Behringer Model D #02 - Eurorack Case Installation

  • In the second video (not the jam videos, I numbered / titled those separately) on the Behringer Model D we look at installing the module into a euro rack case. I did plan on covering this later in the series but as I wanted it in the modular for ease of control/modulation/use in my set up and also to have it next to the Mordax DATA oscilloscope here we go. You remove 8 screws, lift up the panel and then remove two cables/connectors and then add the euro rack ribbon power cable to the module, plug that into your euro rack bus board, screw the module onto the rails and you're off. Simple!

      Hi Sidney, it seems a really simple thing to people already into Eurorack and similar gear but I figured this would be a lot of peoples first experience moving modules and these types of things around. Glad it was helpful for you.

  • @philippendletonmusic
    @philippendletonmusic Před 3 lety +1

    Absolutely love that Behringer made the connections idiot proof i.e they only work one way. Same for their modules. Why other companies don't do the same is mystifying. Eliminates the risk of fried modules.

    Speaking from experience, you should never rely on a manufacturer's orientation of the header box on the board. Sometimes they install the key the wrong way. Without fault protection, you're going to loose a module if the voltage is wrong. Always look at where your pin stripe is.

Glad now I didn't fork out for a Voyager rme with interface boxes, which would've been much bigger & cost a fortune, assuming I could find one! Plan to put in my eurorack setup.

    Hi, thanks for all your Videos! One question: it is not possible to use the filter itself for other oscillators in the system right?
    cheers

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Před 5 lety

      Hi Stani,
      you can use the external input and turn down the internal oscillators to use the filter with an external source. However that means you loose the ability to use the internal oscillators at the same time and it also means you need to go through the filter and the VCA before hitting the output on the unit.

    • @sidneybarrett8941
      @sidneybarrett8941 Před 2 lety

      Yes, you can patch your other oscillators into the "external input" and mix them in through the dedicated attenuator in the "mixer" section. You can still use the Model D oscillators and noise, but they'll all share the filter/envelope settings. Or, you can get a Behringer System 55 Module 904A filter module and add that to your rack for the classic Moog filter sound.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Před rokem

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Hello, it could be but there's no Eurorack style power in there. As it doesn't use the 16 or 10 pin euro power cable for it's own power supply. It might be possible to break it out somehow. I'd be interested if anyone had a solution.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Před 5 lety

      I've had it in a Doepfer case with no issues and also a case with Meanwell power supplies with no issues. I don't have a way to measure it. You want to stay below 100% of the power supply so you're not starting to strain anything. However ... best option would be to just keep it out of the rack. Second option use the external power supply and just leave a small gap at the side of the unit to take the power cable into the case.

      @@DivKid on my Model D there is a long 2 wire, red and black wire that is attached inside the box to the board that is the back panel.
      I ended up (last night) fabricating an aluminum panel so that I could use the back panel board in my Eurorack. I figured since it's 1000mA, which takes up most of a Row Power 30, I might as well use the wall wart from the Model D, and still retain the midi switches and the 1/4 in outs that it came with.
      With a piece of aluminum, a belt/wheel sander, and an 80 year old drill press I made the plate in about 2 hours..
      I mounted it to the left of my Model D, right below the Raw Power 30 that powers the rest of the rack.
      If I had a much larger power supply in this case I might not have done this, but using most of a Row Power and having to buy another one mainly for just this, it would have added ~$100 to the rack for no reason.
