  • With my nose suffering from seasonal allergies, I am sharing in today's video some tips and techniques I have acquired and found incredibly useful when it comes to measuring and drawing objects/figures in perspective. You can also see how I approach shading of larger surfaces using loose, relaxed crosshatching.

    Your technique using hatching with that tiny nib , is a revelation to me!! I never liked drawing with ink, however, after this, if I find such a nib, I'll love to give it a try! It looks so awesome!!! Thanks for sgaring!!

      I’m so happy to hear! Usually Zebra nibs and nib holders are available on Amazon, otherwise Leonardt nibs are very good as well and more readily available. Go for it!🔥

      My little experience with Bic pens, is that ink makes you draw better, because you can't afford a mistake,as you do with pencils! I bet it also improves ones drawing skills faster, than pencil does! Thank you very much, may you have the most beautiful Christmas!!@@classicalodyssey

      @@greekveteran2715 It's true about BIC, I also love to draw with them as they are closer to a pencil. Indeed, ink helps you improve very fast- if you master it I really believe everything else will not pose any problems at all. Thank you for the very kind wishes! May you have a very blessed Christmas as well!

    I have never even held a dipp pen in my hand. I’m a bit fascinated by it. Do you have a advice if I want to try it? What do I look for? I understood it’s different handles and points.
    I also wonder if I rather should get a ruling pen for trying masking fluid with my watercolour painting. I’m not sure if I want to use ink more than maybe just try it once. I think I understood you can use watercolour paint on both a ruling pen and a dipp pen.

    I just found you out and subscribed there and then. Love your style drawings and teachings. 👌🏻
    I’m starting to fountain pen ink draw/sketch and I can definitely learn from you.
    By the way, what preferred paper do you use for ink drawing?

    • @classicalodyssey
      @classicalodyssey  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you for watching! Fountain pen sketching is a great way to practice more "calligraphic" drawing! I really don't have a preferred paper, I do usually by from Canson either mixed media paper or Bristol paper (that one is made for ink illustrations and is super smooth). Most brands usually mention when they are compatible with pen and ink. Hope this is helpful!

    Hi there - I thoroughly admire your drawing and tonal skills. In the UK the light is not so contrasted and so your shadow is - for me- a little overworked but I understand why you project that contrast. Thank you for a very inspirational video.
    Every good wish to you and once again, thank you.

    The first 5 minutes were very interesting and promising. After that .... timelapse had ruined everything. Aesthetically it was horrible and did not teach anything either.

    • @classicalodyssey
      @classicalodyssey  Před měsícem

      Well, most of the important explanations are on the construction phase (which is technically more important for the overall composition) and are presented in the beginning. For the brevity of the video, it had to be sped up because it is merely hatch lines that add tone- I explained the hatching in several other videos.
      What aesthetic improvements would you suggest to make the composition more appealing?

    • @serge8397
      @serge8397 Před měsícem

      @@classicalodyssey : Your composition is just fine and I like it. But speeding up natural hand movements in my opinion is extremely ugly . It's painful to watch St. Vitus dance with its involuntary jerking movements. And if everything after construction phase is not so important why to torture your audience with it? Just skip it and show the final result.

      @@serge8397 time lapse videos have their value and I personally find them very useful, a lot of people do too. Even when you read some articles you skip through some paragraphs and extract what is valuable. From the multitude of videos, there is enough complementarity available, I only post what I wished to have learned myself earlier on and I couldn't find it. I think you are probably looking for something else that is not in the nature of my channel- art courses online for example (such as New Masters Academy) would offer you comprehensive information and guidance, which is probably what you are looking for
