Omg so true
@@edurneelurreta5087 It really is like that. I just violently smack my pointe shoes and step on them for a solid amount of time.
That’s just how it is😂
But you have to do that or you can’t pointe properly
No that’s really accurate
She had nice feet, after years of dancing on pointe mine looked like roadkill lol
It be like that sometimes 😔😔😔
😂😂 Same here
I swear, dark skin ballet dancers have the nicest feet! They always look good! I’m low key kinda jealous.

lol! I was looking at that wall in amazement! All the abuse....haha! The cracking sound of bending the shoe back and forth was a little disturbing for me because it seemed as if she was breaking bones....haha! However this is very interesting to see.

Two years ago I saw this video and got inspired. I started ballet classes (which I had lastly done as a toddler). I dance four times a week and practise at home as well. Now, two years into training I will start on pointe as well! So nice to see this video again.
Nice
Awwhh congrats!! You must've worked hard to get to that point! Moving onto pointes take a lot of effort, and even more considering how much you need to train WITH them, but I'm wishing you good luck!!
@@chelsearamos3617 Thanks! It is hard yes but I love it 🥰

ATTENTION!!!! This is completely normal for a pro ballerina. BUT I don’t recommend breaking the shoes this much for a beginner. Pro’s go thru so many a week they need to be broken in a soon as they get them but that also means that’s don’t last as long. If your a beginner and only doing a couple classes a week, DONT DO THIS!! So that your shoes can last a long time. U will naturally break them in.
yes thank you
finally someone said it :]
I'd say a little breaking-in, even for a beginner, can help. I took up pointe class again last year, I was fitted for the right pair for my feet, then I banged my shoes just a bit, breaking the shank a little so that it curves nicely and gives me a little more flexibility to go on demi-pointe. I also asked my teacher how much I could soften the box, and she told me how far I could go.
Pointe shoes are not exactly comfortable, and even a non professional (I only take one pointe class a week) needs to adapt them. A brand new, hard shank will allow you to go up but will not have that nice curve that allows you to get on the tip of your toes yet have the support of the shank.
But I may be atypical, I returned to ballet class at 58, after a 40 years interruption, and had 13 years of prior training. So I kind of knew what to do, and most of all how I wanted my shoes to feel. And even for a 75 minutes class, the time I spent prepping my pointes was well spent. I finished the class and even managed an équilibre ! Of course my feet hurt for 2 days, but I still went back the next week.
Edit : during my last pointe class, june 29th 2021, my teacher asked me if I had a lot of experience on pointe, because "your position is very good, your feet look great, perfectly balanced on the tip" ! Which pleased no end, since pointes were never my forte when I was younger, and I hadn't gone on pointes in 40 years ! And the compliment came from a professional dancer and teacher with a rather impressive curriculum.
So ladies (and gentlemen !) whatever your age and experience with ballet, if it's something you want to try, do it ! You may not like it, but you may also truly love it.
:D
Yes
You'd think that a shoe made on purpose for one specific dance would be way more ergonomic and adaptable.
Amazing! The amount of patience ballerinas have is admirable.
They would have to be made specifically for each dancer, and that would be impossible to do. Some of the more famous professionals have special shoes made for them I think. But they still have to break them in
@@annebelleriedlmost dancers have custom shoes not just principals.
People have different feet
@@user-gt8ft6vy5jyou're so very wrong. I'm a professional point shoe fitter.
The shoe is designed to be almost invisible from the audience, which if why it's form fitting.
Came here after i read "Giselle", a novel about ballet by Akiyoshi Rikako. The very first chapter is about the main character "torturing" her pointe shoes. In one moment of her life, when she costumized her pointe shoes, one of her friends begged her to stop doing ballet if it is so hard for her (her friend thought she was so frustated she started to break and destroy her pointe shoes to death lol).

satisfying for you, not for us. (or at least not me, when i do it my feet hurt so bad pretty quickly.)
I feel like most people in the comments don‘t realize that this is a completely normal process. Every dancer customizes their own shoe and what she does aren‘t even extreme things. I‘ve seen people who cut out half of the sole🤷🏽♀️
yup. it only makes amends if ur a dnacer
To be fair non-dancers dont usually bash their shoes just to be comfortable in them
-HiddenCracks- Yeah. But I get why they break in shoes. People break in heels I think, and shoes get more comfy the more you wear it.

as horrible as they are they absolutely HAVE to be gross and stiff so the weight of the body can be supported on other things than the toes :( i totally agree its horrible they wear out so quickly and they're painful to wear but as a ballet dancer of almost 15 years i also respect what my pointe shoes do for me 😆

LMAO I love how there is a designated spot for the dancers to bang their shoes against the wall so that they don't end up putting dents in all parts of the wall and all of the dents are corelated to a singular area. It makes for easier repair in the future in case the dents cave in.
There should be a part of the wall that’s is cast concrete to take this abuse
I watched a ballet documentary and its insane how many shoes they go through! I would have thought ballet shoe companies would make shoes to last longer and resist the constant wear!
I don't know if that's possible. They have to stay moldable.
Makes me think of my mother who is a hiker. I bought an identical pair of shoes to her and they've lasted me almost 3 years. They barely lasted her 2 weeks. Normal people just don't get the wear that pros put on their equipment.
It’s obvious that most of the people in these comments aren’t dancers, this is completely normal, every dancer does some type of thing like this so they can be comfortable.

honestly im suppprised that someone hasn't come up with a better design for more durable pointe shoes that are also suitably flexible. its the 21st century we have the Enginereing knowledge.
HexManiacMaylein they have. They’re Gaynor Minden pointe shoes and they’re fantastic. NYCB famously doesn’t use them because Peter Martins hates them. But they’re amazing shoes, the technology and the material are so good, they were created by a former dancer.
My #1 thought while watching this.
HexManiacMaylein but her feet don’t look like they’re hurting, she just has to customize them
HexManiacMaylein there are Gaynor Mindens, they’re more durable.
HexManiacMaylein
Dancers have different preferences that would they will feel more comfortable with. So pointe shoes that are suitably flexible wouldn’t really work. Other ballerinas want them dead, hard, etc. So I’d say ballerinas would prefer customizing then instead of having a ready made one that they wouldn’t feel comfortable with.
As a violin player, seeing rosin being broken like that makes my heart break.
oof i get what you mean
i felt all of my fellow string players CLUTCHING their pearls

ballet dancers are hardcore as heck! like as soon as they get their new shoes, they get to work on destroying them so they can wear them!
Peachykeen It’s called breaking in their shoes, it’s so the shank and box will support them better. For amateur ballet dancers, they don’t usually break in their pointe shoes, because they will do the same with time. This process (breaking in) is to ensure they (the professional dancers) get the most out of their shoes, although that means that the pointe shoes would die faster.
Thank you! I do pointe and it's nice to hear this. A lot of people don't consider ballet to be a sport, but I do.

My mother was a student of ballet as a child. It was never an option for me. I never understood why until friends who took ballet danced en pointe. My mother was concerned that ballet would ruin my feet. I did study ballet as an adult, and enjoyed it a great deal. One of the students in my classes was an older dancer. She said that I had "great feet". I laughed, and asked what she meant. "If you had been my student, I'd have encouraged you to continue your studies. Most students don't have perfect feet. You do. You would have done well en pointe." When I told my mother, she told me that she knew that, and she didn't want me to be "bound" to ballet like some of her dance class mates. My mom didn't have good memories, so I never got the chance as a child. I was a good dancer as an adult. I never was good enough to dance en pointe.

Regular studio only dancers try to make their shoes last a few months so they don’t do this and wait till they break in on their own but professionals need them to be flexible and only need them to last for one performance so they can do this...unless you are a professional or your teacher said you could do NOT do this to your shoes because they are WAY too expensive to have to buy new ones right away
@penile 1 Yeah, non-professional dancers still 'break them in' so to speak, they just don't do it to the same extent that professional dancers might. It is true that non-professionals try to make their shoes last longer though.
@penile 1 You are so loud and wrong in this comment section. It's really obnoxious.
Annika Dalley Yes, because they’re too expensive to break😂
yeah, i would assume most professional studios get them for free so that the pros can use them to their full extent and not worry about being careful not to let them die too quickly
It depends honestly of your foot strength and curve, I break the boxes but not the demi-pointe and just a little bit the shank because I have quite a strong and curved foot, so it really depends

So sad we haven't figured out a way to make the pointe shoes completely customised, more comfortable and long lasting. 😕
Well, as she said in the video, they’re already quite expensive per pair, and customising them would make them even more costly, and it’s basically impossible to make them long lasting since ballerinas have to bend their feet so much, and any strong material wouldn’t be comfortable :)
Im sure there's a way, but that'd be too convenient. Kinda like how F1 tires suck on purpose.

Guys .. you can still see bruising on black skin .
Jewelzbabiii guys let me be offended.... Shut up. No one said you cant. But they have to be more serious than any little thing that shows up on white people - love a black person.

Lovely. Bring back memories.

@M.nalatgn Fnaf lmao badminton shoes = hole next to left big toe, intact everywhere else. Or, looks brand new on outside, sole is completely flat inside

Soccer cleats: Make them as muddy as possible, most often in the ugliest colors. If wear-er has older siblings, may never get a new pair and use old ones.
im ngl im surprised how her feet are still so beautiful even being a pro dancer. when she was putting on her second skin i was expecting her feet to look like it's gone through a lot more
Same here. Her feet look good! I was surprised she even had painted toe nails.
Exactly what I was thinking!
Yeah I’m not even a professional I go to the studio six times a week and we aren’t allowed to get our toes done it’s kind of surprising to see her with hers
It’s because she’s wearing the right kind of shoes for her feet. If you get professionally fitted for point shoes, your feet won’t look like a hot mess even if you’re dancing for hours every day.

Thank you for sharing.
This is one of the videos that inspired me to do ballet❤
