    I also learned today by fooling around how to record 4KU 4KHQ & FHD on the ninja..
    If you wish to record 4k or FHD, please choose ProRes as your codec on the Atomos and set your camera to output a standard video signal (not RAW).
    This would be a very good video lesson if you could go over this. It was a struggle to figure this out for me
    Some people only know how to record 5K and 8K on the atomos Ninja Plus not knowing they can record full HD 4KU as well.
    Great video.

      It's a great trick to know, that's why I made sure to split up the sections in my video between RAW and Non-RAW options. ProRes is a great codec. I think the more people become aware of this, the more it will help them expand their R5. Thanks for the comment and have a great day!

    • @DeafDirector
      @DeafDirector  Před rokem +1

      I don't have your camera, so I can't be 100% sure, but this usually is the result of an HDMI cable dying on you. Try switching HDMI cable first. If that doesn't work see if you can isolate which HDMI port could be compromised. Run a cable from you camera to a different HDMI device (even a TV can work). If you get a signal you know the camera HDMI port is safe. And also try the same thing into the Atomos.
      The other option would be to make sure you are exporting a lower res HDMI signal from the camera. Good luck

    I'm a Ninja V+ and R5 owner. Always excellent tips on your channel. I didn't realize you could simultaneously record on R5 and Ninja V+. So your tip allows you to both simultaneously record on both devices and initiate the recording by pressing one button on the R5. Is that correct?

    • @DeafDirector
      @DeafDirector  Před 2 lety

      That's right, Brent. This basically treats the V+ like an integrated part of the R5, so once you hit record on the R5, the V+ automatically starts recording too. Thanks for the comment and have a great day!

      I'm pretty new to video n have the r6 and am considering getting a ninja v as it is on sale. My main reason for wanting to record externally was encountering overheating when shooting in 4k. Wouldn't recording to both internal SD card and the ninja v just make the overheating issue worse for me? I thought one of the main benefits of getting an external recorder was to bypass this issue. I do not plan to shoot raw so does this mean I cannot record to ninja v only?? Sorry I'm a lil confused

    • @DeafDirector
      @DeafDirector  Před 2 lety +1

      Any time you do internal recording in the danger zones (8K, 4kHQ, 4K/120) you run the risk of overheating. I have achieved unlimited recording times with an external recorder, but never with internal. That being said, if you are not shooting RAW, cutting on Standby: Low Res and shooting simultaneously will greatly increase your time before overheating. Thanks for the comment and have a great day.

    Was searching for ways to trigger recording using the physical button for the longest time and this just pops up! :) Hm so there's no way to trigger 4k 60fps or other codecs WITHOUT having to record both to SD card and Atomos? If the SD card has to record, that'll make the camera overheat defeating the good use of the external recorder... :(

      This really plays a huge role on commercial or film settings. I have had cards fail in the past, which if I did not have a backup recording, would have cost tens of thousands of dollars to replicate what we shot. Painful experience has taught me that it's not a question of "if" a card will fail you some day, but "when.

    • @DeafDirector
      @DeafDirector  Před rokem

      Hey LJ, I do not use the Ninja as only an overheat and monitoring solution. The biggest reason to do this is in order to create safety backups of all the files in the field in real time. I do a lot of commercial work for higher end clients and some of them demand ProRes deliverables. This allows me to have backup recordings of everything, and not risk losing tens of thousands of dollars worth of footage if a drive or card goes bad, which (if you shoot long enough) is guaranteed to happen at some point. I also sometimes use the Ninja on my RED Komodo for the same reason, so I always have double backups of everything. Have a great day!

    Fake news! you can not record simultaneously on the sd card and on the ninja V with the r6. You can, but as soon as you hit record it will display the red record sign on the ninja v display. If you try to enable the camera + display setting in the r6 menu it will say "Device connected via hdmi is used instead of camera for menu display and image playback". It works only on r5. It is not working with canon r6 mark ii either, just tried.
