The Harlem 30 Crips are a notorious hood on the west side of South Central. He came to Los Angeles in 1979 when the Crips began having wars against one another(Gangster Crips vs Nayborhood Crips). That same year the founder Raymond Washington was killed. That was a huge change for a country boy to come into the hub of gangbanging, South Central Los Angeles, as a teenager. He's in good shape because in prison you have to program. That often includes a daily workout regimen. It's not only for their physical health but more so for their mental health, to have a routine. He's just maintained it outside of prison. I'm happy to hear he's off papers. He'll kick the habit when he's mentally ready and sick of all the bullshit.

CO's will let SHU programmers out for "yard" (if you can call it that, it's really just a cell with extremely high walls open to the sky above) - but what they'd do would be to release people who have to get down with each other on sight, due to prison politics. this could be a northerner and a southerner, a black and a white, etc. they do this intentionally, and gamble on the winner. again though, this is happening as i write this. it never ended. same goes for california youth authority. gladiator fights never ended.

Trauma tends to do that to people. I agree, it’s so sad

@@rottie615 It doesn't matter the trauma. People go through very hard and questionable times and become normal civilized people. It's all about choice and how to handle that choice yourself. Some people are simpletons and don't know that the world is a bigger place than their thought process makes it up to be. Don't let trauma discourage on how to handle your actions wisely. If you do, then what you did might make up more than your past traumas will ever do to you. Which can mostly be bad.

Temp sikandersucksKilla a lot of people that experience trauma do not have access to the things needed to get their self together. With any trauma yhu need to see a therapist but guess what .. that cost ! And not everyone has money . & also everyone can fight the same war but everyone won’t have the same scars some might not even get scared. Let those words sink in

It took him his whole life to get it right but seems like he is on his way down the right road at least. I have never been on drugs but have a brother that is but if he get in some kind of program or better get that WANT to STOP the drugs I feel like he would be a good dad and a good person. He has just let the world take his mind but he is waking up and trying to do better. You have to give a person credit for that. They have to start somewhere.

My dad started working as a maintenance mechanic at Corcoran when they first opened in 88 or 89, he was a certified welder. He was older then and retired in 94. He used to teach inmates how to weld. He enjoyed that part of it. I didn't hear too many stories, but I do recall him talking about those corrupt CO's betting on those fights. Big news story. Manson was there then as well and had got caught sending messages back and forth to his followers via the back of TV sets. I believe that's why he retired so early - he couldn't take the corruption. Thank you Mark for what you are doing on this platform. You are doing important work letting folks share their stories. We need more compassion in this world.

This man reminds me of a uncle I had. He is gone now. But he did live his last days a free man and he was clean. He had been in and out of jail so much that he was more comfortable in jail then out. Hope this man will find peace and the ability to get clean. Also to not blame the system or the "man" for his actions is admirable because most people today always blame others for their problems.
