I’m so glad you guys take Mark Frost seriously. The idea that the original series would even have existed as it did with just Lynch is absurd. But man, so they make a great pair; that visceral intuitiveness David Lynch has, and that intellectual curiosity Mark Frost uses to ground it. Wonderful.
Frost contributed actually a lot more to the show in terms of penning episodes. Lynch was responsible for its weird style of course, but he didn't write most of the iconic scenes or dialogue. Frost is just as important as Lynch.
The History of Twin Peaks is an amazing book. Five stars. As Mark Frost said in a tweet response to me once, it's an epistolary style book. Brilliant!
Thank you all for this discussion. Great to be reminded of things, plus new things 💍🤩 💍
Bravo!!!!! So great to see you all! And Dave’s distillation still rocks solid! So looking forward to the next episode. Thank you Jeremiah for your awesome work!
Good discussion - I look forward to Pt 2!
It’s hilarious, right as I was about to comment upon my opinion of why Mark Frost included all of the historical elements in the first chunk of the book, it ends up being summarized quite eloquently by the guy in the lower left box. If there was ANYTHING that The Secret History did best, it was to show just how long the lodge entities have been around. I’m very grateful for that too, it lends a greater weight to the entire mythology. Being a super fan, for whom Twin Peaks is essentially RELIGION, all of this myth building was important to create a broader foundation, which culminated in Part 8; The GREATEST religious experience for any Twin Peaks fan!!! I’ll save my harsher criticisms of the book for the next videos. Believe me, I have a couple. Keep up the good work guys, looking forward to the next instalment!! 😀👍

🍿 Waiting 🎬
Man this was such a great discussion. Kind thanks to all involved.
Thank you, Mr. Ring.
I really enjoyed this book, and it’s 100 times better than Mark Frost's next book about Twin Peaks.
we'll be discussing that one too at some point
I enjoyed The Final Dossier, but it definitely wasn’t nearly as good as Secret History, and I think it’s because Secret History was probably something he really wanted to do for a long time, and The Final Dossier was a necessary evil that came up in some contract or whatever. It’s always a contract.
I feel mandatory books are Secret Diary and Final Dossier, Its like twin peaks 1.5 and 3.5 for me. I still love Secret History and the Diane audiobook tape thingy and My Life, My Tapes but FD and SDoLP is required viewing in my opinion. Great video!
Mark Frost must have been reading Joque Vallee and John Keel. Hope you mentioned that in part 2
Great news ! Looking forward to it
Loved this so much! Can’t wait for part 2!
Really looking forward to part 2!!
comes out Saturday, Feb 24th Twin Peaks Day!
I love James so much
Look forward to it, thanks!
"It was weird". A Twin Peaks book? Weird? Shocker!
and rewatching in multiple parts because it s looong 🍿 ⏰
loved the conversation! i'm glad to know i wasn't the only one who said "uh, what the hell?" when reading it! hope to see more collabs in the future!
there will be 2 more parts to this talk and 1 (maybe 2) for our Final Dossier chat ♥
@@TakeTheRing can't wait to see it
bought this as a coffee table book. it’s very anti twin peaks of me to prefer to be spoon fed by your channel but i always prefer it
Do you know any good books on Twin Peaks?
29:58 🤣 My favourite part
Have you done / are you gonna do final dossier?
yep! eventually
Hurley must not have been forced to watch Charlotte's Web in school.
E-lec-tri-ci-ty
I also watched FWWM first and I don't regret it.
My issue is it makes the world smaller by answering too much mythology then leaving it open ended and in mystery like how it is in the show and movie.
But…part of the point was that it explains nothing and Milford spent his entire life chasing something that he eventually had to let go because so much of it was unknowable…I mean…were you reading it?
Ruined by the music being too loud.
Seriously, why do so many CZcamsrs make this same stupid mistake?
I thought this was going to add something new to the conversation. It does not.
I thought your comment was gonna make a difference.
………………… IT DID NOT!!!
🤣
