      I lost my father when I was 12 also in 1973, I didn't find him but he was killed in a drunk-driving accident. My mother had already separated from him when I was 8, and he was taking care of my brother and I. After that, I became an alcoholic/drug addict, and started shooting coke in the early 80s and started shooting heroin in 84! I have finally gotten clean 3.5 years now and I'm still married to my saint of a wife for 29 years! I have to give the glory to Jesus Christ who also stopped me from drinking over 20 years ago and tobacco 13 years ago! Sorry for the book Chrissy, but your story made me want to tell mine! God bless you and your husband and congratulations on being clean, 10 years is AMAZING!

    His self-awareness has me dumbfounded... he’s not the most articulate because of the way he grew up, but he is in fact quite intelligent and has a lot of potential.
    The point when he said that he couldn’t do it alone, I felt that. Like all the other folks, he’s a product of the way he grew up and the people that surrounded him throughout his life.
    Sometimes we take for granted just smiling at someone or offering little gestures of kindness. He seems like he needs to be shown genuine love and kindness to change his perspective on life a bit, so that he may be able to give himself the chance he deserves to get a fresh start.
    I absolutely love these interviews. They’re all people just like us, but most of them are broken because of their terrible childhoods or past traumas or events that occurred that scarred them and led them to depend on substances to find refuge.
    But I must admit, sometimes I feel emotionally overwhelmed and depressed after watching them because I wish I was in a position to offer some real help ☹️

      Mike skaronis: you are actually quite wrong that this guy doesnt have a lot to offer and I don't think nature zone's comment meant that he admires this guy. The most effective programs to help youth offenders are the OG gang bangers that have done hard time and see the light of how futile that lifestyle is and want to share their story and guide them. He might be the only person able to reach some of these kids. I do have my doubts about what's exactly going on with this guy, he has an odd way of presenting himself, odd mannerisms and interactions,and speech patterns which lead me to wonder if he's also got some issues with schizophrenia and might not be as involved in gangs as he states, but whatever, I'll take what he says at face value...Problem is, it sounds like the kids he going to "coach" are already in a gang...and trying to get someone out, respecially at close range really is against the rules. you want to talk to kids before they get in the gang, when or before they are starting to have problems coping and getting into trouble is the most effective

      I agree. I have 1 ex that has a hard tough guy exterior and comes across as harsh, but to me he was always an open book, easy going and not intimidating. Chemistry explains a lot. My ex is still an addict, it's sad, he has 5 kids with 5 different women, yikes. Glad I didn't stay around to see any of that mess, I have no children with him, thank goodness. He just hasn't ever straightened out, he just can't and I don't need to know why.

    At the beginning of the interview he was very suspicious about the simplest questions. Then he settled down. He needed to find out what was up. He really is a cool guy. I think it was surprising to him that somebody was interested in him. That just one person to another can sit and talk and not try to run some scam on him. Others especially youngsters could benefit greatly having a big brother like him.

    • @softshoedancer
      @softshoedancer Před 4 lety +21

      @Jonathon Cole yes I understand where you are coming from, and I do try to take responsibility for my mistakes. The issue for me growing up was that I had absolutely zero guidance from any male. I grew up very unsure about my masculinity, I didn't know how to present myself as a man, I'd never seen how one handles oneself socially as a male. It made me very insecure, and I ended up having a way blown out of proportion ideal of masculinity, totally over the top, where I felt like I should always be fighting, selling drugs, and be willing to "prove myself" by taking drugs others feared to take, which led to a 13 year heroin habit. I take responsibility for it, but there is no question that not having a father set me on that path. That's just an objective fact, and frankly I'm not too bothered whether anyone agrees with it or not.

It’s all a process some learn early in life and some later and some never, have compassion.

In this interview he is curating the experience so only certain answers are voiced by those being interviewed
