- This is the moment an MP who had his limbs amputated after a sepsis ordeal received a standing ovation as he returned to the House of Commons.
Conservative MP Craig Mackinlay made his first appearance in the House of Commons since he was rushed into hospital and put into a 16-day induced coma, with his wife told he had only a 5% chance of survival.
On Wednesday, MPs from across the House rose to their feet as Mr Mackinlay entered the chamber, and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer was seen welcoming him back with a handshake.

Very brave man (and his wife) to quite literally stand up to Sepsis
How is he brave? He didn’t choose it, it just happened to him 🤦🏻
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I bet mike watches people pound the wife
Sepsis is horrible
@@Tom_murray89 I've seen people loose there testicles during surgery
What a amazing bloke! Good luck to him and his family!
An absolutely inspiring man who deserved every last applaude. God bless you.
I have met a number of people who suffered sepsis after recieving a safe and effective medical procedure.
To be fair. Anyone can get sepsis, as its an autoimmune responce As it can quite literally triggerd by anything. It is literally the gen Zee of dissorders.... Which is ironic as so is Gen Zee 🤔
Thank you , yes i know, could you see though it all coz we could.
And I've met even more who recovered from Sepsis after recieving safe and effective medical procedures, including me!
you've got brain rot
@@glyn6170 I'm glad your experience was different from those less fortunate and you are well.
So glad that he is here 🙌..a true inspirational human being must have been so hard to accept the loss and to regain his mobility and confident. 😢
And his vision, I read he can’t see two feet in front of him.
Walks in unaided after having multiple limbs amputated. Incredible !
The NHS still don't just need a round of applause. Give them a pay rise!
He went private, that’s the bigger insult to the NHS
They had one.
That's what got the NHS into the mess it is.. just chucking money at them needs total reform
I wish him all the best for the future. Horrible thing to happen to someone that.
Will he be standing at the next election
@@descartesdonkey4291 In a statement he said: "Whilst my heart tells me to stand again, there being so much unfinished business across local regeneration and national issues which are important to me, my head knows this to be impossible at this time. It would be difficult to withstand the rigours of an all-out election campaign, a campaign that I’d always wish to lead from the front. Thereafter, upon being re-elected it would be difficult for me to sustain 70 to 80-hour working weeks which were the norm prior to my illness. I had hoped to phase my return to the House of Commons over the coming months as my abilities improved. Since leaving in-patient rehabilitation a month ago my life now revolves around medical appointments and I face numerous future operations as a result of the serious sepsis that I suffered which very nearly took my life."
What a great and strong character.
So happy for this man, and how he and his family are coping with this awful situation. I had a run in with sepsis last year, though nothing as serious as Craig. I developed an abscess on my upper back, which ballooned and started leaking puss. Called NHS24 Scotland and was admitted to QEUH in Glasgow. The two surgeons who carried out the procedure were at my bedside two days later, telling me how close I had come to popping my clogs. It was obvious they were proud they saved me (I'm 69), I was over the Moon and beyond! On release from hospital, I spent some time researching sepsis and after reading some horror stories, I'm still surprised these brilliant surgeons saved my life. I have a series of pictures, but don't know how to get them on here. Thanks for taking the time to read my story.
And all the best Craig.
Andy
Best Wishes for the future, Sir.
Shame they can't be this respectful to the people dying in hospital in the uk because there is failure of a government
I read his story in the paper today. He is very courageous.
👏👏👏👏👏👏 amazing recovery
The blessings of God to MP Mackinlay.
Wonderful man, you are amazing.
Brave & very appreciative man - my prayers are with him & his great family
Now that's brave.
What a brave and strong man. He seems like the kind of positive man that will use his tough experiences to help others for the benefit of wider humanity. Wish him good luck and good health moving forward
Bless him and his caring, supportive family. What an inspiration to us all.
What a brave and inspiring man what an amazing return to public life after only a year, sepsis is such a horrific disease process which can happen to anyone at anytime, wishing him the very best in his continuing recovery.
Imagine if they held that much respect for their contsituents
Grow up
You’re one of them and you don’t deserve respect.
av seen it, a friend of mine showed me a photo of what it was like by the time they amputated her feet and hand it was to late to save her, its horrible
That was cruel! They were just standing and clapping to remind the poor man he doesn't have any hands or feet anymore.
😄
Beautiful❤
I had sepsis 2 it was like fire going through my body but my hearing the worry my parents went through for me suffering sepsis is something I won’t forget
WHY does it always take a tragedy to occur before action is taken? The utmost admiration for the MP on question - let’s hope change comes quickly and sepsis can be identified and dealt with quickly.
Tell them to get off their arses and do something for this country not the WEF.
Yes indeed
So awful for him to have to go through that. My friend has "suddenly" and I mean like someone has flicked a switch, lost the use of one of her legs, totally numb and part of her torso. Went to bed, turned over and couldn't feel her leg. All tests have come back clear. NHS doctors are "baffled" once again. She had something in common with him, but hers was a different brand.
I can't imagine going through losing all four limbs. This must be an amazing man.
Arm speared or what..
This is the rarest moment that the MPs have clapped in the Commons.
Bloody DESERVED God Bless You Craig Amen XXXXXXXX And God Bless Your Earthly Life Time And Earthly Family Amen XXXXXXXX
Wish him all the best but come on there are many others in this country that deserve a little recognition and dare I say work a lot harder than a damn MP!
So happy for you. What an inspiration!
I am happy to see you back in Parliament!
This is when politics goes to one side. A truly incredible gentleman who fought back from the brink, to regain his life and to show that miracles can happen. A very touching moment and one everyone will remember for a long time to come. Had me in tears. And to walk in unaided shows his strength of character. A quite remarkable man.
Jaberroooooooood
A gear speech of unity for us all.
Unity? No disrespect to medical staff, but how many of us nowdays are being neglected, not through the dedication of our doctors, but through the dismantling and deprivation of a proud national service.
Wellcome back sir may you succeed in doing good for people of uk and your supporters brave man to come back after the fight of his life and still smiling ❤❤❤ all the best for you and your family sir
What an amazing human being ! Courageous, inspirational guy.wish you the best of luck.
from a party that voted against nhs pay rises you can fuck off anne
I’m not a Tory supporter but this man is a great guy!
Safe & Clearly Effective!!!
Not to burst the bubble, but it would be interesting to learn how long a person who isn't a Member of Parliament would have to wait, in many cases without additional financial support or care, for a quadruple set of tailor-made bionic limbs....I'll wait...
Are they mocking him?? Look what we can do? Too soon?
You think the clapping 👏 is bad ..... Until at 55secs in you see a typical MP, coming in late to see what the clapping is all about, practically falling over himself to Run Over and Shake the poor fecker's Fake Hand!✋️
The Only "clue" most of them have, is spotting a Photo Opportunity at 200 paces!😮 or 300 in🦿 Leg O' Las's case!
Plus, did you notice the guy who came in, stiff-legged walk with 2 (TWO!) crutches making his awkward way Up through "the benches"?! Not only are there No provisions for Disabled and/or Wheelchair users, But the same bunch of useless feckers offered the walking wounded MP chappy, A Front Row Feckin Seat! Obviously he'd opted Out of the BUPA Scheme and ended up in an NHS hospital!
Whereas Mr.Sepsis.mp had kept up with adding a few quid to his monthly BUPA [100% Parliament / Tax-payer funded] Policy - just to Cover All the family, Including Pets & Parents over 60!
(I'm afraid to openly write this, but If BUPA etc are Soo Great, why doesn't the Govt. just Buy Us All a wee Policy!?! 🤭😉

In sepsis, which is a blood infection, the bacteria cause irritation amongst other things to blood vessel walls causing leakage and a dangerous drop in blood pressure. HC providers have to use vasopressor medications to raise the blood pressure to save vital organs. Unfortunately this can be at the cost of fingers, toes, and even limbs. This MP is a true inspiration of not letting sepsis get him. Bravo.
Whatever you think of Parliament, or the globalists, ( this guy is a Brexiteer by the way), if this doesn't make you tear up, you are made of stone.
Or you are aware that the kind of care he was able to receive is exactly the kind of care that he and his chums would love to rip away from everyone else...
What has being a brexiteer got to do with it?

A remarkable story and a very admirable man.
So what caused him to get sepsis ??????????
Weakend immunie causes infection than spreads into the blood and distributed to organs and limbs. Thankfully he didn't have multiple organ failure but lost his limbs sadly. Watch out high tempature and getting ice cold after its a major sign
There's been a lot of sepsis, heart attacks (queue the ubiquitous appearance of defibrilators) shingles, blood clots, miscarriage, still birth and massive rise in excess deaths..worldwide... etc etc etc since 2021...I wonder what's causing it all??
@@Gooliejibsonunlike the censors, the experts are baffled
An infection of some kind which unfortunately spread to his blood stream

@juliegwilliam8503 Bollocks to a cruel or indifferent god (all of them)
Respect Sir.
the one tory MP I actually feel for, especially as he's at risk of being out of a job in a few weeks time after returning for less than a week after being out for many many months; spesis is indeed an extremely serious illness, I know from personal experience of it's "predecessor" Septicemia which I developed on the back of meningococcal meningitis in July 1997 age 29
Very best wishes to Mr Craig Mackinlay, I lost my dad to sepsis in February 2022. The doctors were treating him for back pain, as he started to have pain and trouble walking. When he was rushed into hospital, it was too late to do anything. I wanted to take matters further, but the rest of my family did not, as they said it would not bring dad back.
He has been to hell and back again.
I hope when i finely get sepsis i get a standing ovation form THOC as well. Because I've never been found guilty of fiddling election expences also
Well you've done a good job of fiddling the English language.
Respect
The man with an iron fist. 👊✊
Good luck, sir, and thank you to the medical staff who saved the MP while treated for sepsis.
My Father was severely disabled in a industrial rail accident lost one leg above & the other below the knee & was only able to claim his road tax as he could still drive an adapted car to work for just over 30yrs before dying at home in bed now I'm glad to see this man has survived & is able to return to work but I make the point that he will be entitled to claim maximum allowances from a PIP payment award whilst also receiving a taxpayer funded salary-pension which is ironic because his party has now waged outright war on the disabled in this country so would he consider questioning the Conservatives moral ethics when it comes to attacking the poor & sick in Britain as he himself is in the same criteria as millions across the country & I have heard all the stories about the people who claim the benefits but are not entitled to anything so where do the DWP draw the line ?
yes i agree, i did post about this also this man has been in a serious condition ,i hope that he realizes that there are people out there who are not as well off as him and do not get any support ,and have to wait on nhs waiting list for operation and prosthetics , i hope some good can come off of this , i dont wish any bad on anyone ,but sometimes i wish that sunak could go through some real hardship to make him realise his evil ways picking on disabled ,vulnerable, old, poor sick people of this country
Well said, respect to your father 🙏
I don't know why they bothered. He wouldn't do it for them
Im not a fan of the torie party but seeing this man back in the house of commons lauging is an incredible sight and im so pleased for him and his family and wish them all the best. Welcome back to our very own british iron man!!🥂🥂

I bet his PiP application was successful
Why would he even apply? Rich enough to pay for any extra care needed.
How do you know he applied for PIP? Typical leftie reaction from you.
@@radicalcartoons2766disgusting comment
Fast-tracked too!! £184.30 every week plus his MP salary. He'll also receive additional allowances to pay for personal secretaries to enable him to do his work and perhaps personal carers, you know when he wants to go for a pee or a poo at his constituency office. So I reckon an additional £100,000 for his disability. Not bad for an MP. Shame the disabled people in the UK aren't treated like he was with a standing ovation!!!
@@PeterPetewon’t have to do up his own laces.
I know all too well what this member of parliament went through because it almost happened to me due to an infected insect bite that started to turn septic here in the United States. Being a former certified nursing assistant, I drew on the training I had and immediately went to hospital when I recognized the initial symptoms of a possible sepsis infection. Had I not done so, I would have possibly lost both my leg and my life. I agree that more needs to be done to raise awareness for the devastating effects of sepsis and improve availability of artificial limbs for those who have endured amputation due to sepsis.
Love the way they honour their self, what about the people who died of contaminated blood 😮😢
Exactly.
They dont count like the post office victims and everyone else who gets shafted, at the end of the day they all pi55 in the same pot.

I don't know where such standing ovations come from... millions of people suffer from various terrible diseases that suffer without care and somehow politicians do nothing to those in need, especially ovation
I wonder how much of a helping hand the gov would have offered him if he wasn't an mp? Shameful attitude towards the disabled by this government.
yea the NHS was good enough to save his life, but obviously he got his hands and feet done in private healthcare. probably with everyone else’s taxes.

UK has roughly 1200 (twelve hundred) weekly excess deaths.
Great to see an MP show great character and empathy for the NHS and the vital work they do
WTF is wrong with these people yes its a sad situation but these people sit here while people die in UK HOSPITALS ANS THE NHS IS FAILING BUT WE WONT TALK ABOUT THAT AND ALL STAND UP FOR THR PEOPLE WHO DIE FOR THE GOVERNMENTS FAILURES

Asep Medical Holdings in Vancouver Canada possibly could have prevented this , they have a study going on and it appears they are on to something

Almost always voted against paying higher benefits over longer periods for those unable to work due to illness or disability
I'm sure that Galloway will have called him an imperialist lap-dog.
Clapping is a bit sarky...
I may not like the tories or anything they stand for but I wouldn’t wish sepsis on anyone. Thankfully compared to several years ago there is increasing awareness. It meant they took no chances when I presented with symptoms that could have potentially been sepsis - thankfully it wasn’t sepsis in my case but more can still be done for multi limb amputees. I believe running and sports prosthetics should be provided by the NHS especially if the person did sport before - it would help mental recovery as much as physical recovery m
