coach. I think barca has to accept that they have to rebuild, and also they have to be honest with the fans too and be like, “guys we aren’t going to win any silverware for the next 2-3 seasons but we are going to work on dominating for the following 10 years”. Instead they be selling hopes to the fans that they can indeed win. They have one of the best academy in football and also have that prestige. They just have to get more young players, build them up, then when you are ready to compete bring in some seasoned players to provide balance and experience. That is how I would try to fix the Barca situation

I'm really starting to fear for frenkie. He's the only Barça player I adore and his love for the club will really impact his trophy collection and the legacy he'll leave after his career. Our midfield is an unbalanced. We lack a proper CDM. That is the difference this season. Busquets had the ability to control a game. We don't have that anymore. Look at what happened to Liverpool. Their midfield was weak and unbalanced.

I am big Barca fan and I agree with a lot you say, but I actually don’t blame anyone for this game. We have a very young squad, and we should accept the fact that it is a process and we can’t have superstars, so we have to build around it. Arteta took many years before he could do something with his squad, and regarding the defensive problems, we don’t have a pure CDM. Frenkie is amazing, but is not a pure ball winner like Rodri. Last year we had Busquets covering the back line so it changes.
We could have won, but we lost, and it’s very acceptable. No one is to blame, they have a more intense squad with more changes which can come from the bench. Maybe if Gavi was here it’d have been different

It's 100% the players at this point, the players can change and have. If they want to play and do good, barca is the best team in la liga. Xavi has been at fault sometimes for the backline formation, but if you look at the mistakes from Araujo, Kounde, Iñigo, and Iñaki Peña, it's primarily the players fault. The Attacking players are also doing poorly, they are missing chances and making very poor decisions near the penalty box/final 3rd. Barca is just doing very poorly and I think that the players need to step up.

Nah y’all don’t get this. Barca did not have a financial problem to deal with the transitioning from old players to new players. Their problem was that while they had the financial means, they spent the money on replacing those old players with players of the “similar” profiles instead of buying players with qualities that could keep up with the changing game. Barca is obsessed with playing their traditional tiki taka style and it’s hurting them. Real Madrid on the other hand have sport directors who understand that the game has changed, and therefore they would need a malleable team to keep up
