She sees it as a need. Give the dog treats without the trivial training. That's love. Leave treats on the ground and see how much milk she retrieves. Congrats on training a dog. Will love mine and let them do as wanted in their free will. Sleep with us? Yeah,they want to. Isn't based on rewards. Chase a ball? Yeah,the same. Just seems like you trained help because no help no treats.

OMG Lucy knows SO MANY words!!! Holy crap! She is one VERY smart pup!!! And I am guessing the amount of love and attention she receives is why she happily is retaining all those words that most dogs have no clue what they are!!! Great job mom, dad, and Lucy!!!! And very sweet and adorable twins too!!!!!

Spectacular the owners took the time to train Lucy so she can be an integral part of the family.

One secret - the items are specifically placed, yes she knows the words but she also knows where they are placed ;)
They trained their own service dog! That's no mean feat! She's a smart cookie, and their idea to incorporate her into everything was a genius one. I wish them many, many more happy years together 💞
I too was very impressed at how she functioned as a service dog. Clearly she has blossomed and flourished with the responsibility.
Her life has meaning. Keep the child safe.
I don't think it was training. I think it was the three of them figuring out the new dynamics of life with the new extensions and wanting to have a place that did it. Lucy was telling them she wasn't just their pet, but a family member and wanted a greater responsibilities. And on her pewent's side, and to their credit, they heard her and figured out how to get her involved and let her know she is still important to them and the pack.
This is a working breed
I've never seen a dog this well trained who wasn't a helper dog for someone who is disabled. This is amazing!
What a sweet little "Nanny" dog. Very loving, trusting, and willing to do anything for her humans.
That dog has a huge vocabulary! Fleece, thermometer, and other words that aren't treat, walkies, or outside. Amazing!
So true, an AMAZING vocabulary! I thought my dog had a great repertoire when it came to associating objects w/words and commands, but Lucy is exceptional. What a good girl and a great nanny!

Human beings aren't parents to animals. We have 2 legs , not 4. His parents are adult dog's , which are animals. Human are pet owners , not parents to animals. We're parents to our Human being kids

You can tell by her walk that she LOVES TO HELP OUT.
What a great way to teach the dog that she has a place in this new larger family! Keeps her brain active and happy while the parents have to spend more time caring for their new babies!

And maybe it would help some people feel the need to save a dog from a shelter or maybe just love the ones they have a little more. I’m amazed how many things the dog could do and to know the name of the items was really impressive. I’m sure it took hundreds of hours to get her to that point.

@@davidmiles4678 The dog is clever, no doubt. To a large extent, the video is a collection of clips of the dog carrying stuff around, and also clips of trained behavior, and then adding a voice-over and turn it into a story.

Pretty much every dog needs a job. They were able to take it to a whole other level.
FYI...a month ago I adopted a 5 year old female GSD...her name is Lucy
Million $ question is how on earth they trained Lucy in such efficient way ? This is extraordinarily awesome.
My service dog is a black lab. Labs are easy to train once you find their motivation. For mine (and many) it's food; for some it's toys. She was taught with a clicker. Everything else after that is really just chaining (teach one behavior, like "go to the fridge" - click, treat. Then teaching her to pull the rope is another thing, until she learns to go and pull. Then you add the behavior of taking something (anything!) and bridge it to the milk bottle... and build up until you have the whole chain behavior of going to the fridge, pulling, grabbing the bottle, returning to you... then going back and closing the door. It's possible, just takes time. Once you have the initial "click = treat" and some basic behaviors like come and touch, everything is a lot easier.

There is really something wonderful about a dog maturing and stepping up when the situation craves.
Lucy is obviously above and beyond most dogs with the way she fetches things.
I think it actually does a lot for a dog to get such a clearly defined 'meaning'. Now they have to protecct and serve. And Lucy clearly loves it.
So glad you incorporate Lucy in everything. Must have taken a while to train her, but she looks so pleased to help.
That 's the way it should be. the dog is not just a pet, it is a part of your family. they are like kids, they want to help and feel like they are contributing. The cuddling with Lucy is great. She gets to have some special time just like the babies do.

What an absolutely lovely story. Lucy is a lab and they are so smart and hard working dogs. We had one when I was a child and he was so special to all of us. Even though he has been gone for decades we still remember him. It is wonderful to see how wonderful these dogs are.
Amazing. Our chocolate lab died 8 years ago and I still miss her. They are special. She loved being around my grandson and letting us know if he needed something. She would sit by his side when he ate Cheerios and love it if he dropped some for her.

What a charming story! I hope they write a book how you train your dog to do all of those things. I trained my dogs to shut the doors and turn the lights on. They were much better shutting the doors. I thought about putting a tie in the refrigerator but then thought about that twice as I thought they might just help themselves to what was ever in the fridge. I certainly would like to know how they taught their dog all the things that they did. It's amazing. It's not that I doubt that the dog could do it I just wonder how people teach a dog to do all the things they did. Loved this story.
Emotions apart, u can train more dogs like this and a lot of people gonna be blessed 😊
Retriever dogs like to keep busy, and like to have a task. They delight in fetching, helping, guarding, watching, and learning. They need the mental and physical stimulation to thrive. This lovely Chocolate Lab is such a helper, so well trained, and so happy to help out the family : )

Smart dogs can have (estimated) IQs up in the 70s, which is smarter than many humans who vote, work etc.

TRAINED. For food. Think about if it was a human. My pets have treats and food 24/7. Still get cuddles and chase balls and love all day. Just no slavery waiting on commands. You can see she is always waiting for another command.
