Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland burst onto the stage in 2011 in an explosion of colour, stage magic and inventive, sophisticated choreography. Joby Talbot’s score combines contemporary soundworlds with sweeping melodies that gesture to ballet scores of the 19th century. Bob Crowley’s wildly imaginative, eye-popping designs draw on everything from puppetry to projections to make Wonderland wonderfully real.
Alice encounters a cast of extraordinary and instantly recognizable characters, from the highly strung Queen of Hearts - who performs a hilarious send-up of The Sleeping Beauty’s famous Rose Adage - to a playing card corps de ballet, a sinuous caterpillar and a tap-dancing Mad Hatter. But the ballet does not avoid the darker undercurrents of Lewis Carroll’s story: a nightmarish kitchen, an eerily disembodied Cheshire Cat and the unhinged tea party are all here in vivid detail. The delicious result shows The Royal Ballet at its best, bringing together world-class dance with enchanting family entertainment.

It's really not surprising that the best dance scene in the movie happens to be the only one that was put together by an actual dancer. Steven McRae also insisted on using the original stage show backing track instead of the remixed garbage they used for the rest of it. I'll say this for Steven McRae, he knows his stuff; he knows exactly what a dance number should look and sound like.

Like, it's a bizarre world where the best singing performances come from the dancers, but because he clearly went into it with the beat and the rhythm in mind, he didn't get caught up in improvising like so many of the other performances did, and it worked WONDERFULLY.

He was basically the only person there who actually knew what he was doing and what a dance number should look like. Dance was the first thing i was really invested in. But being super neglected and abused there was No future for me let alone as a dancer... So i decorated dolls discarded by other people... eventually people who had been discarded or neglectwd the way I was > I found a Mad Hatter Hat that was Trashed reciently And I couldnt leave it. I probally looked like the mad hatter with it >>> Anyway it too is getting restored and given a new life. I on the other hand am still unwanted.

Essy Chilcutte I know I’m late and I don’t know you but you are certainly not waisted. As long as you have something that gives you satisfaction- restoring things to a better condition, you have purpose and are important because without you those things would not be beautiful again.

I wish she'd just let him finish answering her questions and stop anticipating what he's going to say. It's bloody annoying.
