    A trick I learned many years ago, was before washing your jeans for the first time, turn them inside out and put them in the dryer for 45 minutes to an hour. I was told that this "bakes" the dye into the fabric and keeps them from fading quicker. All I know is that it seems to work for me.

    Hey man, I could really use some advice. I recently lost my right leg, above the knee amputation. I am saving up for a prosthetic. I don't want to hide it, as I think it's better for it to be showing, rather than having to explain a strange gait all the time. How would you recommend dressing for this? I know it's a strange question. I lost my leg, doesn't mean I want to lose my style too.

    I’m telling you, dark wash Goodfellow Blue Jeans (slim) from Target have been surprisingly the best jeans I’ve ever worn. Personally I feel they go well if I wanna dress up but keep it a little casual, and they have been super durable and haven’t really changed in color after rocking them for over a year. Keep in mind I only wear them a couple times a week if that, but still really solid all things considered. About $45 if I remember right, so IMHO very excellent for the price.

      There's 8 million selvedge denim vids, but if you're trying to figure out which ones are "worth" the price, then none of them will likely suit you because they usually cost way more than you're likely to spend. Would you consider Unbranded worth $100 or more if they have too low of a rise? Would you consider Levi's worth the price if they are rigid but not as heavy weight and don't have creative striped piping? [I don't know how many selvedge vids he's already done, but I suspect he has at least one...]

    • @Highland_Paddy
      @Highland_Paddy Před 3 měsíci +1

      Nice bolo ties can actually be considered formal wear, but then you would need a tuxedo shirt that doesn't have a typical bow tie wing collar. They won't work very well with t-shirts or polo shirts or the other stuff that these fashion guys tell you is acceptable semi-formal wear that actually is NOT acceptable semi-formal wear, but any short-sleeve Western shirt can still go with a bolo tie as long as you fix the top button same as long-sleeve, but typically most people would say wear them with long-sleeve shirts and a Western sport jacket or suit.

    When dressing for church or for going to an office I often wear dark jeans (blue or black) with roper boots polished to a high shine, a button down shirt, a sport coat, and a Stetson Open Road hat. So here’s the question, when dressing up cotton pants, including denim, should they pressed and creased or not? Personally, for a dressier setting, I prefer to wear pants that are pressed with a sharp crease. Others say no. I’m curious to know your thoughts.

    • @rediius
      @rediius Před 3 měsíci +1

      My denim jeans and chinos get the wrinkles pressed (ironed) out, but I don't put fore & aft creases into informal trousers. In fact I rarely bother even with my normal suits until I get to black tie. In my opinion, that's like wearing a necktie with a polo shirt - sure it can be done, and don't let anyone mandate your personal style, but risks coming off as a little too try-hard. Again, all my opinion, and you are free to disagree. I just had to stop and tip my own Stetson Open Road in Silverbelly back at you. Have a great day!

    • @Highland_Paddy

      @Highland_Paddy Před 2 měsíci

      No, EVERYONE does NOT know that denim is casual, apparently, or people wouldn't wear it to weddings and job interviews and such for decades now already. But if you're such a style master already, then how do you not know whether grey denim is TOO casual without asking a guy who gives meh advice a third of the time and then saying that they AREN'T too casual in YOUR opinion, anyway? Hint: Again, THEY ARE.

      @georgejones5019 Před 2 měsíci

      @Highland_Paddy Depending on the style. If it's low contrast with a matching or darker stitching, without fading or rips. You can make jeans, smart casual, or even business casual.

    • @Highland_Paddy
      @Highland_Paddy Před 2 měsíci

      @@georgejones5019 Yes, people wear all sorts of horrible clothing combinations now in professional settings and to weddings and such, but that doesn't make them correct just because nobody is pointing out why they're wrong in public and then vids like this supposedly reinforce their Fashion Status or something. Jeans don't have enough refined features and they are typically intentionally associated with Work Wear no matter how you slice it.

    Some Japanese denim is absolutely beautiful. It's made the way the fabric was first made and exhibits all the characteristics that first made the fabric so beloved.
    Unfortunately capitalism/the shareholder value movement has diminished the quality of denim for decades. Imagine what happens when all the major labels make slight economies every year for half a century in order to boost profits. You don't notice any difference from one year to the next but after literally decades of cost savings the fabric bears no resemblance to the original cloth. It's honestly just crap for the most part.
    All that said, very few denims can/should be matched with blazers etc or "dressed up". In all but a few very well executed cases it ends up looking tragic.

    Im a firm believer that unless you are in a construction office and will be out on a site. Denim has no place in an office or ever being dressed up.
    At points of my life i have been guilty of trying to over dress jeans and wish i hadn't.
    Chino's are a more comfortable, casual, "dressier" way to go. Keep the Denim/jeans for work wear.
    As a guy that has wore jeans my whole life, they are NOT comfortable, yet they serve a purpose.
    Ps. Stop rolling your jeans, again it was and is a sign you cant afford to buy the right size or get them tailored, not a fashion statement!!
    I agree with you about the dryer, all my clothing including "work" clothes are hung dry.
    Thanks for the video as always i enjoyed it!!

      @@Highland_Paddy of course im just grumpy and have never understood why people want to dress up and look like myself and others who beat the hell out of ourselves for work.
      But yet have pristine skin, perfect nails and hands that havent seen a physical labor. If some how i didnt notice any of the above the first handshake will tell all.
      Its painful to watch a boot review and hear them complain about speed hooks on the upper shaft because it takes a way form their style. Most boots are based from military or some kind of labour based job. Speed hooks are part of all that.
      Besides if they wear their pants properly no one would ever see the speed hooks. 🤷‍♂️
      The whole selvage denim craze hurts my head as well. It isnt comfortable, they are paying far to much for a pair of pants that ultimately suck!!
      Denim only looks good when its worked in and has fresh dirt & oil rubbed into it and you shouldn't be wearing that anywhere but while you are working. Pre-Riped, pre-stained or looking new is just wrong on so many levels 🤣
      Even a cheap pair of dress pants or Chino's feel a hell of a lot more comfortable. Not to mention look so much better when they actually fit you right.
      Like i said im grumpy and probably old before my time 🤣 in my late 40's. My opinion isnt worth much these days especially when it comes to fashion. I just hate paying over inflated prices for work clothing because people have decided its fashionable 🙄

      Im a journeyman tradesperson and never wore jeans at the job site. My daily uniform is dark denim, rolled up, laced dress boots, shirt, tie, blazer. Classic look and always complimented. FYI I work as a civilian in a police department. Retired police officer.

      Yes, but you need to explain that proper chinos don't have big, garish patch pockets and typically look even more dressed up with pleats, whereas unpleated chinos and jeans are less distinguishable to people who might think they are colored denim or something. I'm not sure what TEXTURE the jeans have, except that they may vary in weight and the dye job may have faded in the wash more dramatically?

    In my opinion, jeans are for high schoolers or younger. If doing outdoor work a pair or 2 is fine but wearing jeans in public as a man signals laziness and conformity. It takes the same effort to put on some slacks or trousers that look way better.

    *The opinion of Antonio here is terrible.*
    First, touting minstrels-no thanks. Actors are tantrum-tossing grown-ups who play make-believe. "Pretend I'm a pirate."
    Jeans are labor work pants. *A stylish man never wears jeans.*
    Jeans are not even quality casual clothing in the colors of blue, black, light blue, indigo.
    At best, one can wear these jeans casually: white and pastels, and summers only.
    Jeans say "I am still 14, in high school, in my mind."
    Antonio might as well push guys to wear Toughskins by Sears.

      @@johnp.johnson1541 Actually, there ARE various shades of khaki because better looking ones will be more a flat tan and then some other ones will have too much yellow. Dockers are usually better for consistent color than some competitors, and this is not counting "beige" or "oatmeal" or other natural shades.
      But then British Tan / Khaki, has more ochre in them so they are darker yellow but you won't typically find denim jeans in this color. I would still wear most of these with a sport jacket before dark jeans, though, because jeans will not have refined rear pockets with buttons and such things and usually have contrast stitching, etc.
