  • As we've just got the Behringer Model D into the eurorack case it seemed to make sense to sequence it, modulate it and patch it with the rest of the modular for a little jam. I run down all the patching, sequencing, mixing, modulation, audio rate modulating the filter for vocal/formant like overtones, mixing oscillators, FX, mixing in drums, influencing drum rhythms with the Model D LFO and plenty more! Fire away with any questions and subscribe to stay tuned lots more to come.

    That move using a sequenced Tides into the filter is awesome. Brings a whole different level of sound to it.

    They should give you one of those "Master Class" video gigs. This was a great breakdown of integrating the D into your modular rig. Well done!

    With the pro 2 the same thing is possible, and you can even route it to the pro2s external input and ad dist, envelopes, two filters lfos, decimate and the pro 2s dcos. Its fantastic. You can store everything and that makes the model d quite live-usable. 🙌🏻 i love the model d. It adds the vcos to the pro 2. now it sounds like a cem or/and a pro 1 on steroids 😆

      cross patching modulation and audio between synths is a firm favourite. Nice way to work and expand things.

    Great video series on this unit your doing here. I just got my BM-D today and the sound is so amazing! Debating if I want to start a Eurorack or not since I also have the 0 coast. Not too sure I want to enter that rabbit hole.

      Depends on what you do. I built up 12 u x 84 hp, and realized I more enjoy tonal analog music, and having so many modules wasn’t necessary. I kept a few synth voice modules, a little collection of utility modules and LFOs, mixed in with some desktop semi-modular stuff (TomO SEM pro, Dreadbox Erebus), and its STILL an insane modular sonic playground.
      If you find you dig the more esoteric stuff, then you may dig having rows and rows of stuff....it just wasn’t needed for what I do.
      My Boog arrives later this week.

    • @yodhanhunter
      @yodhanhunter Před 5 lety

      I have both this and a Neutron as a base for my modular. I do mainly melodic music. I mess with random stuff a bit, but I am building my modular to be a wall of voices that I can modify and swap parts in and out of.

    Awesome video, as always! Did you ever get the official confirmed mA-values from Behringer for this?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Před 6 lety

      I haven't spoken to them but it's in the manual at 7 watts. if that's just DC +12V then that's 583mA of current.

    Is the Behringer Model D's output on the main outs "yellow" cable in this video -- is it modular level or line level?

  • @GatorBait_Studio

    Dude. I am so inspired right now.. its like a jackhammer on my brainmatter ( listening on JBL-LSR308s on proper stands) berry punchy I could hear some static and artifacts on the panned left chanel (my right speaker?) You may have explained this what is the Module provider the oscilloscope to the left of the Model D?

    • @DivKid

      no CV pitch out, but the 1v/oct input on the oscillator section is the pitch input.

      That's cool, cheers! I've had a Neutron for a while and worked on a few things with testing and some ideas with them. I haven't made proper videos but I did have some teaser videos from my time testing the unit - czcams.com/video/_mc4-azFUsQ/video.html

    Thanks for the vid. Really inspiring! Wanna get this but I'm quite new to synthesis and wondered if any of the parameters are controllable over midi cc? For instance using a digitakt to control the fm on the filter? Thanks

    • @DivKid

      it's not MIDI CC controllable I'm afraid.

    Neutron gives better modular integration with all the patch points but in terms of sound, would you say the Model-D sounds better that Neutron? asking because you played both

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Před 6 lety

      "better" is extremely difficult to quantify with a definitive answer. "different" is the answer. VCOs, filter, VCA/drive paths etc.

  • @dan_dorjay
    @dan_dorjay Před 6 lety +1

    Quick question - you say you are using a velocity output to control the pitch of tides. Is that the same gate you are sending to the filter envelope or something else?
    If it's a gate I'm struggling to understand how it's modulating tides. If it's something else then I missed that in your explanation... :)

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Dan, it's not a gate. Velocity is stepped as it's a held value "per note" not variable like say aftertouch. So it's another stepped sequence but unquantised and derived from the main sequence which is from Tuesday from TiNRS (this is not rocket science). Tuesday (the module) has note (pitch), gate (note on and off), accent (another gate) and velocity (another stepped sequence perfect for modulation).

      DivKidVideo brilliant, thanks for the clarification. I tried to recreate something similar last night (admittedly with different and more limited kit). End result - rubbish! Back to the drawing board for me lol. You have some skills there Ben :)

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Před 6 lety

      I was yeah. Well, after hearing the DeepMind 12 develop and then having one I guess I'm not surprised. I think it's really interesting to see where Behringer, the MIDAS team and synths go in terms of future products. Neutron is great and I'd love to see a dirty raw analog poly.

  • @EliahHoliday
    @EliahHoliday Před 6 lety +1

    I'm looking at picking up 1 or 2 modules to add to the Behringer Model D, what do you think would be the best investment if you could only choose 1 or 2 modules? I was thinking of going with 1 or 2 Disting MK4.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Před 6 lety +1

      What do you want to "expand" and why just one or two modules? The case will cost nearly the price of a module. There's lots of ways to expand all with differing interfaces. A Disting will give you lots of options but is small and means changing it's behaviour to suit what you want. You may just want a dedicated FX module, oscillator, different filter. So what are you wanting to expand with? That's the first thing to think about.

    • @EliahHoliday
      @EliahHoliday Před 6 lety +1

      Well I have a Make Noise Skiff and a beringer model D on order and I already have a ES-40 + ESX-8MD modules. I think that gives me 18hp left. So I was thinking of adding a couple of modules to compliment. So I was looking at the Disting MK4 or something else.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Před 6 lety

      But what do you want to expand with in terms of function? Not in terms of modules specifically. Is it modulation, another sound source, an FX unit, processor etc? Distings are great multi-function tools if you're not sure.

    • @EliahHoliday
      @EliahHoliday Před 6 lety +1

      DivKidVideo Hi, yeah I guess I don't really know. Basically making the Behringer Model D into an even more feature rich synth. So I suppose modulation first. Also I suppose I could also try a different filter like the 4075. FX would be last choice unless something was really good and inexpensive. I just realized a Korg SQ-1 would be a good cheap option. I did like your modulation additions.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Před 6 lety

      Well there's not much to modulate but a sequencer for the filter CV in and another oscillator would be useful for mixing into the external input and/or for filter modulation too. A Korg SQ-1 is a great but, so cheap and useful.

    i want to buy a moslab filter as i really like the sound - i am a bit
    strapped for cash so cant afford a full moslab system - can i somehow
    plug my behringer model D into a moslab filter and use the boogs osc and amp ? thanks to anyone who can help

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Před 6 lety

      you can't take the oscillator out then into the filter. You'd need the mixer VCO levels up full for the mix out to work but then the external input (after going from mix out to the Moslab) would mix with the VCOs again before hitting the filter.

    • @pascalmestdagh5074
      @pascalmestdagh5074 Před 6 lety

      Hi,
      Output levels on my model D seem to be a bit below the usual eurorack levels (-5 to 5V or even -10 to 10V).
      More around -1 to 1V output on my device.
