RAM 1500 0ff-Road 4x4 Test (Winter Edition) | How Well Do Tire CHAINS Work In SNOW ?

  • Today we are testing the RAM 1500 4x4 off-road in snow with tire chains. Do tires chains really help during the winter on snow and ice? We are about to find out.
    At first we test out the tire chains in 2WD just to show you guys how much grip these chains can give you in slippery conditions. I think the video shows a very strong improvement in traction with the chains on vs when the chains are off. I have a nice set of Wrangler Duratrac tires which are highly rated for the snow and you guys can see how much the truck struggled in wet slippery snow
    Next, we moved on to a 4x4 chain text hoping to show you guys another big different with the chains on. we found a nice steady hill with groomed snow meaning my tires were going to dig down nicely and we would easily see if the tire chains are going to give me an off-road advantage. Turned out that the chains really didn't make too much of a difference on this test. Now, maybe this test wasn't a good test but I still think it shows that not matter what kind of traction aid you have if you sink the truck to the axles you arent going anywhere.
    Anyways guys hoped you liked the video! Enjoy the holidays and Happy New Years!

    Thanks for the demonstration. Chains definitely make a difference. My question is what is a good quality durable chain set that won't break and damage my truck? I've heard of chains breaking or coming loose and slapping the fenders of new trucks damaging them.

    Try 200 pounds of sand bags over the rear tires. Makes a huge difference. If you are keeping the truck consider a ARB air locker for both differentials for real world 4x4. From your Alberta neighbor.

      @TheGettyAdventures  Před 3 lety

      I undercoat my truck once a year. Krown Undercoating here in Canada is pretty legit stuff. It's not going to make the truck 100% rust free but at least slow the build up of rust over the years. and they spray inside your fender and rockers which really helps with rust developing.

    Btw, offroad tires like these are really BAD as winter tires. The rubber is too hard and they are not designed to grip on the ice. Big grooves are just appearance.

  • @justinconrad5283

    First things first. Put your chains on the front. That's where your weight is. Second those cams on your chains need to to be cammed over to take up the slack in your chains that's why they seem to big.

    • @TheGettyAdventures
      @TheGettyAdventures  Před 3 lety

      Maybe I'll make another video with them on the front vs. the rear. Totally agree with you though the weight is at the front. and the chains were so loose the Cams would just flop around and eventually come undone lol. but regardless could very easily be user error! Thanks for the tips

      @@TheGettyAdventuresMy minivan could drive through that better than what your truck is doing. It looks like your tire pressure is way too high for driving in the snow, plus your tires look pretty low profile which is also terrible for driving in the snow.
