Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland burst onto the stage in 2011 in an explosion of colour, stage magic and inventive, sophisticated choreography. Joby Talbot’s score combines contemporary soundworlds with sweeping melodies that gesture to ballet scores of the 19th century. Bob Crowley’s wildly imaginative, eye-popping designs draw on everything from puppetry to projections to make Wonderland wonderfully real.
Alice encounters a cast of extraordinary and instantly recognizable characters, from the highly strung Queen of Hearts - who performs a hilarious send-up of The Sleeping Beauty’s famous Rose Adage - to a playing card corps de ballet, a sinuous caterpillar and a tap-dancing Mad Hatter. But the ballet does not avoid the darker undercurrents of Lewis Carroll’s story: a nightmarish kitchen, an eerily disembodied Cheshire Cat and the unhinged tea party are all here in vivid detail. The delicious result shows The Royal Ballet at its best, bringing together world-class dance with enchanting family entertainment. - Zábava
this is exactly the kind of instructor I need to work with best:
- corrects immediately
- explains why he corrects
- explains in visuals
- is very vocal
- praises (to boost morale)
I know I thought that he's so positive and on the ball with what he wants

WTF
Yeeesss, instructors that are tough but not mean are the best
Especially to the men 😂
No one asked
I love how not synchronized yet synchronized everything is
Yeah. I feel like it just makes everything extra chaotic
everyones unorganized but to the beat. Kind of like the Mad Hatter except everyone involved are fleeting illustrations of what the Queen's court is all about and arent true characters to the story
Angela Liu but thats kinda the vibe they were going for
Makes sense because this is supposed to be like the shuffling of cards
ikr!
I have to say, the Ballet Master is one of the most empathetic instructors I’ve seen. It honestly seems like he understands that the dance is difficult, and that these dancers are trying their hardest. It’s honestly amazing to watch
Fun fact:I think he was the king
I feel because it's such a funky piece, quite a few steps are against their learned movements
@@Virtual_Imageexe he was
Does anyone know his name
@@lonettehistoria1663 Christopher Saunders

i read this comment as he said it lmao

I love this teacher he doesn’t have to shout at them and be super mean to get what he needs from the dancers
Carleigh Nielsen he had to shout so they can all hear him
@@jadewaters4555 I think Carleigh meant that he's not being aggressive or rude like many other dance teachers.
I agree. He's a teacher that motivates you the right way.
I mean they’re all adults and this is their job so it would be strange if he had to be aggressive to make them do that he needed
@@Bulhbluhbuy Dance instructors have a reputation for being nasty
Have anyone noticed the piano player? I was totally amaze by his/her skills and how he had caught up with dacers and instructor's order in literally every second.
Dier Luo yes the piano player is amazing
They are all exceptionally talented, which probably goes some way to explaining why getting a ticket to see one of these performances will set your back like £300 or something
jastat bit exaggerated, great seats are 130£, you can find good seats for 60
*has and *amazed and *dancers
With the piano the music sounds like Shostakovich, but with the orchestra, the music is harrowing
"don't open your mouth just stick out your tongue" *girl immediately opens her mouth*
Ik that bugged me so much
I know that from my experience in ballet you are concentrating on many things at once and sometimes you’re barely able to take in every correction the instructor makes at once.
If you noticed in 1:35. She supposed to do that...
Look, let's put the ladies numbers. 1 to 8.
Starting from the right with the blonde one (Natalie Harrison). The 1, 3, 5 and 7 had to pull the tongue out, following the music and once the first one did it, the 3rd one did it, consecutively and then 8, 6, 4, and 2 to had to open their mouths with the tongue out.
So when Ballerina no. 2 (Leti Stock) opened her mouth, it was her turn. She wasn't messing up.
I've honestly done that exact same thing when people tell me not too, just because my brain is so fried.
IKR. I came here to find this comment! It was driving me crazy 😂
“My hips aren’t that wide” 😂

Yahhhhh
BTS ARMYS INFIRES oh my god I was hoping someone wood comment this! 😂
I love how patient he is with the students, he doesn’t yell or do anything to make the dancers feel uncomfortable. This is what a teacher should do, and it’s obvious that all the students respect him with is also a huge part of class.
I’m pretty sure they are company dancers
Yeah because professional ballet dancers who get paid to dance and perform everyday are called "students" aha.
7:10 those jumps were LIGHTER THAN AIR.
He makes it look so easy
@LaFleur What are their names? The men?
The moment you realize the instructor is the man who plays the King of Hearts... wow, I nearly couldn't recognize. Such a great dancer, actor and instructor.
I have no idea how I got here from watching tornado videos, but I'm pleased.
luhole MEEE Although I do ballet so it makes sense but tornados are interesting to watch 😂
luhole because dancers spin and turn like tornadoes? XD
luhole
Same but I was watching Hell's Kitchen
Welcome traveller!
man u really have been around the block, haven't you? lolol
I love the 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil' bit. That was clever
It's amazing how dancers improve so fast after being verbally instructed. So pro
The girl in the green Leo is perfect for this
It’s the looks and the perfect movement for me
Yes! That is Camille Bracher - she is amazing!
it always amazes me how the dancers correct themselves to the instructor mid-dance while still remembering choreo, placing and the instructions they were given before.
Yesssss! I was thinking the same thing!
I have to mention, I really love the videos where Christopher Saunders is running the rehearsal. His instructions are clear and constructive, and he adds a little humor. Seems like a lovely teacher and person to work with.

Just the noise is a mood
Hahaha glad someone noticed it too
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH

This reads manic anxiety and there's so much to see in the beginning that my mind almost exploded
I believe I've figured out which dancer is Rocco's mother. What a wild search that was!
Who is it?
I’ve been searching for her for ages! All I can say is she has wonderful fashion sense!
Who is Rocco
@@heyryanisonx3141 I'm guessing Rocco is her child. ;) I didn't even remember making my original comment! Haha! (There's a woman in a leo that says, "Rocco's Mom.") My original comment was supposed to be a joke... But reading it back after a few years, it was clearly a Dad joke.
@@SmittenKitten. What’s her name?
man this is fast and weird, it seems pretty dahm difficult to coordinate plus all the weird movements added in
Entraya Crosshill I'm a competition dancer, and I've had one or two dances in a similar style. It can be really hard but after doing it enough you have muscle memory of the dance.
Entraya Crosshill it is ballet it is supposed to look almost unreal and extremely complicated

Ikr it looked hella fast
Yeah. The dance seemed really chaotic and all over the place
@@angelaliu1976 That of course is the point!
I can't even describe how excited it makes me to watch this rehearsal! Something about the music, the pacing, the speed and staccato beat of the choreography- it just makes me feel a bit giddy! 😊 So much respect for these amazing dancers and their incredible director! 💗
Same here!
Its really epic
Gosh they have to remember so much including corrections!
When is this coming to America? 'Cause I can't afford a trip to England for a night at the ballet. Much appreciated,

Nancy S
I’m British and live in England so...
The royal ballet is English 😂
For anyone wondering this is the dance of the cards from Alice and wonderland, it’s supposed to be weird and erratic in movement
I absolutely adore the girl in the dark green leotard and Blond bangs
The instructor seems so lovely. Makes me miss ballet.
The amount of detail that goes into this leaves me with a new appreciation for ballet.
"And down is not just with the eyelids"😂
This rehearsal is full of great funny statements from the instructor (who btw is wonderful, encouraging, vocal, giving good constructive corrections, not tearing anyone down)
Girl in the dark green is fantastic
I've watched this in it's entirety about 20 times and my eyes *always* go to the blonde in dark green oh my GOSH. Admittedly, the camera shows mostly the stage right side, but STILL. Her attitude and flair is so flawless I LOVE it!!! (Also, the blonde in royal blue, particularly at 1:44 deserves a shoutout for the same reason *y a s* )
Those card skirts were such a fantastic idea.
i love how nice he is he corrects and doesn't try to embarrass anyone like some instructors
Love this older gentleman the is directing the rehearsals I would love to meet him.
Does anyone know his name?
Molly Brown his name is Christopher Saunders, he is the Ballet Master. 😊
Ballet men are the best kind of men, their muscles and their grace is such a nice combo!

One can appreciate any great athletic endeavour, especially one is especially purposed to being watched as ballet is.

Christopher Saunders is truly sensational. And this ballet is genius.
6:57 The 2 women I. The middle who are wearing pink and the other wearing purple, their steps are absolutely on point. But credit to all of them for being such good dancers and being so on point
Dear Kevin (Ballet Director) and your wonderful staff, we are very happy to have the oportunity to see this great company here from Brazil!

Can we just have some appreciation for the musician picking up and playing so well
A few are still opening their mouths when they stick their tongue out lol 😝
I love this production of Alice in Wonderland. The company really gets put through it's paces in this one.
The girl in the green leotard is so pretty!
I love how aggressive this is
Massive talent on display.
I love how the Ballet Master pays such close attention to detail. This was extremely educational to watch as someone who knows nothing about ballet.
7:32 onwards reminds me of Nightmare Before Christmas 'Making Christmas' music score
Isabelle Brant i thought i was the only one who noticed!!
Oh good I’m not the only one
I love it. I want to watch a ballet from the Royal Opera House so bad but I live far away. Also I would gladly watch the rehearsal for a full day.
Love watching this I could watch rehearsals all day
I love how a woman has a shirt that says Rocco’s mum
I'm usually not a big fan of contemporary ballet, but this looks very interesting. The ballet master is quite compelling also. He's able to give concise corrections without being hateful. That's a talent in itself!!.
My goodness what an opening! I really want to see this performance live now
I love the red stitching on the black leo that one girl is wearing
Great - what a long time since I danced any ballet (not professional) but I love it and this ballet especially. I could not believe how enjoyable anything could be when I and a friend went to see it one afternoon just after it had first been performed . The backcloths, the characters, the way things had been made, and the special effects, are so marvelous you have to concentrate a little harder than usual on the dance and the story. The music is brilliant. This look at some of the rehearsals is interesting. What hard work but, as a person watching the ballet, it certainly pays off. It must be a thoroughly exhausting ballet to dance - aren't they all? What fun it is.
I saw this wonderful production over Christmas (2020) and fell in love with Ballet, so much grace and agility. It was my first time watching a full ballet and I didn’t want it to end. When this pandemic is done, I want to go and see a production live. It has made me appreciate what I’ve temporarily lost. To everyone involved, respect. Keep safe everyone ♥️♣️
Idk why but I keep rewatching this over and over again I love the costumes in the beginning love the instructor, the piano player, the ensemble but I wish they had the full dance uploaded
That sound he makes around 7:49 cracks me up

Oh how I wish this song was on official released album.
such a magnificent young people..hard working ,listening to every word..soaking the coach points...i admire them !!!!!
I don't know how I missed this before today. Thank you so much RB for streaming this for us. That dance is a serious workout. Lots of complicated counts and choreography but they make it look easy.
LOVE the high energy of the ballet master!!!!
Oh man I wish it was longer than 9.59.... I could keep watching such rehearsals forever!
A ballet master acknowledging a step is “really hard…it’s _REALLY_ hard…!” is a delight to me.
Great music, great performance! Choreography is outstanding and during the show the combination with images displayed is captivating.
i love watching these videos of practice and everybody being understanding yet open to precision critiques. i get that it's their jobs but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
also i love that - even though they are WAY better - they still get some of the same feedback that i've heard in my classes
7:48 he makes the funniest noise
5:58 “…go down, if you’re down…”
A stage direction, I’m guessing, but feels like a, “do this, but only if you’re emotionally into it,” request.
ETA: (“If you’re OK with doing it” as opposed to “down” as in “sad”. Just wanted to clarify. 😊
Thank you for this wonderful video!!!!!
Then Men's butts are just so perfect XD I CAN"T
With the music, it’s kind of creepy. I like the humor and horror elements that they infused with the show - really makes the production unique
i watched a single video of men dancing en pointe and now my recommendations are flooded with these. am i mad about it? non.
makes me wanna take ballet again
