    I love the hole saw one. On the 45 degree angle fittings calculation, I would have liked to see an example, as "subtract the two fittings" isn't clear although I think I can guess what you meant.

    Amazing tricks for home owners, common knowledge among plumbers. I dont use the pen method, just use my finger near the wall, by the time you get the teflon on the pen, I be done putting on teflon on 3 MIPs. I use 1.414 because I like to be more exact and I usually cut the pipe out of the fitting because I usually have more pipe than fittings.

    • @eblizzard2842
      @eblizzard2842 Před 6 lety +2

      Yes, 1.414. I'm surprised anyone would consider a simple cut length between 2 45s a "trick". That's pipefitting basic shit. If someone's having trouble knowing how to find a cut length between 45s, what happens when they have to figure out a rolling offset? Their head might explode.

    can you clarify the formula to calculate pipe length for the the 45' angel offset? please provide with an example thanks a lot

    • @Got2Learn
      @Got2Learn  Před 7 lety +5

      ilex Wang Sure, let's say you have 20" between both pipes and you need to joint them togheter with two 45's, do 20" x 1.4 = 28".
      28" is from center to center of both pipes BUT at a 45 degree angle.
      Now, you have to take into consideration your fittings so, seeing you need the REAL lenght of your 45 degree angle pipe, you need to deduct both of the fittings while keeping the penetration of the pipe.
      All you have left to do is calculate from the center of the fitting to the closest portion of the hub (will vary from fitting to fitting, normally a small number like 1/2") and subtract this number 2 times (seeing you have 2 fittings) to the original measurment which was 28.
      Here is the final equation:
      20" x 1.4 = 28" ---)
      28" - 1/2 (2x) which is ---)
      28" - 1" = 27"
      27" (----- final measurment.
      Hope this helps, feel free to tell me any portion that isn't clear ;)

    • @Got2Learn
      @Got2Learn  Před 7 lety

    • @Got2Learn
      @Got2Learn  Před 7 lety

      Ok, the mistake you made was to add 2x the penetration of the fitting. You must remove from the center of the fitting to the closest edge of the hub on both fittings for it to work, try it that out, hope this help, if it doesn't work, message me back ;)

    Teflon on pen trick is excellent, thanks for that./
    45 degree offset is easier if you put the 2 45s ON the pipes ( connect them with a very small piece of pipe that you can easily remove after ) then measure the Centre of the pip to the centre of the offset 45's, now x 1.414 and add the 2 Hubs ( in the case of a 3: pipe you would need a 3" addition )
    ..sounds tricky, but if you get what im saying it makes the math very obvious.

      I don't see how this method is any easier, nor do I see how it makes any sense. If your stack is coming up through a floor and you need to use a 45 offset to get it through a hole that is 5 feet away a short piece of pipe isn't going to work for you. If you shoot a laser at where the hole in the ceiling above is and measure c of stack to c of hole x 1.414 - Fitting allowance you will get a perfect measurement every time (as long as your math is correct).

      ABS pipe needs "Solvent Weld" adhesive. The stuff you were using looked like contact adhesive. This is the stuff you need www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-sc250-solvent-cement-250ml/14295. It actually melts the surface of the plastic and bonds the to plastic pipes together.

    Good steps, but watch the measurements, the 1" copper 45 has an allowance of 3/8" not 1/2" . you should always have manufacturer spec and tape measure the fitting on site as well to compare

    already knew all of those but I don't see the point of cutting the fitting off like that. Generally you want to salvage the fitting, not the piece of pipe. Salvaging the fitting can be achieved by cutting it off flush and cutting a notch on the pipe stuck inside the hub. Then put the fitting in a chain vise and with a hammer and slot screwdriver you can chip out the notch. Once the small notched piece is removed you can easily chisel around the remaining portion of the pipe and it should pop out of the fitting relatively easily if it hasn't been sitting too long.
