╔ About The Hullo Pillow ╗
Hulltex - a company headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota - offers pillows filled with buckwheat hulls. The brand’s current selection includes one pillow designed for night-to-night sleeping, along with two specialty models.
The Hullo is the Hulltex flagship model. The pillow contains roughly eight to nine pounds of buckwheat hulls encased in an organic-cotton twill cover. The hulls can be added or removed at any time to adjust the thickness, but the pillow generally feels ‘Firm’ regardless of the fill volume. The Hullo is sold in Small, Standard, and King sizes; the cover is machine washable.
The Bolster Pillow is a cylindrical model measuring roughly 17″ long. It contains roughly seven pounds of buckwheat hull fill encased in an organic-cotton twill cover. This pillow is designed to provide additional support in bed, and may be useful as a headrest or leg pillow. It may also serve as a bolster during yoga and other exercise routines.
The Floor Pillow is a cylindrical cushion measuring 5″ thick. It contains roughly three pounds of buckwheat hulls encased in an organic-cotton twill cover. The Floor Pillow - as its name implies - is designed to provide padding and improve posture for people seated on the floor. It may also serve as a headrest or leg bolster.
Buckwheat pillows like the Hullo and other Hulltex models are ideal for sleepers who prefer firm surfaces for their head, neck, and shoulders. The hulls provide moderate yet consistent conforming, and most side and back sleepers experience some level of pain and pressure relief. The adjustable loft is also beneficial for those whose pillow thickness preferences vary from night to night. Due to good air circulation between the hulls and a breathable organic-cotton cover, the Hullo sleeps reasonably cool, as well.
The Hullo pillow has a relatively high price-point, as is typical of buckwheat models. Hulltex offers free shipping anywhere in the contiguous U.S., and backs the Hullo with a 60-night sleep trial. Read on to learn more about the Hullo and other buckwheat pillows from Hulltex. This guide also includes an overview of the brand’s shipping and return policies, as well as some similar pillow recommendations.
The Hullo - like many competing buckwheat pillows - has certain advantages over other pillow types.
It is exceptionally firm and ideal for sleepers who find other pillow materials too soft, and the adjustable loft makes the Hullo a good pick for those with shifting thickness preferences.
The Hullo also offers great temperature neutrality and is easy to clean and maintain. However, the pillow may be too firm for some and it is not available in softer settings. Additionally, the Hullo is quite heavy and does not provide much moldability.
What Type of Sleeper is Best Suited to the Hullo Pillow?
A sleeper’s experience with a pillow typically depends on his/her weight and preferred sleep position. Based on customer and owner experiences, as well as our own product testing, the table below lists sleeper ratings for the Hullo based on these two factors.
Please note: at this time we have not received enough feedback or conducted sufficient testing to generate ratings for the Bolster Pillow or Floor Pillow from Hulltex. We will update this page as soon as possible.
For more information on sleeping positions please see our pillow guides for side, back, and stomach sleepers.
Firmness Options: All Hulltex pillows provide a ‘Firm’ feel regardless of the buckwheat hull volume.
Package Deals: At this time, Hulltex does not offer any bundles or packages for the Hullo or other pillows
Now, let’s look at how the Hull Pillow is built. The table below lists firmness, thickness, and composition specs for the pillow.

Thanks for your detailed review. What are you paying for if buckwheat hull is the outer shell of buckwheat?

Buckwheat is too HARD and CRUNCHY. Millet hull pillows are MUCH BETTER. Brett's Natural Health baby. Read the reviews. Freaking amazing!

I bought one. Then realized I spent $100 on food byproduct and could have simply bought a bean bag and saved myself $95.
