    Great videos as usual 👍, I just replaced my alternator and you have to flex the rubber hose to the AC to get it out. I also watched that video 👍, Alternator works great but AC line rubber cracked and I can see a leak 😔. We live in AZ so we have no rust, but everything rubber dries out and we burn paint off, but there's a cost no matter where you live. Thank you again for all your great videos ☝️

    This was by far the best video I've seen for repairs. this helped me a lot. you made it look way easier though. I was putting myself into some weird yoga positions to get to some of those bolts. ha ha. I got a strainer, and also a drier to replace with them. I was surprised you didn't mention the drier. I was reading that was really important to replace when opening the AC system. Also, I saw some people saying to use blue lock tight, and some say to use anti-seize on the compressor bolts. I'm a huge fan of anti-seize. but wouldn't this be a good one for blue lock tight?

      Thanks for the kind words bro. As far as the drier goes, it's integrated into the condenser, technically you should replace it but in reality, if you apply enough vacuum, it should remove all/most of the moisture in the system. (www.tacomaworld.com/threads/4l-ac-receiver-drier-location.341734/). As far as the loctite vs antiseize goes - I personally went with antiseize for future replaceability. Those bolts are thin and definitely does not take much force to shear them if they seize up. That area of the motor is high exposure to moisture and as long as the bolts are torqued down to the proper specs, it shouldn't back out.

      @@KFloTacoma yeah that's fair enough. I ended up doing the anti seize as well. only used the lock tight on the clutch nut. I forgot to put the little rubber boot back on after the filter. so I had to get those lines off twice. every thing is back together, and I'm about to go test my work with a refill! thanks again for the video!

    Great overview video! I am in the middle of this job (also replacing the condenser) right now. One note: That 8mm "Torx Bolt" is supposed to be a 10 mm, and torqued to 18 ft/lbs. Also, I found that I had to remove the alternator to get access to the compressor bolts (it is still tight!), and this allowed me to remove the compressor from above. The correct oil is Toyota RL897 which is PAG60, and generally unavailable. Most dealers use PAG46.Finally, you did not flush the lines. Why??

    So I did all my idler pulleys, tensioner, and a new belt at the same time. You have to move the Alternator out of the way to get to the tensioner. It's only 2 bolts. This makes the top 2 12mm bolts on the compressor a bit more accessible. Just adds another 15 minutes or so to the job

      I also did everything with the tire on and left the sway bar on. Kind of a pain, but I won't have to get it realigned this go around

    Wow! this is the first video I have seen from you, and it was excellent. Great video work, very clear shots, excellent editing and use of background music. Showing the tool sizes is excellent, and great explanations of how to do the work. Very well done, thank you. I do have one small comment though. When using an extension, and /or a universal, your torque values will change quite a bit. I don't know how much different, but I do know that the actual torque will be quite a bit less the the torque set on your tool. I don't mean to critique you, I just want to help if I can. Again thank you for producing such a great video.

      An extension if kept inline with the fastener being torqued will have no effect on torque value. It will torque the same as if no extension is used. A universal will definitely apply less torque to the fastener if not kept inline, which is why you would use a universal in the first place. Great video BTW.

    Very helpful video. I have a couple of additional questions:
    1) Did you drain system first? How?
    2) When you purchased your new compressor did you also get new metal washers for each of the tube ports? Did you pre-lube these washers with the same refrigerant oil you used on the other washers that are on the tubes at the condenser end?
    3) Is it necessary to replace the strainer? Or can you skip that part?
    4) In the end of video it appears that you remove an additional tube going into the condenser. You call it the radiator side of the high pressure line. Is this correct or am I missing something? If so, which tube is this?
    5) If I don't want to refill system myself I assume it's fine, after replacing compressor, to drive car to service station and have someone else do this.

      Bro to answer your questions:
      1) It was completed drained due to a leak, you can get a local shop to drain it for you if it there's still pressure - you can check that with the manifold
      2)Yes, it came with new washer and new screws
      3) technically, anytime you open the system you should replace the strainer - your call though at the end of the day. keep in mind these strainers are only like 3 bucks
      4) It's the tube going from the compressor to the condenser
      5) technically yes - automotive AC shops should be able to handle it - it's your call though. I would recommend at least calling them up beforehand just to make sure

    I jist replaced my power steering pump on my 2005 tacoma 4.0. It was giving a wine that sounded similar to a failing pump fixed that and a high pressure hose to the pump and I'm still getting the noice sounds like it's coming from the AC compressor. Looks like I'll have to replace that now as well might as well get a new belt as well.

      Good luck, I also have the video on the serpentine belt replacement and pulleys. Maybe you can check the pulleys too because a failing pulley can have a similar whining noise at failure

    @kflo Great vid. Still in diagnose mode trying to decide if replacing the compressor is the right next step. Symptoms are a lowering idle if anything that loads the AC (AC itself, defrost, etc). in cold weather it will die if left in idol and any AC demand is on. Runs great w/o AC demand.
    now i'm getting a scream when AC kicks in so suspecting the compressor failing.
    suggestions on trouble shooting? 09 tacoma 4 cyl

      Sounds like your system is probably over pressurized! When you turn on the A/C button, double check that the radiator fan is kicking on (it should spin up pretty fast). If that fan is not running it can raise the system pressures (if it's not running, fix that first). If the fan is running, pickup a R134a Manifold set from Harbor Freight and check your pressures (there are a lot of videos here on CZcams on how to check that). There are also a lot of charts online that show what the pressures should be for a given outside temperature. Also, the charts usually have a guide as to what the problem might be given specific high side and low side pressures. - Also a scream is typically the belt slipping (you may need a new belt as well) Hope this helps!

    Great Videos all around and this one makes it look so simple.
    My AC clutch when out on my 2014 Tacoma and I replaced it but i cannot figure out how to connect the single red wire coming from the new clutch. How did you transfer over the AC clutch wire harness and connect it to the new clutch? Its just one wire, and i feel like an idiot i can figure it out.

    On my 2006 Tacoma V6 the A/C is working fine, but what appears to be engine oil is leaking from the bottom of the compressor. Should I go ahead and replace the compressor to stop the leak? The truck has 128,000 miles and has never had an oil leak anywhere before now.

    I notice you didnt replace the dryer in the condenser. Have you had any problems with moisture in the system? Im about to do this but to my knowledge there is no way to replace that dryer without getting a new condenser which Im to lazy to do lol

    Hey all, I know this is a bit dated but it's a great video. Got a question on the oil capacity. The Toyota formula seems to indicate roughly 5.1oz but I've seen elsewhere people say that's for the compressor only then need to add extra if replacing the condenser and more again if flushing the lines and evaporator. Anyone know if this is correct and if so what amounts? Seems this is a big secret that Toyota doesn't publish. Thanks

    I just worked on my compressor today and it was tough. The 2 bolts closest to the cabin were a pain to remove. After hours of struggling, I was able to get everything back together. How much oil did you have in your oil compressor? I had less than an ounce. I'm not sure if that's normal or not. My new compressor says it comes with 3 ounces of oil prefilled. Is it correct, we will never know haha. Also, how did you torque the 2 bolts closest to the cabin? I was barely able to get those bolts hand-tight.

      LOL you should be ok - if it's marked as prefilled then that amount of oil plus the oil already in the system should be good enough. I used an extension and a swivel to torque the back ones.

    Thanks . I’ve been watching your videos. I have a 2012 Tacoma V6 and my ac was not cooling so I recharged it. I saw some wetness on the discharge hose so I’m assuming that’s where the leak is. I have the new hose and will replace it. Can you pls give me some tips and what’s the torque for the bolt for the compressor and condenser side. Thanks in advance.

      The wetness on the discharge hose is normal for AC systems. That's not leaking - that's humidity from the cabin being collected on the evaporator and then draining out. The torque specs I call out in the video

    How long did it take you to change out the AC compressor.
    Do you know what the mechanic book time is?
    I’m just curious because someone asked me to change one out for them and I don’t really know how long it will take hopefully no issues

      it will probably take you about 2 - 4 hours depending on how seized some of those bolts are. I'm not sure what the mechanic time is TBH

    Where did you get the seals for the lines? Is the high side the same thing as high pressure? Toyota dealership was telling me that high side line needs replaced. I have a 2012 Tacoma. Is this essentially the same?

      No, it's just a regular drill bit with the smooth side inward into the tensioner.

      I think you'll be ok, If you're worried, you can probably drip some of the lubricant in the general gap to have them wick into the seal.

      I replaced the strainer but I also have new evaporator and condenser so flushing the system doesn't make sense with newer heat exchangers.

    Have a stripped bolt on the lower left of the compressor any good options to remove it, I used muiltiple extactors and heat to it just doing want to move. Of course used PB blaster to get some of that rusty off. @KFlo Tacoma

      that's a tough one bro as the bolt itself is long and thin. If the head rounds and you can't get it, I would just cut the head off the bolt to get the old compressor out. That way, you'll at least have the stem to grab or weld a nut on to get more torque to remove the bolt

      @@KFloTacoma yes when I was doing the timing cover gasket due to the leak that happens around the oil dipstick got worst. I was able to removed it with a extractor socket and breaker bar, also sanded the bolt down a bit to get some edges formed.

      @@KFloTacoma I Forgot to mention I did not see any oil in the old compressor, it seized up not sure if that was the issue why it broke no oil. Will this cause any issues If there is no extra in the ac system?

    Where do you add the compressor oil? I have the same compressor that you have in the vid. My compressor came without oil and it says it needs 4.5oz of PAG46.

      You can pour it into any of the ports where the refrigerant hoses go

    Not directly related to compressor replacement, but I hit a deer so I've been driving 6 months without a condenser. Everything else is intact. Will there still be refrigerant in the lines?

      The pump won't run unless there's pressure in the lines. If you wanted to be extra safe you can remove the Magnetic Clutch Relay in the fuse box.

      The magnetic clutch keeps the pulley separate from the drive shaft of the compressor. If the magnetic clutch fails, then it would actually fail in the disengaged position - since it is an electromagnet.

    Could the expansion valve been replaced thru the same hole in th engine compartment or do u have to go thru the dash side?

    Near impossible to get the top wiring harness disconnected. Easier just to disconnect the clutch wire and top 8mm screw from the wiring harness.

      KFlo Tacoma Awsome, that’s where I ordered mine from too. The only thing I couldn’t replace was the expansion valve, the torx head on one of the screws stripped. Anyway, your vids are great and extremely helpful.

      I would suggest to check if the amount of oil in the compressor at the least

    Hey I try to add a/c to my system. But the mercury didn’t stay at 30 it keep going up. And the compressor doesn’t spin when the car is on.

      Did you pull vacuum into the system before loading the R134? The compressor will not spin until there is enough R134 in the system. Keep shaking the can when loading

      Yes we pull the vacum first into the system but we never added new refrigent

      I mention it at 1:30 - You'll have to go to a local AC shop for your system to be drained if you have some pressure in the system

    My bolts broke off while trying to replace ac compressor🤦🏽‍♂️

      major oof bro. I would say try to remove the ac compressor anyways even after you shear the heads of the bolts. There will still be the studs left over that you can torch and put vice grips on . Definitely use a lot of PB blaster and torch it - you don't want to shear off that remaining stud.

      @@KFloTacoma yep, I agree on the torch usage. Unfortunately the piece o need for the torch was only available online and it won't come till my birthday on Monday. I originally wanted to use the torch but got anxious to fix it. Then I heard a loud snap while twisting the bolt🤣

    Hey man, my 2015 Toyota Tacoma, the AC Clutch engage for 10 10-15 seconds, and it disengages and reengage again, do you have any idea of why this is happening, there is no leak as well

      @@KFloTacoma yeah it blows cold air for a few seconds and the clutch disengage and the cold gets wormer and then reengage back again

    Perfect, toyota doesn't honor warranty and quality has gonna way down. Replacing my 21 tacoma 56k miles ac compressor full bumper to bumper warranty, they want 2k dollars just to order it and outta stock with no ETA. Like everything else I'm doing it myself. Thought buying a new truck and toyota would keep me from doing stuff like this for few years. Toyota is junk now. Keep the old ones.

      I'm facing the same issue and they said it is not covered. But hey I got one from an accident 2023 Tacoma model with less than 500 miles.
