I find that kids who grow up with pets tend to be better people. Not physically or financially per se, just more decent and kind.
That's my experience too. Children who grow up with dogs develop better social skills and it is much easier for them to take responsibility.
:/ iv never owned an animal and I dont have friends
I grew up with cats around me, as an adult I felt like a cat myself. only want to socialize at certain times...
I agree I was raised with a bunch of pits and my grandma always had a dog. I love to help ppl and honestly I have set myself up great financially bc I want to make sure I can take the best care of a dog when I decide to get my own. When my grandma oldest dog died I couldn't get a dog and just last summer I saw a dog like her and had a break down and a panic attack at the dog pound
Actually there are some studies that support your train of thought, it's a way to teach empathy, responsibility, some basic life skills (feeding, cleaning etc) and about life and death, at a young age
I got my first shepherd when I was 1. Misty and i did everything. She tought me how to love and what loyalty is. When she was 13 she waited for me to come home from school to see me for the last time. She passed in my arms while I laid down with her. She tought me a lot and she was my first loss followed by mom 2 years later. Miss you mom miss you Misty. â€
â€ïžđ¶â€ïž
My 2 dogs didnât wait for me. None of them passed away with me by their side. They all chose the times when I was at school. I knew they were weak at their times and couldnât wait for school day to end, came home and found that theyâd gone. Twice.
They waited for you so they could say goodbye đ đ¶ đ

The fact that the little girl could walk the dogs and not have them drag shows how well behave they are.
Hate to be that guy, but it's "behaved" not "behave". I realize that language changes, but some changes just make me... despair. One of those is the dropping of the "d" or "ed" from the end, that I've seen more and more these days. You can be biased, but you can't be "bias". You can be well behaved, but not "well behave". That's just poor grammar.
I also find it somewhat dismaying that I speak English, which is not my first language, better than most people who've grown up speaking English.
Chris LaFace lol iâm 99.9% sure the guy just forgot to put the d after the e. doesnât really look like you hate to be that guy.

Its sooo completely unfair that dogs dont live forever.

What lives forever ?
But this breed especially sadly! Our Bernese was only 4 years old when he died at cancer :( and story goes that many of them donÂŽt get much older then 7-8 years which I found very sad.

Just perfect. This is how every child should grow up. My son is 16, we lost our 2 dogs he grew up with last year. It was of course devastating but I overheard him talking about them to a friend, his voice full of love. Now we have a new rescue dog, will not be the same but we love her also to the Moon and back.
Of course a dog can never replace another, but they can sure help ease the pain and create their own spot in your heart. :)
This is like a training exercise when they lose their grandparents. And then that is a training exercise when they lose parents. They need to learn to grieve cause it fucking hurts losing parents
I grew with a Labrador and Irish Staff, Miss them so much
If all kids grew up like this, we wouldn't have anywhere near the problems we have today in society.
I lost my dog at April last year. He was my world. Since then there is a big void in my life and It s rare somebody or something makes me smile. Now I know about depressions thatâs for sure.

Actually there is a fitting pet for every circumstance - we lived till I was 17 in a rather small flat - not suitable for a dog (I think dogs need ample space, like a garden or something similar), but my parents bought me a parrot (I had 2 parrots in a 10 year time) ... luckily within a year after the 2nd one passed, we moved to a house with a garden ... it was natural that we searched for a dog, so I "ended" up with my 1st dog, Cicero, the collie (Lassie-style) ...
And people say donât leave kids alone with dogs. Kids and dogs are best friends.
Popcorn lived to be 16. Not the smartest, but knew when you needed some love.
To anyone that has lost a for legged best friend, tell we meet again on that rainbow bridge.
My grandparents had a black lab and this dog was so sweet with me when I was a toddler. I remember even trying to ride her like a horse and she would just roll with it. Dogs are just beautiful creatures.
I had a black lab cocker spaniel mix and he was BEAUTIFUL. Docile like his cocker mother and really athletic and wanting to run around at the slightest hint of anything exciting or fun like his lab father. Such a loyal dog. Iâm told the puppies would follow me in a line like ducklings, and Iâd make them go to Puppy Camp, where theyâd learn lessons, like how not to fall over as much, and making friends, and how to wear tea party dresses. You know, basic education. đ I was about four at the time. That dog didnât leave us for just as long has he could fight to remain in this Earth. The worldâs a little dimmer since heâs gone from it.
oh my god that is so crazy my parents had a black lab (we lost it when I was one) but my sister was about 5 and she tried to ride him too what the heck!!!

You can almost always be sure, that kids who are brought up in a loving family like this, that they will grow up to have loving families of their own on day. It starts with the parents.
These are the kinds of families that we all would like to have as neighbors.
Kinda makes me sad when she will come to the realization that dogs live no where near as long as humans do, which makes it all the more special, the time you have with them â€ïž

The fact that the children are at an age when they really love, enjoy and care for their pets is great, and makes all the difference for both pets, and owners.
Nothing worse than to see an animal abandoned in its own home by kids that have grown older, and no longer care for the animals. It is sad. But that is not the case here. Obviously the kids adore their Mom, Dad, and canine sister and brother. A blessing, really.
There will be a time when the kids will grown, and the animals will get less of their attention but then again, that happens even with mom and dad. By then they will be old, and probably most likely enjoy the quiet, and a bit of being left alone. The fact that they part so soon before our lives end is really sad. I know I could have enjoyed many, many more years with my beloved German Shepherd. The pain of losing her was beyond sad.
From that day on, I never had another pet.
Congratulations on a beautiful family. Stay strong, and together, always.
