I have a G35X awd and I found that it was easier for me to remove and install the alternator from the top, instead from underneath. It actually was an easier job than I anticipated thankfully. I just had to remove the entire fan assembly. Which is only held on by 2 10mm bolts, then just unclip the connectors. I then had to remove the upper radiator hose, in order to get the fan assembly out. I just used a clean pan to catch the coolant. An easy way for me to do this was to squeeze the coolant by the hose and catch it as it came out the reservoir outlet. I just emptied out maybe 4 cups of coolant and then tucked the upper radiator hose out of the way to remove the fans. Then unscrew to tensioner screw thats underneath the tensioner pulley. Once you have it loosened all of the way, you can then slip the belt off easily. The bolt holding the pulley on is a 14mm. Remove the pulley, then you can remove the alternator. The top long bolt is a 14mm and the bottom one is a 12mm. It took a little bit of maneuvering but it came right out from the top. I did not transfer the bracket that was bolted to the back of the alternator I removed. I really saw no purpose for it, other than helping keep the alternator more secured. Since I have an awd X model the front diff is really close to the alternator itself. It just made it harder to reinstall. I also went ahead and added an extra ground to the alternator casing. Since I had an extra spot on the grounding block I have as a part of the grounding kit that was already installed. Its not necessary, but it also wouldnt hurt. I was initially going to install another hot wire from the alternator to positive battery terminal as the big 3 mod says to do. But it really isnt necessary unless you have over a 1000 watt amp for a heavy duty sound system. Even then you can just use a capacitor for that instead of the big 3 mod. Adding a ground though doesnt hurt anything. Overall it was a really easy job, I had no issues whatsoever going about it from the top. Im just commenting to let ppl know that it is very possible to do it this way, instead of from the bottom. Either way works as long as you get the alternator replaced. I just like to do the least amount of effort possible. Besides I really had no iption but to remove it from the top. As the alternator wouldnt clear from the bottom because the oil cooler and filter were in the way. They are positioned in front of the block for all VQs in a X model. Even if I removed the oil filter the oil cooler itself was in the way. You would have to completely remove the sway bar, oil cooler and oil filter. I just found that it was much easier tackling it from the top instead.
i loosen those 2 lower 12 mm bolts i dont remove the one holding it in, because once you remove the top on it’ll fall on your face… loosen them, remove top bolt, then support slt by hand and pull out the 12mm
What lbs of torque is your electric ratchet? I can't get mines of to save my life. And can you PLEASE go a little more in detail on how you got the belt off. You were a little vague on that. This my first swap on my alternator.

Hey I have a question , so I replaced the alternator but as soon as removed the connector it literally disintegrated so I bought a new connector BUT since it broke before I could see the order of the cables and I searched online but it didn’t say or show anything about what order they go in . The connectors they seek for replacement all have black 3 wires instead of being color coded.
Dude this awesome I’m going to be attempting this on my 04 G35. It’s the first component I will be replacing on my g apart from the exhaust few years ago. Love this car. Do you know if the process is close to what I will be facing on the 04 model?
Hi I have a 2004 infinity g35. I started to hear a rattling sound every time I turned my car on. Then I drove off to get groceries and a plastic bag that I went over got stuck in my alternator/ serpentine belt. My car went out a few minutes after. It will crank and start but then will die out. Can it be my alternator?
do you know the symptoms of a bad alternator in a G-35? My daughter got a brand new battery because her car just quit on the highway. It ran for 1 day and broke down again, same thing as before. All the dashboard lights come on, radio works, new battery....won't start. Dealership said it's the alternator now (after they just told me it was the battery 2 days ago and replaced that). For an alternator, will it just not start and make a clicking sound when turning the key? Thanks for the video.
Turns out it was the alternator. They replaced the alternator once with an after-market....the lights came on when I drove it away from the dealership. I pulled right back in. They replaced that alternator with another after-market alternator. It's been fine now...been 2 weeks since they did it and no lights come on now and it runs well.
@@uglyhp8225 yeah right I called and got a quote jus last week for just a replacement alternator and he said around 600+ so a high output shit could be atleast 600-800$ depending on the year and where you are and what shop does it.
shops normally charge what the factory time calls for to do the job this is where the big debate happens because of years of experience and thousands of dollars in equipment and tools invested to take lets say a 2 hr job and do it in 30 min if you forced shops to charge you only the time spent they would just but 1 ratchet set and work on the ground and turn a 2 hr job into a 6 hr job
Hi I have a question. I'm working on a fx35 which is the same engine. Someone worked on it before and didnt connect the positive battery cable to the alternator, I connected the cable back on the alternator but the cable still has another terminal at the end which I can't figure where it goes, do you know where the end of the positive battery cable suppose to go?
well i really dont have a specific brand of alternators because we have a shop in the town i live in if i need a alternator to put out more amps then it came with i drop it off to them and they rebuild it to what i need theres still alot of alternator shops out there like that
in what order does the alternator plug wires go, mine came out of the grey connector so now I just have 3 loose wires and I am not sure in what order do they plug back in?
@@ouiken no i mean 1.2 shop labor is broken up into 6 min intervals so 0.1 is 6 min 1.0 is a hour the time that mechanics are paid on that job is a hr and 12 minutes
You never fucking mentioned the connector on the top of the alternator. How do you get that shit off. There's a 12mm bolt on the back and another connector on top you never showed taking off in this vid. All you did was take off that back bracket and POP! it came right out.
