  • How to Replace an IR Sensor on your tv. My Tv is a Vizio E3D420VX, which is known to have problems with the remote and ir sensor going out. Here's an easy way to fix it, or replace it. Parts can be found on ebay or on www.shopjimmy.com

    Jimi, you rock. There's special place in heaven for those who take the time to show others how to diy on CZcams. I ordered a replacement IR sensor (001-LT24-2890-00R) for my Coby tv from eBay for $9.99. The repair quest continues... Update (7/9/16): The replacement IR sensor came in the mail. I followed Jimi's instructions and now my Coby works great!!!!

    I have the same Tv with the same problem. This video saved me some cash, all I did was clean the IR sensor and it worked normally again! Thank you!!

    Having done a pain-in-the-neck disassembly of a computer monitor recently, this video showed me how much easier it is to get into a Vizio TV. In a few minutes I had the back cover off. (Don't forget the 5 screws in and around the connectors, including a little one right between two of the RCA connectors.) Now I'm waiting for my replacement IR board from SearsPartsDIrect. Thanks for the video; it really helped!

    I watched your video, took the back off my Sony KDL 32L5000 and got the IR sensor circuit board out. I sent it to an amazing technical guy to repair in San Antonio, TX, and got it back today. I managed to get it back in and the TV put together again. It works perfectly! I'm SO, SO GRATEFUL to you! You made it look so manageable! In the past, I would have had to throw the TV out ....

    Thank you Jimi. I found out that an IR sensor was needed for my RCA tv. I found it on ebay for $4 and replaced it myself. I had the same problem with my Mom's Sylvania tv and I cleaned off the sensor first and it worked. CZcams is amazing.

    Dude! You just saved me about $300. That's how much a repairman from Vizio's referral service would charge me . I'm so grateful! After watching your video, I bought my replacement part from SearsPartsDirect (since shopjimmy didn't have it in stock), and I was able to swap it out myself. My 55" TV sure had a bunch of screws, but once they were out, changing the board took about 3 minutes. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for posting this video. DIY TV Repair is awesome!

      Thanks for the SearsPartsDirect.com tip. It saved me an hour of unsoldering and soldering that I would have had to do if I couldn't get the entire IR board and had to buy just the sensor.

    Thank you! Where have you been all my life? Mine went out several months ago, and a how-to video didn't exist at the time for this particular TV. I tried to open up the TV but it seemed stuck, even with, I'm assuming, all the screws removed, so I gave up. Then, I let procrastination run its course, and now here you are! I'll give it another whirl.

    Thanks Jim, I've been searching for some time. I'm a diy person and didn't want to throughout this TV and buy another one. Seems basic enough. Shop Jimmy didn't have my part. They do have a mother board and EPROM. I found one on eBay. Hopefully that will work. Thank you for the video. Hopefully this video will open up many to repair my own tv's.

    I can't find IR sensor Vizio 3642-0132-0189 anywhere. Every site lists it as out of stock. Any suggestions or links? My IR sensor is working, but in an intermittent fashion. I tap on the area where the ir sensor is located and it works. But later fails, then i have to tap it again. I wonder why?

    What if I chipped the sensor area on my tv when moving it, on the front, & now it won’t respond to my remote? & yes the remote is working, I can turn the tv on with the button on the side of the tv also… is that still an issue with the sensor on the inside of the tv?

    ty nice video.. i have an emerson that had water spilled down the front of it. its seems its going to be a pain to fix. it has a 9 pin flat cable to the sensor ( the flat blue and white kind, like the ones coming from the mother board. ) . i hope i can find a replacement and the right parts. Is there any way to manually start the TV? and/or use a different sensor or device? if its a 9 pin cord, was thinking that i could rig something up or find a different part.

      I would call shopjimmy.com here's a link. those guys are very helpful. www.shopjimmy.com/ if it's broken tho, you lose nothing by opening it up and dinking around with it.

    • @jwilham
      @jwilham Před 9 lety

      Jimi Nguyen yea... i actually found the part i needed. turns out the sensor for most of these TV's are a standard Philips IR sensor. So i used that which is a 9 pin. Got it up and working again.

    I have this problem with my Samsung DVD player. I've tested the remote and believe the remote is fine. Could static electricity burn out the I/R sensor on the player? Recently when I touched the player, a static electricity discharge caused the picture on the TV to go black for a moment, then return to normal. Since then, the remote doesn't work. Checking with cell phone camera confirms it is sending a signal, but I changed the batteries anyway. I've tried reprogramming it by pressing all the buttons repeatedly several times, no luck. Is there something else I can try? Should I just replace the DVD player? Thanks!

    I have a 2012 RCA 42' Led. Everything works great except it often does not turn on. I can cut off power cord and reconnect juice causing the sensor light to come on. Then hit power on remote with the sensor light going off and the set turning on. Many times when hitting remote power the sensor light just goes off and the set does not come on. Have to disconnect power cord and reconnect to get light on again. My Vizio remote will also operate this RCA. So it is not the remote as I have tried both. I think it may be a loose sensor connection or sensor needs cleaning. The strange thing is that once the remote turns the set on it plays great for as long as it is not turned off. The remote works as it should. But once I turn off the set it may turn back on with the remote or it may not. I found disconnecting power, sometimes waiting a few minutes after disconnect seems to sometimes results in the set coming on with remote power. I don't see any manual power switch on this set. Any one know what causes this?
