You know ;)
The unit sounds great with your IRs btw, I'm gonna have to steal them!
@@sixstringsamurai77 Steal them all!
Almost a "that's what she said" situation hahah
I prefer the tube preamp pedals: it sounds 2 times better and more natural for crunch, rock, metal, blues, lead tones=all what I need
You can't go to wrong with boss can ya, love how simple it seems to operate, great review man!👍🤘🙏
Man this sounds great! It exactly what I want in its balance of simplicity and function.
I think your probably the best at demoing and explaining any piece of gear that is put in front of you..that with your talent level on guitar ..in my opinion ..makes you the top guy to seek out when it comes to great sounds..thankyou for the axfx videos also..have a great day
Leon, Appreciate the excellent teaching you provide in your videos. I learn a lot from you and it makes my music experiences better. Thank You!!
Excellent straight forward review..... your playing is fantastic, and one little detail that impressed me very much was at the 9:42 mark when you let the audio trail off as the video clip changed. Well done mate.... you have a new subscriber.
Great playing to compliment the available sounds. Nicely done.
im looking into this for myself currently and have watched quite a few videos so far , yours is probably the best one for understanding the product . thank you
Glad it was helpful!
thanks for a great review Leon - your guitar face tells me you're into it which (along with James Ryan's review) gave me confidence to order one - thanks for IRs! cheers from Melbourne
Hope you're doing alright over there mate, hopefully won't be too much longer before we can all get out of the house and make some noises in public with these!
Excellent, informative and objective demo as always. Came very close to purchasing either the Iridium or the Walrus alternative (both of which sound good, to be fair), but was really hoping that someone would do a less vintage-centric version. Shame about the lack of sag control from the GT1000, as you say, but it does sound really good in your demo.
Epic demo Sir. Thank you.
Good morning LT! Cool pedal, Great piece of gear! Have a Fine weekend and Be Well All!
The cleans sound good as expected from the Boss gang. That last high-gain amp model was tasty!!!
Cool review Leon. Many thanks for the IRs too! You got a subscriber.
Much appreciated mate! Enjoy
Thank you for sharing those IRs!!!
Nice demo. I just ordered one. I'm a bit of a Boss / Roland fanatic and love JC amp sounds. I wish someone would post a longer demo of the JC amp sound dialed in with stereo chorus, reverb, and perhaps delay.
Thanks for an awesome proper demo of this thing. I’m seriously debating selling my acs1 and replacing it with one of these.
Great review and thanks for the IR 👍
That could be useful to me playing both bass and guitar... Thanks Leon, I'll have to go check that out!
They actually put bass models in! Hurrah!
Very attractive pedal and gooood review! Would be nice a comparison video with Iridium, as you did with the top delays of Boss and Strymon.
Boss, rock solid. Good stuff and looks great. Knob placement works well. Kudos to Boss…👍
What a great engaging and informative vid. Thank you. I am sold on this product now! Great playing as well. I also enjoyed your pensive face upon slipping into a minor key when demoing the ambient reverb. Brilliant. (Was that a bit of Purple Rain in there?)
I'm glad you noticed the Purple Rain progression, that was a happy accident!

@@LeonTodd aaaaaahhh!!!! What's up buddy!!! 😁👊🎸🤯
Great job demoing this!! Like you said it's more then a cab amp modeler. Your a great player too! Also nice guitar collection!! Sometime I want to get a Epiphone explorer like the one you have in the background with the natural finish👍🎸🤘
Great review as usual👍👍
While I'm certainly not going to trade in my FM3 for one of these, this is definitely what I will be recommending to people who want to get started with modeling units. I'm glad they finally made something at this price point. It sounds like a clearer, tighter version of the old Line 6 POD units. Celestion IRs are by far my favorites so the fact that comes stock with those is awesome. Looks like it's well built too.
Yeah it definitely feels like a modeller for people who don't want to know about modellers
9:55 is incredible lead tone!!! Dang! Thanks for the review!!!
My pleasure!
Great chops man! I was contemplating buying an IR200, but w/out built in delay I'll probably pass. I need an all-in-one amp pedal w/both reverb and delay. Keep on rockin'!
Watching this video again brother. God, it's already been a year.. Amazing..
I love the idea of using this on a pedal board with maybe a few pedals such as delay, etc, and a micropitch by eventide and then going direct.. I really like Boss stuff.. I'm driving myself crazy trying to decide how to put together an ampless board.. 😛. I'm usually not so indecisive. 😛 Option paralysis. Just so much sounds soooo good..
Love that les paul brother!
Be well sir!
Soooo many options, i feel the pain bro!
I use just the IR section of this pedal. I use different preamps and a delay after the unit. I really dig it. The amps in the box are ok, but it really is a high resolution IR machine.
The 014 preset sounded big and full, looks very interesting, I was considering an Iridium.
I belive this is one of best pedal plataform, you can test with some distortion pedal like Revv G4!
You can test with a real amp with reactive load and explore more the IR Loader fuction too!
This is a great addition to my Boss MS-3
Very interesting new one on the IR Player market - and short, but deep overview - thanks a lot, Leon. What I´m missing - warm tones at the edge of breakup - so this is more for the rock/metalplayers? Sounds a kind of "harsh" to my ears.Midifunction or a simple favourite switch would be cool for playing live and switch the presets.
Oh man! So many reviews fail to demo warm sounds at the edge of breakup! They're either clean af or high gain. Such a bummer. It's such great way to evaluate the nuances of a preamp/gain pedal. Ok, I'm preaching to the converted here. Rant over.
I knew Leon would have a righteous review of this pedal. It can get fairly chewy. Thanks!
They are gonna sell a lot of these me thinks. Leon again 👏👏👏
Hey Leon, thanks for the great review.
Could you tell me if it is possible to use the Boss IR-200 in front of a speaker/cab instead of an amp?
Cheers from Germany - You‘ve got a new sub. ✌🏼
I'm definitely interested in this product
It's sticky all right! It sounds a lot better than I thought it would
I m starting to think that the offer is so wide in this type machine that an headache is the minimun for the choice first and for the willness to try them all.. Great review as usual.
I've had a lot of Boss products over the years. They all seem to translate the tones to the strings really well, better in my opinion than the other modellers. If you get the tones set up correctly they actually feel like playing a tube amp. I just bought a Headrush MX5 but I can see getting this IR200 also. Seems really handy, and sounds great.
How you liking the MX5? I want to try one out for sure, I don't see enough information out yet to make an "informed" decision myself
@@thenextkurt I jumped in after trying to decide between the Boss Core 1000 and the Pod Go for the last year and a half. This is the perfect in between choice. It does the dual amps and cabs like the Boss, has a good looper and comes with lots of already loaded IR's, and you can load into a patch way more effects than what the Pod Go allows. I was really worried when I first purchased it (the standard presets do not do it justice) and there seems to be no decent reviews out there that make this unit sound good , which is quite disappointing. I'm making my own presets and am constantly surprised at the tones I am getting. On some of the clean tones I'm actually using 2 compressors to get the feel right, but the box has plenty of power to do so and when you get the compression and gains right it feels great under the fingers. As good or better than my Katana 100 Mk2 or my tube amps (which I don't use anymore.) And ... I have not had to crack the manual (that's saying quite a bit because I'm an idiot.) ...if you buy one of these, don't give up on it, it's capable of really great tones with spectacular effects too. It just takes some time. Ask me anything about it, I'll tell you.
@@davidwoods358 wow. Seriously, thank you for taking the time to give a super thoughtful response. I especially like that note of "don't try the presets" because that's what I tell people about the Boss GT-1 and I can save the step of trying a preset when I'm able to demo one. I will for sure think of you if I have any other questions about the MX5, thanks again! Have a good night
Was waiting for another company to do something similar to the Mooer Preamp Live. This seems like it. Compact amp modelers without all the extra effects are great for people that already have a full rig but want some extra amp sounds.
I F'ing love my Preamp Live.
Well, basically for a couple of hundred bucks more you can get the GT1000 core with tons of boss quality effects, many more simulated amps, routing options and also IR loading-all under substantial DSP processing power. Worth taking this into account.
Great review and some very tasty playing. Now, if I could just get something that would make me play and sound like that? Oh..it's practice isn't it!!
How much can I buy a shortcut practice IR, for this Boss IR200 for? Joking aside it sounds fantastic, thanks.
That with HX Effects via 4cm = Boom 🥳
Hey man. Any chance you'll be reviewing the vox amp *sim* pedals? Like the Mystic Edge?
Sounds great....
January 2022....yikes long time to wait!!!!
Mid-gain Diamond amp is my go-to sound on the GT. Tons of dynamic range, and I love the way it plays with my (fairly bright) guitars. Cuts through a mix like a knife!
And it feels so right! Best Regards :)
+1000 for the Bryan Adams reference
That and the Paul Landers FlyRig is making me more curious about setting up a diy flyrig. My thoughts behind it are analog circuits of what I like, and an IR loader that is switchable so that it can also be used either in front of an amp or in the effects loop.
I have a PL fly rig..and a V5 fly rig...my whole rig is a one trip load in!!
Dear Sir thank you for the excellent video and performance. I apologize for my ignorance but I have the following question : Did you connect the IR 200 to any amplifier out the PC?
Great demo!
Now... let me go get myself one.
Late to the game, but I am thinking about buying this. How are the models with the volume knob of the guitar? On my JMP-1 a clean-ish sound achieved with a turned down volume knob is one of my most favourite things to do and so versatile.
Looks interesting.. cab M, iridium, walrus acs1.. kind of holding out to see if universal audio enter a contender. Really pleased with the other UAFX. So got my fingers crossed 🤞
Anything similar by UA will probably be astronomical price wise unfortunately 😞
@@JohnPaulSheets I’m one of those if it is that bit more then I will happily pay that bit more.. I don’t really gripe prices unless the product is not up to the label. I agree that an equivalent device from UA will probably not be in the same price bracket as the UAFX pedals that are currently on show. I do think that lone of products still has a story to tell. Or like I said fingers crossed…
That's a gorgeous Sunburst.
How well does it take pedals? If you put a fuzz, an overdrive, a distortion, delay, reverb, tremolo... How does it sound? My experience is that at least the fuzz, but also the overdrive and distorsion (such as the RAT) don't sound as good through modellers as through my amp, even recorded.
Awesome pedal! Could you demo how to record straight to your computer or iPad or tablet. More power to you and your channel!
what type of reverb would that be at 9:00 ? i guess its studio setting? what would be the setting i could use on strymon big sky to get closest to such clean long reverb? i really strugle to get it to sound so clean, it always sounds very forced / digital
Is it possible to use it really as a usb soundcard... I mean to playback and record on logic for exemple (and listen everything via the headphone jack)... how is the latency?
... or we can only use it to record from the input jack?
Hey Leon, can you compare the 300 to the Iridium? I'm curious if it would be an upgrade.
The ambience effect can still be heard while the ambience effect is in the "off" position when I use the headphone jack. Do you have this issue as well? Looking for help but I can't find Boss tech support. Great video. Cheers
Can you limit the amount of presets to access throughthe switches?? Like, if I found the 2 or 3 sounds I like I can only go through these while gigging?
Thumbs Up 👍🏼🎸🤘🏼
So this will need a power amp and paired with a katana with a celestion redback cab I’m thinking this could rock
Really dig this new pedal. My only gripe is a petty one, I hate the ascetic looks of it. I wish it had a color screen like a helix and different paint job. 🤷🏽♂️
...and it has an FX-Loop! Hallelujah! :-D
spewing no D.I xlr line out :( great review as always leon
finally boss, FINALL! :)
Can the amps be bypassed ? Curious is I can run this after a Bulgarian, handmade jcm800 tube preamp pedal I have…..(thinking a direct pedalboard rig using its ir’s)…..?
Sounds « ok » to me in general but that 14amp preset sounded killer !
year ago i was looking to buy strymon irridium, then acs1 came around but i just wasnt too crazy for either so i got other stuff i wanted more...... now im back at cab sims and i see this new boss pedal.... it seems it beats all other cab sim pedals. that reverb is crazy good, it has screen, presets and options are so fast and easy to navigate. it also has effect loop while irridium does not which some would argue its not needed on amp pedal anyway, but i just cant get over the fact that boss offers so much more for exactly the same price. however i still cannot convince myself to pull the trigger and get that boss because seeing iridium so outdated (even when u compare it to their older pedals like big sky and timeline mobius and all that, they all had screens and effect loops and all that but iridium had stayed so basic) i wouldnt be surprised if at next NAMM they showcase their new amp cab pedal
I highly doubt that. Strymon seem to support their products for a long time AND there's a global shortage of particular electronic components needed to make those sort of pedals.
Does it take well other pedals in front?
Hmmm, have you tried this into a neutral sounding amp?
May I ask how can I switch it off?
Doesn't the GT-1000 have all the capabilities of the individual Boss pedals (IR / OD / MD / EQ / DD / RV - 200/500 SERIES). I thought boss claimed the GT has the equivalent 500 pedal capabilities built in. If there are differences (other than the added flexibility of having far greater control for selecting each component/effect of the signal chain on the fly, I'd really like to know. If the GT has all the capabilities, it would be better for me (and others) to just buy a GT ~ $ 600 instead of half dozen or more $ 250 - $ 400 pedals.
Maybe a silly question but how do you power it on and off. I don’t see a on or off button.
well i thought gt 1000core was the coolest compact solution, but this thingy just blew my mind
I noticed that he IR-200 has the same processor as the GT-1000
Does it take pedals well?
Beautiful playing Sir!..Are you tuned down?
Dose it have an Orange style amp?
Hey Leon could you please demo it as a USB audio interface?
Is there any acostic sim on this device?
one question.. I got a keyboard with midi connections, and want to get an interface to play some vst's with it.. but also want something mainly for recording guitar directly. I've been looking at the Axe I/O with the Amplitude Max but with this being able to be an interface, and having midi connections... Could I connect my keyboard through those and use it as an interface for that as well?
Maybe if you plug it into the stereo "Return" TRS input to bypass the preamp and then also turning off the IR cab simulation.
hey bud, do you teach lessons? You're in Perth, right? I been playing for like 17 years or something but I want to take my game to the next level and you seem like the kinda guy who could help.
Yep, flick me an email Leontod@gmail.com and we can go from there
Please put stereo effects in the loop for us
What is the difference between this and the boss gt100?
This thing sounds great! Kinda torn between something like this and the POD Go for my live solo gigs. I like the idea of having an all-in-one (less gear to setup and pack up). But this may provide a better sound with some additional effects.
in the amp section I discovered the 'Thru' selection. does that mean I can run lets say a UA pedal thru the 200 and access the cabinets and reverb in it?
I was thinking the same... With a ua lion
Where is the balanced output ?
Debating between this and the two notes cab M, does the Boss have a tuner and noise gate? Need an all in one IR loader box to run preamp pedals into. Loved the GT-1000 I had but just had way more than i'd ever need.
Noise gate- yes, tuner - no.
@@LeonTodd perfect, going with the IR-200. Thank you for the reply!
New sub. Maybe if you do another IR200 video, could you showcase/demo the FX Loop? Thanks, very nice presentation!
Thanks for the sub!
US $400 on Reverb on 9/19/2021. Line 6 HX Stomp is roughly $600. Considering the HX Stomp gives you tons more amps and effects, I'm not sure why anyone would buy the Boss over the HX Stomp. YMMV.
The high gain tones are suitably nasty, but I agree that no delays would be a problem. Great high gain and delays just seems like a natural match.
Peanut butter and jelly!
What's a good clean amp recommendation for using one of these contraptions?
Haven't used it with this pedal, but love the Bognar Barcelona as a clean amp pedal platform.
I gotta tell ya brotha. I have been using your IR's since I found them a very long time ago and I rarely, if EVER......change them. They just ....."WORK" and I have no other reason to change other than a times when I just want to mess around. Push that record button though, and the IR is always yours.
That makes me so happy to hear!
How is this pedal for going straight to the FOH for ampless stage use?
Should work great!
My only complaint is that it only has a mono input. What about stereo affects pedalboards? You'd need two of them to record, one for each channel. That's a nope from me. Otherwise, great.
Where's the xlr connector?
How well does it jive with other pedals, especially analog pedals like fuzz?
I'll do a dedicated vid with some drives/fuzzes if I get the chance
You prefer iridium or boss ir 200?
