    Since this video was produced, Atomos dropped the Ninja V+ price from $1499 USD to $999 USD. We think this makes it far easier to justify paying the premium for the Ninja V+.

    DP, no matter what color space I choose on my canon r5 when I'm outputting HDMI 8k raw whether it's bt709 bt2020 or Cinemagamut, it automatically outputs clog2 Cinemagamut into my atomos v+ and camera output menu is greyed out completely on the atomos. Now this is normally not a problem if I am using premiere to edit because I can just select Cinema Gamut/C-Log2 in the effects control and my footage looks log again and I can instantly add a technical Lut to start color correction. On Lumafusion on my m1 iPad, there is no such colorspace option so I the colors are not even usable. Is their an iPad app that will allow me to convert the colorspace first? I really don't want to use my laptop. It kills my work flow and I travel a lot and definitely will slow me down. I know this is a Lumafusion problem but do you have any connections with them so they can update their colorspace options?

    Hey guys, I need your help. This is kind of a big deal to me because I am really trying to streamline my workflow for video production. So here it goes. I recently picked up the new Atomos V+ for my Canon R5. I have had the R5 for about a year and love it. I have not been using it to its full potential because cRAW is difficult to edit and requires a lot of time and processing power to transcode it to prores. I really love using LumaFusion on my M1 iPad Pro and now I am able to scrub through 8k All-i footage without proxies. So then I wanted to record 8k raw to have the best quality out of the camera. Prior to buying the Atomos I would have to transfer the CRM files to my gaming laptop with a RTX 3070 then I would have to convert each clip in Premiere Pro to Prores 422 which would take a while. I would then have to copy those back to my iPad Pro and edit them in LumaFusion. Now, I know you are going to ask me why I don’t edit on the laptop, but I am much faster and much more comfortable using my ipad to edit video. I enjoy the ergonomics so much. So I bought the Atomos V+ so I can output 8k raw to it and record 8k prores HQ right into the Atomos. I would then slide out the 1TB ssd and connect it to my iPad Pro and LumaFusion can playback the file without issue. NOW HERE IS MY PROBLEM. “COLORSPACE”. No matter what option I have tried in LumaFusion, the colorspace is way off and not usable. If I playback the footage in LumaFusion before I drop the clip into my timeline, it looks fine. As soon as I put it in the timeline, colorspace becomes an issue. The closest one that is somewhat recognizable is Wide Gamut HDR - HDR10 (PQ). All others look like static or noise. Can someone please help? I really do not know what to do. There is no better software than LumaFusion for video editing on the iPad and this is the entire reason I bought the Atomos otherwise I would have just stuck with the Canon internal 8k raw recording, but then I would have to lug a laptop around to transcode the canon files to apple prores then copy back to my ipad. Sorry for the long comment. Please help if you can, thank you.

      @arfmf Před 2 lety

      actually that's exactly the kind of thing RAW enables by recording well... RAW data BEFORE it is processed by the sensor and burnt in with a set ISO and WB value. In other words you're recording light information and by informing the raw software later from which camera it came it can perform what the camera would have done at the time of shooting and you can fiddle with those settings. The huge file sizes are a consequence of storing so much more data.

When both are enabled, he was getting 53min by recording to the old Ninja V with the ability to use fully the back screen. For that the old ninja is good enough. Also you can record 5k RAW 30fps to the old one in Crop mode, while the V+ can do it in 60fps. You will get the maximum data that your camera will allow your sensor to put out through HDMI. For instance, my Panasonic S1H allows me to go from 10 bit to 12 bit as the HDMI allows me to get all of the raw data from the sensor. However, the blackmagic pocket cinema camera even though it has 12 bit color and shoots at 6K, the HDMI itself only out puts 1080P, so buying an external recorder would be useless for it and a monitor would be all the HDMI output would be good for. So it really just depends on what your camera allows the HDMI to output.

      @oliverflint8173 Před 2 lety

      Not if you have an external mic with some method of distancing the mic from the camera, e.g. with Smallrig attaching systems. Also you don't want an omnidirectional mic (the in-camera mic is usually pretty omnidirectional). You need a mic that excludes or reduces sound from the rear sides. Notice too that Jordan is not recording ambient sound. He is not speaking into the camera microphone. He is using a concealed mic. like the Rode wireless Go system so his microphone is several feet from the camera. I think he uses the receiver to record directly into the camera, but camera Preamps are not as good as those provided by dedicated recorders like those manufactured by MixPre or Zooom. For the kind of blog recording that Jordan does you can improve the sound quality by using a recorder that is completely separate from the camera. For example, Zoom now sells the Zoom II, a credit card sized device that records in 32-bit float so you don't have to mess with controls when recording. Even though you are making a separate recording with an external recorder it is remarkably easy to sync up the sound with the video from your camera in post.

    I am confused after being a professional cinematographer for over 30 years. How can you output an 8k signal from the Canon R5 HDMI externally when the camera can only do 4k max thru the HDMI. Additionally, the HDMI port does NOT support 8k transport. This is a hardware issue that can not be corrected with firmware. The ONLY mirrorless camera that has 8k HDMI transport capabilities is the Fujifilm X-H2.

  • @redbeardproductions-kevind9806

    You can also shoot 5K in super 35 mode with the R5 and original Ninja V now, with the correct firmware.

    I really like atomos products and their update politics. But propres raw monopoly for FCPX is a real pain in the ass( Windows can open it in premiere but without metadata) . If camera manufacturers will continue adding BRAW support and Apple won’t stop being greedy jerks, I’ll switch to Blackmagic video assist.
