Boss IR-200 Pedalboard Build

  • I've just finished my live pedalboard so I thought I'd start my Studio/ Silent Stage board. On this Guitar pedalboard, I'm using the Boss ES-8 switching system and I want to incorporate a compressor, a couple of drive pedals, a Boss GE-7 EQ, and a Boss DD-200 to take care of delays. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

    Thanks for another IR-200 video! I'm still heavily considering picking one of these up when they release, although I would love to try it in the shop first (with headphones, at least) before I pull the trigger. I appreciate the work you put into these videos, very good information and delivery!

    How ingenious is that pedal board. I remember with the smaller ms3 it was a right mess to get hooked cables plugged as i mounted it on top of the board just like all the other pedals. Your solution looks so much better, thanks!

    Great studio board you got there Paul. My studio setup is a little less elaborate. I got my Amp1 Mercury going into my Line 6 HXFX using the four cable method. I got the Amp 1 going into return 2 and one of my dirt pedals going into return 1. I can then move the Pedal and the Amp 1 around using the software to taste which I can also do with any of the HXFX pedals. Loving your videos mate. Cheers.

    That IR 200 looks so big, but it's only 4 inches (hey! I was in the pool, ok?). It's the same width as the Strymon (probably not a coincidence) but just looks larger. I'm looking forward to all the IRs it comes with, and loading my own. It's easy to get lost in IR-wonderland with too many choices, but I am ready for the challenge.

  • @MRxr400
    @MRxr400 Před 2 lety +2

    it's interesting how we all have different ways of thinking. if i get one of these boss IR pedals, it would be the last thing on the board, like going into an amp. the first pedal would be the tuner, top right. kind of keep it like i would for a live board. i don't use switchers, though can see the advantage of less tap dancing and immediate changes. considering putting one on my live board for gigs where amp not practical or amp breaks down, which hasn't happened yet.

      One of the appeals to me for the IR-200 is the FX Loop. So I wouldn’t put all the pedals in front of it. Anything like a delay or reverb I’m putting into the FX Loop of the IR-200 when I get mine. Unless you are always using the IR-200 on clean sound…

  • @neilsimmonsVOA
    @neilsimmonsVOA Před 2 lety

    Have you tested the midi capabilities between the ES8 and the IR200 and if so, is it pretty intuitive? Meaning do you find it easy to toggle between presets on the IR200 with the ES8?

  • @reedl2353
    @reedl2353 Před 2 lety

    Great video! That said, I do not see the benefit to using the IR-200 and DD-200 vs. just using your GT-1000 CORE. Perhaps there is some advantage in editability, but presumably you'd have all of your sounds set for a gig, and in a studio you'd have access to the editing software.

    • @MattShelley138
      @MattShelley138 Před 2 lety

      I thought the same. One benefit is separating the delay presets ie so if you change the delay mix and save it and that may apply to multiple presets. It also means if he uses an amp instead of the IR200 he can bypass it and have a fully analogue path.

      @shaharbar Před 2 lety +1

      @@TheStudioRats so I guess the question is, would forking over $300 more for the GT1000CORE be worth the investment? It would consolidate everything into one pedal. Considering two of those physical pedals cost around that amount. The emulations and editors are getting so good that I’m afraid my sentimental bias for analog gear needs to be re-examined.

I use the POD Live processor (old unit) with pedals and have created presets of my own that give me the sounds I want. I run unit stereo on 2 Fender blues Jr amps.
