46:00 Find abstract art is everywhere, trending for generations. And I see beginners start with that and consider themselves as full-grown artist. Do we live in "fake it till you make it" times? ...not that for some, abstract art can be the best start and even what they grow into. (The best musicians I learn to know tho', was skilled in more than just their thing.) I'm worried about a society that forget the fact that trends (pop-culture) is only part of what's happening. Society has tried to deal with this since way back ...fx look at classical music. It is given status and priority, still we don't give modern composers much room for it. We as society want to keep it intact and give it a lot of space, yet not let it have seeds. Not sure if it is the same with visual artist as with musicians. It feels weird because to me it seems like musicians does not know how strong sound fellow musicians has. Rather focus on status and recommend each other to "do the right thing" so "you become good." Hope in painting/drawings fellow artist can acknowledge when someone has skill whatever they do abstract/classic/cartoon or so.

It's true, no one ca be very good in a particular field if that is the only thing they are focused on- you can't live and develop in isolation. The fake it till you make it philosophy might work for some- being determined and having faith can truly make you good at what you are pursuing, but if not, nothing can last if it is not rooted in some solid foundation. Abstract art, the way we present it has always been around. Thank you very much for watching, Martin!

@@ruxandraionce3556 I seen so much faking and so pressure for musicians to "do the right thing" to follow a trend that has some high level aspects of course (jet "forgotten" others.) When a musician try to use good skills that is not trending, then that_someone is canceled ...and not accepted. This is what I find troublesome. The cancel-culture. I honestly don't get it, ...because no one will be very good at all the aspects. We need the variation, not to loose important skills held in society. And not all skills comes from school. More kids that grownups have dared to say I'm good at playing. But because I do something different I'm not even given a chance. And even often people with very weak skills in music want to show me how it's done. I do not get that, it's embarrassing. In fact I noticed it's mostly the losers in society that dear to tell me their appreciation for me playing. I find it very nice to hear Glenn Vilppu's story. Sounds like he was able to do it his way.

Just as the words of the painter Apelles: "Nulla dies sine linea" (No day without a line) translated into fact probably gave him the conviction that he had reached artistic maturity, so that he could say to the cobbler: "no higher than the boot!", I think that in the case of Mr. Glenn Vilppu, the hundreds of sketchbooks allowed him to abandon his studies 6 months before graduation! I think this shows that the ideas we strongly believe in also give us the strength and firmness to be able to translate them into life!

You managed to evoke very interesting ideas! Any joy, I believe, of each of us, must first be "learned and then toiled", and if one succeeds in finding in the creative effort of another a reason for meditation or exaltation, it is because he directed his attention - with patience and the passion of a more refined curiosity than usual - to understand or intuit the emotions and thoughts of the author. A return in time does not only involve nostalgia but also a possible new experience resulting from one's own reflexivity filtered through the way of thinking of the predecessors. If history does not always manage to reproduce the past faithfully, it is because it is either affected by the rarity or disparity of evidence, or by the subjectivity of the historian, direct contact with an artifact gives you the opportunity to discover, firsthand, the way a fellow from another time and space thought, felt and created.

Well, most of the important explanations are on the construction phase (which is technically more important for the overall composition) and are presented in the beginning. What aesthetic improvements would you suggest to make the composition more appealing?

A very productive experience and method: having in front of you the works of the earliest ones, you can much more easily self-evaluate; you can discover new and completely surprising or difficult to anticipate ideas, suggestions and methods of approach in the creative process... The past will always have something to say, something to offer, which you might never have thought of! You can say that such an activity is one of the rare occasions when you can allow yourself to face yourself, without the prying eyes and sometimes libertine comments of somme critics disturbing your privacy; a moment of honesty with yourself and your ideas unaltered by their influence. And this happens without the passion of speech, without bias. It's just you and the silence of those who had something to say, important and meaningful, at a given moment.

Hi. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad). I loved the video! And beautiful Ink. I alsi use W&N Drawing ink with a dip pen amongst others and I also use a G nib due to its versatility (amongst others) but I've never used this "Brick Red" W&N ink and I really like it! It has (on TV) a beautiful red. Now I'm gonna have to buy it just to try it (a 14ml bottle for starters). And an amazing drawing straight up without a previous pencil sketch. Something I've learned that helps to improve your observational skills since you can't erase, BUT it is very difficult to master. I really like how you did it on this video... lots of patience on each stroke/line (I also paint and when I draw I'm always thinking as a painter). Again, thank you for sharing your Art and (as a new subscriber) I will keep watching. Cheers from Sunny Spain! 😁👍😎✌

Hi again, Jim! So nice to hear from you again, I am glad you enjoyed this video as well! I really like the ink myself- I initially bought it expecting something closer to a terracotta colour, I was surprised to see the almost magenta red instead. But it works well for something like this, it is very visible on the page and quite pleasant to look at. Drawing straight in ink is definitely more difficult but a great exercise- I have to be very focused and sometimes I just practice the hand movement before I touch the page with the nib, if that makes sense. Thanks again for watching! Ruxandra

Hi Classical Odyssey. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad). Well I must say that... First, I just found you on CZcams and I don't know why CZcams has never prompted your videos sooner. And yeah! I subscribed! Second, yesterday I watched a few videos (from the beginning) where you were drawing horses with ink and they were great! I actually loved the ink you used (I need to write down the soluable fountain pen "graphite" ink you used on that VIDEO, because the blooming effects where great. With regards to this video... very good work. I am currently practicing more again with coloured leads on 2mm lead holders as well as with black charcoal, on toned paper, and using white charcoal for highlights (I'm a self taught artist that started last year after a life of working in the Biz World and I'm just loving it!!!!). Thank you for sharing and even though I don't post lots of messages, I just want you to know that I'm watching. Cheers from Sunny Spain!!! 😁👍😎✌

Hi Jim! Thank you so much for the kind words and I am so happy to hear that you not only enjoyed the video but you also found it helpful! I find it so inspiring to hear from people taking art seriously after having had different career paths. Thank you again and I wish I had some Spanish sun right now :D

Hi everyone! This interview was such an amazing experience and I want to apologise for the less than great sound quality- due to several technical reasons I had to screen record this interview, which overlapped with some connection issues. The subtitles are however quite good so please use them in case it is not clear enough. Thank you for our support!

Just started using pen and ink I'm not used to drawing without and under drawing with pencil what's the best way to move away from the under drawing what should practise 🙏

Don't be too stuck on the idea! It's best in the beginning to focus on the fundamentals and use whatever helps you to make the best learning experience. Not using the underdrawing is only to practice things that you have already acquired and internalised, but you should feel free to do that along the way as well. Don't be discouraged, every mistake is a lesson learned- therefore valuable
