Fareed: Is anyone paying attention to China?

  • CNN's Fareed Zakaria says that "amid the flurry of news about Hope Hicks and Jared Kushner and this week’s Trump reality show on guns, it would be easy to miss what’s happening in China. But it is huge and consequential. China is making the most significant change to its political system in 35 years. What impact will this have on China and the world? That’s the question that every policymaker, business executive and investor should be asking."

      Dey took er jerbs!!! It's not one person making bots though. It's most likely a team with an IT infrastructure. Comments on all the news CZcams channels. Being liked to the top even though it would have nothing to do with the video. It's pretty insane. To set up proxies, make several accounts, write scripts to spam. To then create the accounts that'll like the comment. Web scraping to reply to any negative trump comment with "MAGA 2020"

      I would only agree with this if Xi will end this policy when he step down 15 years from now. The reason is that the current anti corruption in this giant institution needs time to establish the culture and ethics so that the on going establishing anti corruption unit/department can eventually become an independent entity that oversees the institution, like the ICAC in Hong Kong during the mid 1970s which worked wonder for the city.

    Paying attention? NOT really. Well, last week, while this news attracted the attention of all world leaders, Trump was tweeting about "Alex" of SNL. A day or two ago, he expressed his admiration to the Chinese-president-for life, and wished the same for the United States. I hope people with the means to make the difference, especially the legislative branch, are watching.

    Zakaria is NOT a China expert. He derives his ideas from reading other writers. In fact, he was suspended by CNN for plagiarism. Google it. Should have been fired.

    • @Hirnlego999

      @itannoysme3348 Před 6 lety +5

      Yet among your sarcastic "nobody else," how many are paid top-dollar and featured as the lead commentator for CNN? Other writers' ideas should be used to support his points, with credit given to those writers, accordingly. Their ideas shouldn't serve AS Zakaria's points. No worries, though: I realize making a smart-ass sophomore remark is easier than looking up the issues he's had with this.

    • @Hirnlego999
      @Hirnlego999 Před 6 lety

      I'm not sure you have noticed but to talk about such an important subject for less than 4 minutes does not exactly give a lot of room to start quoting others. And it's not like Fareed has no knowledge of his own.
      This is a problem with the media because it has to be made fast with soundbites and easily consumed infotainment so that the masses do not lose interest above all.
      He could have experts talking about this for hours but would CNN think it is good TV? Would the watchers tune out? Probably.
      You'd do a better job yourself in trying to look into what he says and argue against if you think he is wrong.

    • @itannoysme3348
      @itannoysme3348 Před 6 lety +6

      Hirnlego999 He writes articles, too, you know. And he has spent little time on the ground in China, speaks no mandarin, and displays only very cursory knowledge of China's history. He's an IR generalist, which might be useful to CNN, but can be harmful if people take his observations on China as deeply informed or even credible. The past plagiarism issue, which you are avoiding, also reduces his credibility. And let me add that the analysis he provides on-air should be his own regardless of whether he has time to provide footnotes on-air for supporting ideas. And note: I am not saying that all of which he presents on air does not originate from him.

    • @Hirnlego999
      @Hirnlego999 Před 6 lety +1

      Again. Still no discussion whether he is wrong or not. Reading alone can result into being extremely knowledgeable, and nothing in this says to me that he has no clue.
      It's not Trump level in not even knowing what Brexit is.
      I don't think the plagiarism is such a big deal, almost everyone steals one way or another and almost no thoughts are really even original. It's in fact quite common that even the language used or even downright to sentences are constantly repeated by different people. As said, nothing in this indicates that he does not know what he is talking about or that he is, well, bored with the subject.

    lol, the so-called term limit only gave you an impression of modernisation of politics, the truth is Jiang Zemin ruled the country even after his retirement, Hu Jintao's power is restricted by Jiang's men and couldn't do any meaningful policymaking. 30 years after the 1982 constitution, the battle between fractions within the party tended to go out of control and no one dare to touch the issue of corruption. Xi basically faced a dilemma when he became the party leader in 2013: consolidating power and changing the bureaucratic system will trigger resentment both from the middle class, officials and the rich, not doing anything means the problem will eventually undermine the reputation of the party. Western media never gives you a full picture in terms of foreign affairs, the view is too restrictive.

    Xi Jinping is a good leader of China, probably one of the most ambitious of all. Him becoming a leader of China for life is more joyful than other new leaders switching after 2 terms. China & people with Chinese background have been waiting for a leader like Xi Jinping to revive the country after the horrific Mao regime. We now accept that China is a Communist state & as long as the Chinese people are opened to opportunities, I don’t see the fuss why Xi Jinping can’t be a leader for life.

    Xi will be 68 when his 2nd term ends... If Trump to run a 2nd term , he will be 74. I feel bad that Obama was not to given a chance (by law) to run a 3rd term. He will certainly beat both major nominees.

    China never had any democracy in history. It is an evil country that wants to occupy other lands ..... Tibet, Manchuria, East Turkestan, Mongolia, South China Sea and Formosa already occupied by the Chinese.
