  • This didn't come from a stream! It's piping hot fresh content made for CZcams, I swear!
    I'm playing on Chess.com -- these aren't sponsored videos but the site seems pretty cool.
    Chess has been having a resurgence in popularity this year so I have finally acquiesced to semi-popular demand and started to play a bit. First, let's hone our skills and get a little more warmed up and then let's conquer chess dot com one board gamer at a time.

      Part of the problem is that he doesn't have a solid base of openings (you should never think more than a few seconds on move 2... especially in blitz and bullet). Another part of it is is he recalculates too much. If you have a line in your head and your opponent plays the next move - then you need to be confident in your calculation and play the next move faster. It's not bad to check some moves, but NL does this all of the time.

    I think something for you to definitely cover in your next lesson with Levy is pawn pushes using these two games maybe as examples. Several occasions I think you overthought yourself about losing a pawn, when simply pushing it would have prevented it from being taken (see c4 at 36:50, this prevents it from being taken by the queen and frees up your queen to go do something else instead of guarding that pawn). I think in most cases it didn't matter so much, but it can save you a pawn or two which as you know matters a whole lot in endgames! Still absolutely pogged at the chess content

They would be forced to either block with Bc6 or move their queen. If they block you trade and get rid of a powerful bishop, if they move the queen you could go Ne4 and bypass the fork/get central control. Maybe it would work, but Ne2 worked as well.

    Rashid Nehzmetdinov really deserves a posthumous GM title. One of the best players to ever not have the title.

    @ 8:30 what about queen H5? doesnt that protect the knight and mate in 1?

    God damn that first game hurt me. Literally could have won with the most basic of checkmates if only he hadn't hung the rook. Literally placing it above the pawn would have been the premove to do, since that way the opponent literally couldn't do what he did.

    NL you should really start playing 15|10 games. You realistically can't flag in that time control.

    • @phyisis8657
      @phyisis8657 Před 3 lety +4

      really any time control with increment. 5+5 is roughly equivalent to 10+0 but you'd never lose on time. 3+2 is roughly equivalent to 5+0 but again, almost never lose on time. 3+2 and 5+5 are both popular time controls so queue times shouldn't be any longer either.

      @@phyisis8657 I never play any time control without increment, personally. I don't like dealing with time scrambles.

      @@phyisis8657 Thank you that's really nice to know! Maybe NL should consider 5+5 then if he is concerned about the longer video time otherwise

    all the stuff that's like after three moves he's threatening mate in 1, doesnt that just make it hes threatening mate in 4?

    • @benyeomans5848
      @benyeomans5848 Před 3 lety +1

      Not really, a threat of "mate in x" means that he's threatening a forced mating sequence that will take that many moves. If three moves beforehand there is no forced mate threat, but the potential to create one. It's something to watch out for, but they aren't threatening a mate in x yet
