This is my experience with my Gibson Les Paul Special loaded with P90 pickups. Buyer's remorse is a real thing and has happened to me a lot over the years. Here's how I feel about my most recent guitar a month after the fact.

I'd have buyer's remorse. They made it completely backwards!
I can't believe you didn't notice that.
Jokes
The guitar only looks backwards because this was filmed in Australia with the camera upside down so that it'd appear right side up to normal people.
@@Tomcat82 you took a good joke and made it even better.....I tip my hat to you sir.
You guys have me rolling right now...LMAO:))))
That’s the Jimi Hendrix signature model.
That tone...is simply...unreal...I mean to me it is perfect.
Thanks, Paul! :)
You can thank the amp for that
beef nacos you know what, I do get that, and of course the way Shane handles her, but still I thought it was just Awesome.
@@beefnacos6258 Partly. Gibson isn't great at making straight production guitars, but in a world of P90s, lollar for polite, Gibson for growl. Their p-90s are great.
@@paulcasilio1119 Me too!
Sounds effin phenomenal. Love the chewy grit and clarity on solos. That’s a keeper, especially when the custom shop is asking nearly vintage prices for their version...$4000+!
Man! you are a versatile player! And I appreciate that you include clean tones and not just distortion up the ying yang like at least 95% of demonstrators do.
I was on the fence for a while with one sitting in my cart a sweetwater. pulled the trigger after your last video and absolutely love this guitar. I bough the American Original Tele a couple of years ago based on your review and now the LP special. you are a treasure..keep up the good work. I value your honest opinion!
stanley stevens The video’s title is simply “click bait”
Just picked up my new junior yesterday. So glad Gibson are making Jr’s and specials now to the original specs that people have been screaming for. The fit and finish, QC on mine was top notch. The only thing I could pick on was a little bit of polishing residue was left on the headstock and bottom of the fretboard. I’ve wanted a sunburst Jr for so long and Gibson have done it right this time. Oh, and that fresh nitro smell is something else.
Look's like a match! Glad you're enjoying it, Shane. Looking forward to future tone tests with it!
Great tones Shane especially in that middle position- sounded like the tone from "Hold on loosely" from 38 special. What a great guitar it sounds like it wants to be played live! And loud!
Nice guitar man! I still smile every time i plug in my P90 Les Paul. The volume knob is now my best friend!!
I had a Les Paul tribute with 90's... some of my favorite tones! Love this review! Tones are awesome!
i'm right there with you at 13:50 - same here. i now have 2 Gibsons, after avoiding them for a long time. really impressed with the tone of that one!!
I am loving your playing on this video! So good!
I Just got a 2019 Gibson LP Spec Trib DC. Love it! So many times from just two P90s! I haven't been able to put it down! Wish it had binding on the neck but oh well, it still kicks so much ass!
Just an update: I did get the epi LP Special after watching a few videos comparing it to the Gibson. I haven't played a les paul since the heritage I had in 1991. And never played p90s either. Well, they did a very good job on this one. Pretty much perfect out of the box, good setup and fret work, finish, tuners, all first rate. As good as the Gibson? I can't say, but it ticks all the boxes for a Special. You should do a review and maybe they'll send you one. I think you'd be impressed.
I've got an epiphone custom shop reissue 59 junior in TV yellow. I love these things man you're playing great today Shane thanks for the show
Sweet guitar dude! Given my recollection of your description in the disparity of the USD to the AUD it must have come at a dear price. Many happy playing hours. Cheers!
One of my fav videos Shane. Thanks. More like this to come please. Thanks again!!!
Great tone Shane. I'm a big fan of P90s. They really are incredibly versatile and cover pretty well all the bases. I bought an Epiphone Les Paul '56 Gold Top about five years ago and love it to bits. I play mostly Blues but it's great for Jazz and Rock too. Keep up the good work 😉
Loving the p90 in my tele neck that was added recently, just such an amazing tone. Glad they are coming back in fashion. The LP sounds amazing mate, glad you are keeping it!
Hey Shane, you made me spend money, can't live without one of these. Great playing and sound as allways!
Hi Shane, that is a really cool guitar! I have a gibson sg standard lefty, with p90s and I absolutely love it!
thanks for always sharing great content on your videos!
Wow, that neck pickup touches my soul. So perfect sounding. Killer playing too. Love your channel.
Very nice! I have heard a lot of great stuff about this LP Special. I have an older LP Special transparent wine red with high gloss finish and the same P-90's.....it plays great! Glad to see these are getting their just due! I love Gibson guitars!!!!
Beautiful! I've recently fell in love with P90 pickups after struggling to make them sound good. Something just clicked this year and I now love them
I own the actual guitar Shane is playing in the video(bought it off the guy Shane sold it to) and even though it is amazing guitar, the P90’s have taken awhile to bond with. I initially found them very hard sounding, one dimensional and middy compared to my humbuckers, but they are starting to click and I’m liking them more and more every day.
I've been trying to love them for 20 years. I always love how other ppl use them. It's only last year when I I picked up a double cut Jr that I finally fell in love with them
When these first came out in 2019, my local shop asked me what I was interested in. I said a Les Paul special and a Jr. First I played the Special, it was great. Then came the Junior. Love at first play. I love P90 pick-ups. They are very unique in sound.
Do you think the P90s sound better than a reg single coil?
The tones coming out of that thing were beautiful, as were your licks. It's a nice looking LP but the wood grain in the fretboard is amazing. Looks like the factory QC was top notch.
...for a change......
Very happy with mine also. Nut just needed a few file strokes.
Great playing, great tones, excellent demo as usual Shane. BTW, the TV yellow against a light blue shirt looks amazing. Anyway, I bought one and love it too! It's truly a 'special' guitar.
Very nice! I love this guitar! Great playing on your part! I want one now hahaha! The tone is amazing........nice crunch yet cleans up so well when volume is rolled back.
That is a super looking guitar, Great sound out of those P-90s. About 1 1/2 years ago my son bought a 2015 Gibson LP Special Double-cut P90s that was being sold on the big on-line stores heavily discounted to $500 free shipping in a really nice case. I think he got it from Sweetwater. But it had the terrible robo tuners and the metal nut. The bridge/tailpiece wasn't easy to intonate. But he swapped in some good machine heads and a Hipshot adjustable bridge and it turned out to be his favorite gigging guitar. Keep those great videos coming.
This video was awesome. Enjoyed watching you stretch your legs on this guitar. I preordered the 2020 epiphone version which ships in a few months. Would love to see a shootout between the Gibson and Epiphone versions!
the smile at 0:21 told me everything i need to know
Really nice guitar. If I could only have one guitar I'd trade my Strat for that. Never been a fan of LPs, but the lighter body and P90s make me want one too.
That's an amazing sounding guitar! Thank you for this great run-through!
This guitar absolutely rocks. The first minute of the video completely entranced me with its excellent tone. Glad it's so light, too.
I have one, too. They sound fantastic and are easy to play, because of the short scale length. The P90 brings much of the liveliness of a Strat, but with more beef.
perfectly described. I had one too in the early 2000's. It was a fantastic guitar. I really wish I still owned it.
@@thebluesrockersmaybe you can find a good 2nd hand one around ?
@@NisseOhlsen I'm to poor these days. I did however order a Squire Sonic and I've been considering putting a P-90 pickup in the bridge. Because those work great for slide guitar. I play "In My Time Of Dying & When The Levee Breaks." They sounded awesome in my Les Paul. You're has that classic vibe look to it in the yellow. Very nice.
@@thebluesrockers I see that they have become expensive as used one, too. Good luck with the incoming Sonic !
@@NisseOhlsen Thanks, I've currently been having a hard time of with Sweetwater. I ordered it on the 5th. I paid $100.00 for their 55 point inspection and asked them to fix the intonation on it, with my new 10's.
They called me up the 10th and cancelled my 55 point inspection. I had to call them again today to have them ship it out to me.
10 days to get a guitar that's only 130 miles from me. It hasn't been a good experience to say the least. I sure hope I don't receive a lemon. But at this point I wouldn't be surprised. I bet I'll have to fix everything or be out $45.00 to ship it back.
I actually like the LP special more than the Standard LP
100%. Both for versatility & playability.
p90s!!!!!
I TOO, think that was the best tone I've heard on your vids....WOW!
The joy of onwing one guitar. I could live with that one.
My lefty's en route. super excited to get it. Thanks for another great review and demo.
She sounds great. The p 90's have tonal character. The overall tones are very pleasing to the ear kneck or bridge. Pleasant to squeeze on any rainy day.
I love the P-90s. Never had a guitar with them because of the lefty thing. Might have to look into this. I like it better than my L.P. Standards from over the years.
So Wicked!!Shane thanks for playing ‘tis amazing LesPaulSpecial TVYellow 🤟🏼I’m planning to purchase a Lefty LPS myself ,I heard Gibson is also producing the LesPaul 50s Gold Top BurstBuckers on Lefty hopefully you can get your hands on one and do a review also..Keep On Rockin’!!✌🏼
Dude, that sounds amazingly good. I mean just flawless. I have buyer's remorse that I didn't buy one yet!
I sure love the sound of those P90 pickups. I just might get a guitar with those but will take my time to find the right one for me when the situation allows trying them out.
That guitar sounds brilliant. Congratulations Shane!
Always enjoy your playing brother. Hope all is well. This vid makes me more inclined to check out P90s.
The best part about P90s in a Les Paul is the massive amount of frequency variation with the tone knobs.
I was positive you didn't have buyer's remorse ! They are awesome ! Great demo and review as always mate ! 😎🎸🤘
I've owned this same guitar for the past 6 months and it definitely has been my go to guitar. It does everything I want to hear and feel, just awesome. I own/owned some great guitars but this is the one I'd grab if the house was burning down.
Couldn't agree more!
The guitar sounds great, Shane. Question : If you have experience with it, your opinion on the "Hum Debugger" pedal? As a possible solution to the single coil hum?
That guitar has some killer sounds and great playing Shane. Putting some Ideas in my head.
So cool you are demonstrating lefties. Being a left handed guitar player it's great to see these.
Killer demo! Went out and purchased one! Thank man!
Now that is the sound of rock.
That’s the best tone I’ve heard from a les Paul in many years. It’s incredible.
I absolutely love that guitar. Wow! I just got a Gibson LP Special Tribute DC, and I wonder if there would be any real difference in the TONES between these ? Might be a good comparison!
After years and years of my journey to find the perfect guitar, I found it/her, my Les Paul Special, two years ago by switching it via ebay with my Highway1 Strat (after lots of guitars, even a Gibson Les Paul Studio, a Firebird, a Hagstrom P90 ....), and I can not comment your beautiful video in any other way than to say: You absolutely nailed it! Thank you! ❤🎉
Seems that the 2020 Specials/Juniors come strung with 10s, whereas the 2019 guitars (certainly the 2019 Les Paul Junior Double Cut that I have came strung with 9s). But, yeah, got to love the sound of the P90s on these guitars - my Double Cut absolutely rips through my AC15 with a drive/distortion pedal combo added in the chain. Great playing Shane and fantastic sounds - cheers.
Glad I watched your video... now I feel a lot more confident about pulling the trigger on one of these. That thing sounds amazing
I love P90! If you ever want to get rid of the hum get a electro-harmonix debugger it takes out the noise even in extreme situations
I've been following your channel for years, and saw this when it it came out, I'm a lefty and your taste in guitars echo's my own, I have a V like yours, and the Tele 50's, like yours, and this one has been on my bucket list , pulled the trigger a couple weeks ago at Sweetwater on my own lefty Special TV yellow. and yes it's a keeper... mine was made in November of 2023 and it's wonderful!!! On a side note, I love your tasteful playing, but even being a lefty player myself, it's harder to figure out what you are playing, I guess because I'm so used to watching right handed players and transposing in my head the notes to lefty. Anyway, I feel like I know you, great stuff man.
I have the LP special tribute and absolutely love it! Sounds the same , great feel and for $1000!
ive been a les paul player since 1976, that said i played standards. never say these for sale at a music store in the 70s or 80s. i bought one of these couple months ago and im blown away with the sound. love everthing about this guitar
Thats some righteous playing and the tones are fabulous. Great review, showing the versatility of this guitar
You just look so pleased, so I am pleased 4 you! U Rock Shane!
last year I bought the 2018 special run of SG jr , it wasn't cheap
but it's worth every dime
your special looks and sounds AMAZING!!
6:05 to 6:10 - now that's just a great noise. Awesome video man.
Beautiful axe ! She sounds GREAT ! Nice score bro . Cool vid . Well done as usual .
The title had me worried! Yeh, you can squeeze some tones out of that one. Glad it’s working for you!
@intheblues I'm having a difficult decision between getting the PRS ce 24 or this guitar.... What would you recommend?
Great video and demo! Les Paul's are cool but not high on my list (I am a Gibson fan though. I do like SGs and Firebirds ) but this is one Les Paul I wouldn't mind having! Nice playing and tones!
Awesome! gonna get me one. Thanks for the demo!
If you want more intonation adjustment there are replacement wrap-around bridges with adjustable saddles built in.
Hi Shane. Really enjoy your channel (and your accent😇).
Just bought the HB te-52 na and it is ok for the pricepoint. But...I noticed that the Roswell neck pickup alone does not transmit overtones when played at the 5. fret. Works fine when I include bridge pu. Do yours play same way or is it a faulty pu?
Thanks.
Ps I am Danish, living in Copenhagen
Like that little Owner of a Lonely heart lick, that was huge when I was in high school!!
I think that your video is incredibly helpful. I just put one on layaway, more out of instinct than anything else. I’ve and have been second guessing that at the beginning stage of the sale. Your tones and playing helps. I’m keeping it.
That’s a beauty! Love your videos man!
I had the DC faded version years ago, brilliant guitar. I ended up selling it, wish I hadn’t. When these guitars are set up well they are unbeatable
Fixin to buy one, Shane; so I came to see yours cuz I enjoy your live shows. Hey, mate, you make that guitar ROCK HARD . . . Thanks for all your work for us!! BTW, I'm really a Fender USA snob; playin almost exclusively my Oly White 2017 Jeff Beck Artist Stratocaster ( after a dozen JB Strats over the years since they were 1st released, im 1991. G'Day!
My experience so far with Gibson lefties - the pots are wrong-way-round. Strange, my Epiphones are OK with regard to the pots. If you only have one guitar, backwards pots are all right (you get used to it), but switching back and forth is a pain.
hi shane ...how does the epi ? or tokai versions stack up ? Is there any BIG discernable diff ? That things sounds BEASTLY .
P90's just have soul! Even if you don't dial in your sound exactly right they still sound good. So they're forgiving too!
It looks great, and the tone is excellent, but the best tone I’ve heard from you on this channel is from your Flying V. That’s the opinion of me and my Bose headphones, and we’re sticking to it.
I love it! I used to have an LP with P90s, but replaced them with DiMarzios (early 80s). This one sounds rocky enough!
Great tones , beautiful guitar!
Absolute beast brother! You have inspired me to lay by the exact same lefty model from SKY music in Melbs, cheers!
Awesome job on this & I agree it sounds great !!
Shane, in another video, you mentioned that you don't like vintage frets. I've read that Gibson has switched to somewhat smaller frets on the 2019 Original Series guitars. How are you liking the frets on your Special?
Great review. Much appreciated!
Just an aesthetic question, what’s the model difference between these and the “faded” thin finish versions with the very evident grain peaking through the finish. Are these ones pore filled? I like the thinner finished ones better, but it sounds great!
Love the sound of that axe man love the simplistic look I prefer that over 5k 10 top that I’m too afraid to ding
Love the videos mate, so come on how much gear have you bought and taken back within a few days, unfortunately it happens because you can’t get a good feeling until you get it home and give it a good play, I just bought my dream guitar Gibson Lp standard and having serious second thought, please don’t tell me I’m alone.
Excellent video and playing. God bless.
I've got an Epiphone Les Paul Ltd Ed Special with P90 pickups. It has only one volume knob and one tone knob and the selector switch is between them. It is a Worn Yellow Nickle and one can see the grain in the wood. It's a Great guitar and that sound from the P90s sets it apart from all the rest. . . . yep . . .
I'm a lefty too. Really torn between this or the Les Paul Junior at the moment!
Which do you prefer?
Love my 2019 TV Special! HIGHLY recommended!
i can't wait for mine to come in! Some time in a few weeks it should be coming in!!!
Man i have been looking at those too. But kindof decided not to when the prices went up. No more $799 deals on GC holidays. I have other P90 guitars so that will have to do for now. Wonder what changed in them if anything for the price hike.
Looking at trying one. First I would suggest that you pull the PUs and see if it has been shielded. Gibson is know not to use shielding in their guitars. Its very inexpensive to do yourself with a paint brush and done is no time. Love the versatility of the 90's. Love those killer clean tones. Nice demo Thanks!
I just got a 2019 tv yellow and its a excellent guitar. Nothing negative about it. Quality is five star plus.
Awesome guitar. Sounds great! NOTE: As of 2.29.2020, the Sweetwater link isn't taking me to the guitar here in the States. Hope that helps. In fact, now that I look at it, the "guitar gear" link in the description doesn't appear to go to your gear, unless I'm missing something.
