    1) The base game is $100..really. $60 would be more fair. This is terribly overpriced, especially considering that...
    2) The plastic environment pieces come in TWO packs at $26 EACH; $52! They should have been included with the base as it feels incomplete without them.
    3) The flying monsters expansion is $20. It's so small (5 pieces and 3 cards) and should be part of the base game.
    4) The William Birkin boss expansion comes in TWO packs at $30 EACH; $60! These should be a single $25 expansion at most.
    5) The Alligator boss expansion has only one extra monster at $40!! This should just be part of the theoretical "Bosses" expansion with the Birkin pieces. That might justify a $35 price tag.
    6) The Survival Horror and B-Sides expansions are $50 each; $100. These are good quality but small enough could easily be one expansion but still not $50, maybe $35 as it's not stand-alone.
    7) The $20 4th Survivor box is again not stand-alone and quite small for the price. If it came with the Survival Horror and B-Sides then altogether they could be a solid single $50 expansion.
    8) The 3 Monster boxes are just plastic pieces and $20 EACH (one has only 4 pieces!!!)! These should all be in ONE box and then it'd be worth it. Maybe $25.
    9) The Alternate Sculpts box is $50! It's just more plastic and should be packaged with the theoretical single Monster Box; that could drive the value to $35.
There's about $180 worth of content here, MAYBE $200 if you wanna push it. All this will actually cost $502. No thanks; there are plenty of much better things to spend my money on.

      I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said.
I backed this at Kickstarter and feel I got a good deal for my money however when I reviewed just this base set no price for retail had been announced.
I don’t think I’d have paid the retail price for this however I still stand by everything I said in the review.
The price doesn’t change how the game plays and value for money is very subjective and is a personal choice.
Is it a good game with some poorly designed components? Yes. Is it good value at retail prices? I don’t think so but others might.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to break everything down.

You do realise you don’t have to buy all that stuff
I’ve just brought the base game that cost me just £90 and man I’m having a blast
The other shit yeah I want, more enemies, 3D models etc but dude just have fun with the base game that will take you like over 2 hours to complete, even added reply value
So just save up man in time but you don’t even need the other stuff, don’t know why you would wanna buy it all in one because yeah that is ridiculous but I do have to disagree with saying it ain’t worth it which it is
Every board game, especially licensed games like this is gonna be more money
It ain’t no DND which yeah is cheaper but man just get the base game, trust me.

I thought there was a lot of wasted space in the boxes too. I ended up making a custom insert (pics on BGG) that housed the core game + survival horror + B-files + 4th survivors + Kickstarter alternative sculpts... and I got everything to fit into the core box!

Great review, this is my first board game and i bought it clearly just for nostalgia. You make good points and the biggest downside is the darkness of the tiles and it is stupid cause they put some nice details and efford just to hide everything, truly a shame. Maybe if someone can replicate or even if Steamforged can give us in pdf file to print brighter tiles and stick them above would be great.
Another problem that i found is that i have no idea how to put together the map with the color coding they use. I understood that the book indicates just if it is dangerous or not the location but i cannot tell what tiles are being used.
    Greetings from Greece!

    • @BlackJackLegacy
      @BlackJackLegacy  Před 5 lety +1

Hi Max and hello to Greece! Yeah the colour coding over the top of the maps does make it a lot harder than it needs to be to see how to build the maps. Here’s Negan did a good job of just having a coloured outline which would have helped. It’s a fun game to play though so once you get past these issues it a good playing experience and does feel like Resident Evil. Thanks for watching and commenting Max. 👍🏼

There is some variety to be fair and the artwork is great - its just difficult to see!

Far too expensive. Especially if you want all the expansion packs.

When I reviewed this I hadn’t seen a retail price as I backed the Kickstarter however now I have seen it it’s more expensive than I expected however cost and value are subjective so my review still stands but whether you think it’s expensive is a personal choice.

Not sure what you mean? Do you mean there’s no female characters in the game?

I’ve not seen a retail price for it yet. I got it at Kickstarter so unsure of what it will retail for however the ones I’ve seen for sale are people trying to cash in their Kickstarter copies before it’s available later this month. Thanks for watching John.

It’s still a good game but sadly a few poor choices of components let it down.

The quality of the tiles and components is in the main pretty good. Just a few strange choices on being a little dark and those thin wall tokens. The game itself is great and the minis are great as far as board game single piece minis go.

Yeah definitely. I never said they were poor quality - more strange design choices.

It's a dog shit game, truly terrible. Completely luck based and unbelievably dull. And this is coming from a huge Resident Evil 2 fan.

    • @BlackJackLegacy
      @BlackJackLegacy  Před 5 lety

I wouldnt say it was that bad but its all about opinions. As for luck based most dungeon crawlers are really. Just depends on the order the cards come out and what the dice rolls are however that can also be fun and add replayability to a game.

Tbh. Steamforged games are riding old glory ship, but most of their games are quite bad...starting with DS fiasco. They just milk popular IPs, while gameplay itself usueally leaves much to be desired with.

I never played DS so can’t really comment on that as a game or as a project however I’m aware of the delays etc. Overall I’m happy I backed the Kickstarter. I enjoy the game and what I got for my money I’m pretty happy. I’m not sure I could say the same if I’d picked this up at retail however.
