- CNN's Fareed Zakaria says that "amid the flurry of news about Hope Hicks and Jared Kushner and this week’s Trump reality show on guns, it would be easy to miss what’s happening in China. But it is huge and consequential. China is making the most significant change to its political system in 35 years. What impact will this have on China and the world? That’s the question that every policymaker, business executive and investor should be asking."
Notice how the video isn't even about Trump, and the trolls are here yelling his name... it's not even this video. This is what Russian troll farms look like
they are probably bots.
Dey took er jerbs!!! It's not one person making bots though. It's most likely a team with an IT infrastructure. Comments on all the news CZcams channels. Being liked to the top even though it would have nothing to do with the video. It's pretty insane. To set up proxies, make several accounts, write scripts to spam. To then create the accounts that'll like the comment. Web scraping to reply to any negative trump comment with "MAGA 2020"
therock343 they're nuts.
then you miss the point of the video, its cnn fake news trying to demand new laws to be made, trying to get the low information useful idiots to do it for them,
His final words were "is anybody in Washington [implying the Whitehouse] paying attention?"
Fact is, the idiot Trump is more concerned about comedy impersonators of him or golf than global superpowers.
Deng consolidated power to push through reforms, Xi is doing the same thing, just because he's not following the western doctorine does not mean he's not a reformer.
I love you china from japan🇨🇳🇯🇵
Yes. But not the right kind of attention. Attention designed to reinforce wishful thinking rather than attention designed to help serious strategy/predictions
I usually do not agree with Mr. Zakaria this time he is absolutely correct . This move fits with what China has been doing the past 5 years
Yeah, the world's new superpower needs a leader worthy of it. A leader that can carry it to ever higher glories.
Dictator + twenty first century = destructive failure
Cute, is this the "mathematics" taught to American children these days?
Duya Tuksis I would not know the mathematics taught to American children these days since I was educated in European private schools and I am not a child .
I would only agree with this if Xi will end this policy when he step down 15 years from now. The reason is that the current anti corruption in this giant institution needs time to establish the culture and ethics so that the on going establishing anti corruption unit/department can eventually become an independent entity that oversees the institution, like the ICAC in Hong Kong during the mid 1970s which worked wonder for the city.
I can't believe no major news channels are deliberating on this important issue!
Don 't worry. US Congress will pass a new law next week: Chinese Presidential Term Limit Act.
Hahaha, you make my day. A Chinese leaders terms limit act pass in America. Ha, I never thought I would hear that.
Nice to see Fareed is now concerned about China. Didn't hear his concerns when the last administration, did nothing to reign in China...
Don't forget the petro Yuan. Countries are going to be dumping the dollar in the near future.
If citizen want him, what is your problem CNN?
as the world becoming more conflicting, China needs a stable government.
Our President Donald Trump will be just fine, we're praying for him.
You need to do better than nothing.
Out competing people who rely on corruption is the sane way!
Maybe consider our own absolute corruption from both sides of the coin instead always pointing fingers.
How come this vid doesn’t have any captions on? For by the purpose of studying, it’ll be very helpful...
Please post Fareed's segment on the Don Lemon show on 4/2/2018
Paying attention? NOT really. Well, last week, while this news attracted the attention of all world leaders, Trump was tweeting about "Alex" of SNL. A day or two ago, he expressed his admiration to the Chinese-president-for life, and wished the same for the United States. I hope people with the means to make the difference, especially the legislative branch, are watching.
People are paying attention, many of them thoughtful and insightful. Whether anyone in the Oval Office listens to them is another question.
Zakaria is NOT a China expert. He derives his ideas from reading other writers. In fact, he was suspended by CNN for plagiarism. Google it. Should have been fired.
From other writers? No way, nobody else does this.
Yet among your sarcastic "nobody else," how many are paid top-dollar and featured as the lead commentator for CNN? Other writers' ideas should be used to support his points, with credit given to those writers, accordingly. Their ideas shouldn't serve AS Zakaria's points. No worries, though: I realize making a smart-ass sophomore remark is easier than looking up the issues he's had with this.
I'm not sure you have noticed but to talk about such an important subject for less than 4 minutes does not exactly give a lot of room to start quoting others. And it's not like Fareed has no knowledge of his own.
This is a problem with the media because it has to be made fast with soundbites and easily consumed infotainment so that the masses do not lose interest above all.
He could have experts talking about this for hours but would CNN think it is good TV? Would the watchers tune out? Probably.
You'd do a better job yourself in trying to look into what he says and argue against if you think he is wrong.
Hirnlego999 He writes articles, too, you know. And he has spent little time on the ground in China, speaks no mandarin, and displays only very cursory knowledge of China's history. He's an IR generalist, which might be useful to CNN, but can be harmful if people take his observations on China as deeply informed or even credible. The past plagiarism issue, which you are avoiding, also reduces his credibility. And let me add that the analysis he provides on-air should be his own regardless of whether he has time to provide footnotes on-air for supporting ideas. And note: I am not saying that all of which he presents on air does not originate from him.
Again. Still no discussion whether he is wrong or not. Reading alone can result into being extremely knowledgeable, and nothing in this says to me that he has no clue.
It's not Trump level in not even knowing what Brexit is.
I don't think the plagiarism is such a big deal, almost everyone steals one way or another and almost no thoughts are really even original. It's in fact quite common that even the language used or even downright to sentences are constantly repeated by different people. As said, nothing in this indicates that he does not know what he is talking about or that he is, well, bored with the subject.
Fareed is always on the ball. Way to go, Fareed! Thanks for helping us think.
Fareed, you more than anyone, know that the GDP in China ha been artificially inflated for years now; so why even report on it? An otherwise EXCELLENT and informative report (as usual). Thanks for being you!
Dictators have no place in modern society .
none of any non-chinese business, focus back on the debt you owe please
Actually, China has never been really "post-Mao", a high official who does not believe in Mao's strategic ideology would be expelled from his office.
I have over 3 years not seen CNN.
and no one notices that you can ship 2 dollar items from Alibaba for free around the globe. That will kill lots of online shops in other regions of the world as they can not compete with Chinas logistic subsidies.
At CNN we only focus on key issues: Stormy Daniels and Maxine Waters. One is a porn star, not sure which one.
Absolute corruption, that's for sure.
Usually, when a leader from a western country criticizes China, I roll my eyes. But this time, I do wish the leader of the free world say something. Will, he did. "Maybe we'll give that a shot someday," he said, suggesting that perhaps the U.S. will do the same someday. Imagine my disappointment.
IQ45 already congratulated and said the US should perhaps try something like that, too. So yes someone was paying attention, though i don't think that is what Fareed Zakaria ment o_0
I had worried China was going a bit nutty with their aggressive expansion at sea and I think strict social laws, guess they really have turned for the worse.
Wow! How can you mention China’s GDP growth without mentioning the cause: free markets
There is no term limit to General Secretary of the Party as well as commander in chief anyway. Comparing to these two positions, presidency is much less in power. I am worried but not too worried, because they are certainly not adding term limits to those two positions...
I hope people with useful input and view point are paying attention
We're importing because its cheap, can we pay for our own steel ???
dictator in china vs lobbyist in america, fair enogh! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
How about Saudi Arabia? Are they a democracy?
Nope but they don't invade and build structure to islands that are not part of their EEZ, unlike China CCP
Actually, this has been going on for decades. Hard to beat long-range planning skills...
How does the decision of a foreign president concern us?
China has always charted it's own journey and will continue to do so. The West has always disparaged and underestimated China, waiting for it to collapse, for the same reason. Nothing's changed apparently.
Nope.
They have their hands full at the moment.
lol, the so-called term limit only gave you an impression of modernisation of politics, the truth is Jiang Zemin ruled the country even after his retirement, Hu Jintao's power is restricted by Jiang's men and couldn't do any meaningful policymaking. 30 years after the 1982 constitution, the battle between fractions within the party tended to go out of control and no one dare to touch the issue of corruption. Xi basically faced a dilemma when he became the party leader in 2013: consolidating power and changing the bureaucratic system will trigger resentment both from the middle class, officials and the rich, not doing anything means the problem will eventually undermine the reputation of the party. Western media never gives you a full picture in terms of foreign affairs, the view is too restrictive.
We love our 'dictatorship' and we feel happy for you that you are happy with your system.
NOT OVOMIT HOLD HOVERS...THE ARE DELETING FILES AND FABRICATING ALIBIES
What do you want to say ? Does anyone in Washington can do anything to change it ?
Of course Washington is paying attention. Trump thought this was a great idea.
I often felt he was over the top for his short sided views on Putin and Trump. But at least Fareed seems to have learn from it and is now more on top of his analysis.
Listen Fareed, You cannot force a mindset or culture to people. It is the same feeling as someone wants to change the U.S. Where is waghinton now ? Well, home. And it should be.
i'm in China currently, we can feel the tension in the air
No mention of CPEC?
Is anyone paying attention to Singapore and Saudi Arabia?
Cycle to Cadillac before you leave your dream home.
The real question is if anyone is paying attention to CNN? Lol
What about adding the worlds appearance of how we are loosing support. I would not be surprised to see China and other countries simply not exporting to the US. We are a big duyer, but not so big that it will have such a great affect on their budget and corparate loses. But it would just about shut down this country and affect the stock market drasticly.
This video makes me want to buy as much American-made goods as possible
Xi is telling Trump: are you picking a fight with me?
Governments rise and fall and business is business
Unfortunately, India is ranked 87 on the list of International Index of Transparence as opposed to China's 75. A large number of democracies, are ranked even lower on this list after India. Did you pay attention to this fact of corruption in India and other democracies? Would democracy alone fix all problems, such as caste system in India? You work for CNN, but you have always sounded like Indian.
Why should President Trump let any of us know what his actual plans are.
I don’t believe that economic success comes from decentralised political system.
When making choices, making right choices will give you good results and make wrong choice will give you bad results. And it does not matter how many people made the selection.
Today is a world of information and technology, it is not like you are cutting off the world and can only hear what mainstream media and people around you.
So stop making assumptions, your assumption wrong from the beginning.
I don't know if people realize it or not, but this will have future consequences for China and the world unfortunately.
Trump doesn't have time to look out his window at China he's watching TV
What can U.S do to keep China in check.
Fai ... build a wall.
Before 1949 all Chinese emperors have even more absolute life-term powers. So it's a big improvement already.
@gt hya Not true. Many Chinese past dynasties has sustained longer than 200 years. Zhou Dynasty lasted 800+ years, Han dynasty lasted 400+ years, Song dynasty lasted 300+ years, etc ... Even the most corrupted Qing dynasty had lasted 267 years. Only very few Chinese dynasties lasted less than 200 years. China is China. Stop using westerners view to measure China.
I want a batteries not included reboot please.
RIP western economy
China just found a powerful leader they never had before, if they let him go after 2 terms then everything will go down hill from there. Here in the US, we changed president and with trump, we went down hill from there.
Saver
No one called FDR a dictator lmao, he was President for life
No good.they already brought Guyana for 50$ billion.they will move in their navy base.👈👀
I love this guy talking slowly
We knew it was going to be happened, for many years, actually many people in Asia were not surprised.
Attention for what? You are just telling ppl that China is still the same China, gj.
LOL , well I have heard a totally different comment from CNN when 1989.So what? You guys change your mind now?
Xi is visionary, intelligent, and knowledgeable about the world, and is serving the world by putting the proper restraint on Chinese nationalism, as China gradually progresses.
With an excellent leader like him, China will remain rational, methodical, and constructive, and free from war and destruction.
The thieves returned the Chinese relics? - what? - what?
More people should really pay attention to this, before it is too late lel
I think you should focus on what is happening in your country. Your political system has allowed a Maniac to become the ruler of your country.
anyone in the US has absolutely no right to comment on any other country any more.
Nothing to look here, let’s move on..
Censorship on the raise in China.
Thirty years of Xi Jinping is not necessarily a bad thing for China or the world. It all depends on how he rules. Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew was in power for more than 30 years and did an outstanding job. Some of most effective Emperors in Chinese history ruled for decades. Besides, he is 64 now and 30 more years he is going to be 94. I doubt it he will rule beyond 80.
The question should be, is anyone listening to Fareed.
The rocks are in your head!
This should happen In America when we get a democrat president ! Who agrees 👍🇺🇸
Annabel Sernholt
Thanks 🙌
China steel imports to Usa 2%. Trumps isolationism. While china is spreading economically, making huge investments across Asia and Africa.
Creepy
To answer your final question Mr. Zakaria,
No.
Obama considered China the biggest threat, for more information simply google "pivot to Asia".
please free me from this regime.
Germany and Japan prime minister both elected for 4 times. Putin is going to have the 4th chance too. It's just a normal thing in the world. Just chill out
Xi if not perform will definitely forced to be away. He is staying simply because he did the job well.
USA standard of living will become poor as China stop trading with USA. Despite higher tariff, USA people have no other choice, as no country in the world can make things so cheap.
If China wants him, what's the problem?
The propaganda machine is running crazy.
How? During Bush CIA put together a report that by 2020 a major powershift will occur. This is not new, it's just that most of you are not paying attention.
Freed, the China is oneof the oldest civilsations, they lacked leaders before the era of Mao Tze Tung and after his demise grew a string of leaership to prosperity
You cannot challenge them in Education and hand skills, like masons, capentry, electricians, motor mechanics, plumbers, construction workers
They are building their contacts, in Africa, Asia, building ships, to control the sea lanes for trade. They have their own science and technology for economic development.
The US is no match to them these days.
GOING BACK TO THE OLD SYSTEM WITH EMPERORS-ONLY A FEW EMPERORS ARE GOOD ADMINISTRATORS,MANY ARE DEGENERATE
Xi Jinping is a good leader of China, probably one of the most ambitious of all. Him becoming a leader of China for life is more joyful than other new leaders switching after 2 terms. China & people with Chinese background have been waiting for a leader like Xi Jinping to revive the country after the horrific Mao regime. We now accept that China is a Communist state & as long as the Chinese people are opened to opportunities, I don’t see the fuss why Xi Jinping can’t be a leader for life.
ALEX JONES!! Press F if you support Inforwars!
Xi will be 68 when his 2nd term ends... If Trump to run a 2nd term , he will be 74. I feel bad that Obama was not to given a chance (by law) to run a 3rd term. He will certainly beat both major nominees.
in China, our average salary is about 10 cents a day, so rest assured 白皮
China never had any democracy in history. It is an evil country that wants to occupy other lands ..... Tibet, Manchuria, East Turkestan, Mongolia, South China Sea and Formosa already occupied by the Chinese.
Dipak Basu Keep laying!
