Mary Berry explores the wonderful world of simple comfort food, bringing fuss-free recipes that can warm the cockles and lift the spirits.
For many of us, nothing hits the spot quite like those dishes that evoke memories of home. Whether it is recreating family favourites, keeping traditions alive or celebrating with festive feasts, this is the food that makes us feel safe and sound.
In this episode, Mary is off to explore how different families use food to create their own wonderful sense of home.
Mary meets a father-and-daughter team who have taken their home cooking to the streets with their own food van and a family who have created a slice of Sicily in north London.
Mary spends a magical day and evening with a family celebrating Diwali, helping them to prepare the feast and decorate the home. And Mary also makes some of her own family favourites, including a hearty bolognaise bake with a burrata and heritage tomato salad, paneer and roast vegetable curry, roast chicken with melting onions, and a wild bramble mousse.

Such a graceful woman !
Adore this woman. 🥰
God given talent.
Absolutely fabulous recipe! Mouthwatering! Perfect in every way! Congratulations! And thank you!
Such a beautiful dish
Thanku
Cooking with Mary Bery makes fun! 👍🍓🥦😊
Mary you have a beautiful family
Looks so completely satisfying and comforting. Thanks, Mary!
I love you Mary Barry!!!
BERRY!!!
Yep cooked this for dinner tonight , very tasty and satisfying really enjoyed it.
It doesn’t say how many onions or celery so I looked up the Mary Berry recipe, and it’s two of each, just in case you’re wondering.
I will definitely cook it again .
We should have Vincenzo’s Plate react to Mary Berry putting jelly into Bolognese sauce 😂
burito
You are correct This is rubbish
It's a sweet component, it's no different than adding carrots or sugar to balance the acidic tomatoes.
It's a sugar to balance the flavours. Should always add a sugar to tomato sauces. I'm sure an "Italian uncle roger" would approve
You are meant to put grated carrot ,Red wine..and a glass of milk at the end instead of the jam and the other stuff...but this sure looks good and would taste Just as nice.
That’s THE best pasta bolognes
wow i remember mary from 10 years ago. she's still going at 85/86 years of age
thank you for sharing this video! i love bolognese food!
First I am saving this; then, I am cooking this for Monday dinner! Not sure about the jelly, but still...Beautiful! Thanks Mary, delicious.
Looks yummy. I'll definitely try this out.
Yummy
I would add carrots, minced pork and Knorr rich beef stock pots in my ragù.
Blink twice if Marco Piere White is holding you hostage, Dave.
He’s not.
That looked sooooo good!*_*
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 from Italy 🇮🇹
I have already tasted this....
In my dream!!
This looks so.good
Im hungry now
Ohhh this looks tasty
Does she have an official CZcams channel?
What are chestnut mushroom? Can something similar be found in USA?
I believe you might call them cremini mushrooms.
How old do you think the refrigerator in the video is?
Its a new retro one
worcester sauce nel ragù alla bolognese???? mamma mia... (i.e. "OMG...")
This is UK for UK peoples
@@georgianwindow ok, but find another name then. Worcester sauce has absolutely nothing to do with the authentic "pasta alla bolognese" recipe. For example, "bolognese-like pasta spiced with Worcester sauce", or so
that actually looks good
Basically Pastitsio without the Bechemel😂
Lets do a TOP 5 LIST IN ORDER of Who is the best TV Chef ... The most TV friendly... For me it is either Mary B or Jamie O Mary is coming up 86.. Yet she has TV elegance and a great voice over voice as well as talking to camera engagement. Although she sounds quite posh she is for everybody.. Jamie who is not posh can communicate and engage also... They both understand how to allow a little space for us to follow.. Who are your Top 5 TV Chefs Mine is Jamie Oliver Mary Berry Slater Hairy Bikers and Lorraine Pascal...not Fanny Cradock.. who was in control of TV in those days?
Where have you been all my life??
I had to watch to see if it actually used beef. Nowhere in the words was i told. Thanks for the video.
Mary’s extra. She cooks with *two* wooden spoons.
Хочу к этой хозяйке готов пол планеты проехать

This isn't authentic but looks tasty
Where have you been my whole life?
First!...wasn't the video I expected for that
No garlic added
Shame supermarkets don't work to same metrics Mary does.
675g of mince in a country that sells it in 500g or 800g packs.
Yes you could go to a butchers, but most closed down years ago due to supermarkets.
Eh?! I have about 7 butchers in my small area alone, that excludes our market butchers every Thursday & the farmers markets 1 Saturday every month.
I’d suggest using google to find your local butchers because there’s plenty still around, just not the ones *you* remember..
Failing that (as evidently you can’t be arsed & prefer to have a good moan!) - use a bit of common sense & just use 500g. Less meat won’t kill you.
@@LauraBidingCitizen Good for you - I don't and live inside the M25. Nearest is 5 miles away so bus alone cost more than 1kg of mince from supermarket with 5 less than a 12 minute walk away :\.
Paul Gray I grew up on a dairy farm in the middle of nowhere (& no buses!), had to rely on Friday only shops & that’s when we’d go to the butchers.
Have you ever looked at online butchers? They obviously can’t give you exact weights of meat but they deliver to your door, if you have the room to freeze the meat it’s so much more cost effective & better quality than buying from a supermarket!
I’ve purchased from muscle foods before (the meat), & I highly recommend Donald Russell - im a pig (lol) with my sausages etc, had 2 on a bbq at a friends place & I was STUFFED! The meat content is absolutely insane, amazing quality! Far pricier than muscle foods but there are voucher codes, & if you can go in with a friend or family member.. so worth it!
But if a recipe calls for a specific amount don’t worry, just use the 500g, you can always use extra veggies or just leave as is :) they’re just rough estimates.
So buy the 800, use what you need and then use the rest for something else. Is it really that traumatic?
@@noellem3417 Such a shame you missed the point, have a nice day.
Im a tabasco psycho never too much
I misread the title as "Matt Berry's wonderful bolognese pasta bake" and now I'm immeasurably disappointed.
so how many ONYO did you put?
A huge ONYO
Mery berry canellonni beef
Merry berry beef cannellonni
Instead of jelly... How about carrot maybe... Come on
No no no noooooi!!
why the voice over?? Not a good idea
As a citizen of Bologna I can assure you that is not REMOTELY how you make bolognese sauce OR pasta.
A British version
@Sian's Bookcases Yeah, but call it anything else other than “bolognese” if you’re going to do a completely different recipe that doesn’t respect the traditional ingredients and preparation process. It’s not hard
@@Salma.Salma.Salma. Most people just call it pasta bake. Don't think it really matters.
@@SiansBookcases With all due respect, this is part of our tradition, culture and identity. We'll tell you whether or not it really matters.
@@CrimsonDementor It offends you that they have called it bolognese ? It doesn't bother me in the slightest people have their own versions of British food.
There is no such thing in Italy.

She's not in Italy smartarse.
@@jackevans1708 Still though, if you want to have some good food standards you don't do a number of steps she did

I will eat anything as long as they dont put onions in it.
I’m not keen on onions either + usually omit them from recipes but I appreciate that they do add to the flavour. At times I’ll add onion salt, onion powder, or real onion but in a much smaller quantity than suggested and I make sure it’s chopped insanely small or finely grated so that you can barely tell it’s in there. Often in a recipe such as this, adding a teeny tiny bit adds to the flavour overall without bringing with it the side effects to the body
Who gave her the approval to make this recipe go public? Are you guys not sorry for the Italians and other food lovers? You can give heart attack to people!
Not really no. Itais don't care about anyone else, so why should others care about them haha

What???? The Italian in me is fuming!!! This is not Bolognese, we don't use mushrooms, we use carrots too, and cranberry jelly??? Has the world gone mad???????? Mary Berry stick to making cakes! This is cultural appropriation! We don't use stock or purè.... my goodness just stick to cakes please and leave the pasta to us italians 🤮🤢😡
She never said it was authentic
Oh god the love of.... If you're this upset over a recipe might I suggest therapy? And as for cultural appropriation, why don't you come down from your social justice high horse long enough to realize how ridiculous your rant appears to those of us who have better things to do than feign outrage over the preparation of meat sauce.
Cheddar on an italian themed dish? Worcester? Jelly? thyme? Atrocious.
She never said it was authentic
These are excellent additions. Italians stand to learn a thing or two with these improvements.
l never get how you can put salad with it, do you put it on your Sunday roast, keep this recipe in the UK because youll go bankrupt in Italy
No salad with pasta in my house but I thought that was me being a pleb.
A salad course is always nice and Mary is doing just fine in the UK. :-)
@@noellem3417 Salad is at the end of a meal Its fine, just don't offer it to an Italian

You have to season your sauce!!! White people man
Not exactly sure who that woman is, I may have heard of her but I don't know in what context. Anyway, she looks older than Betty White, and by that age she should BLOODY WELL know how to make a "Sugo alla Bolognese"- That is NOT it!! In fairness, it might be just about OK to the average Brit palate, but then please just call it something else, I dunno, maybe "Great British meat and tomato sauce for noodles" maybe, Jeebus... No wonder folks in the UK are incensed by the BBC, how the mighty are fallen... SALLY M, sono completamente d'accordo con te! ;-)
Oh- And what's with the congealed pasta (doubtless boiled for hours...)???
You are a very interesting person, please keep going with your not at all boring food snobbery and gate keeping, definitely not making Italians look like insecure food snob morons.
@@Jambobist No- You see, I am actually Italian, so my beef is legitimate in that respect. Let her cook what she wants, but don't call it something which it patently isn't. That's all.
You're right of course. Most 85 year olds are dribbling into their corn flakes and shitting themselves on the regular.
She's doing not too bad at all. Granted... The pasta was clearly overcooked and adding jelly was sacrilege.
Was lovely but I used pasta bolonase sauce instead
