Toyota Salesman in Ontario Canada here. There is no Access cab/single cab available for this truck in Canada at least. It only comes as the bigger cab here. Been selling Toyota's for 7 years at a high volume dealer and we maybe sold 5 or 6 Access Cabs a year. Hence discontinuing it here.

Pros - Exterior design looks nice, Cons - All digital gauges, ,4cyl turbo/ hybrid 8sp transmission will be less reliable and expensive for (Long term) users. I honestly feel Toyota is jumping on the band wagon for cheap thrills tech for the new generation of drivers and the new era of disposal vehicle's where nothing last for 10yrs now which is sad because they were the pioneers for long lasting reliable cars. People also need to be more vocal on car channels to be pushing back on things we don't want or we will be having crap going forward. The manufactures do look at comments to see what people think, for how much vehicle's cost now we do not need them telling us what we think we would like versus what we want.

I appreciate why Toyota went with the 2.4 turbo. I've owned multiple cars with turbocharged engines, so I appreciate the low end and midrange torque they offer. That said, do we really believe this 2.4 turbo will be as reliable and durable as Nissan's 3.8 V6 in the Frontier? The VQ architecture is well-proven, and it makes good power.
If you want the Toyota badge and a slightly more modern platform with more technology, get the Tacoma. If you want more of an old school truck with an N/A engine, get the Frontier.

...I used to think the SUV trend of splitting low-beams and high beams apart from DRLs looked fugly. but seeing how high the headlights look on the tacoma, not neven a full size pickup... and imagining them blinding me in my sedan/wagon regularly when these things are everywhere... I'm starting to find the split headlight idea less offensive.

I would personally have the 4.0 litre engine. Thats why I go to Mexico and buy a truck there. You can still get brand new FJ Cruisers. Put a Supercharger on the 4.0 litre and it blows the doors off the new TRD Pro Tacoma. Thats a real truck. If you are really saucy, you can get a truck with the Turbo Diesel.
