Chas always chooses blokes over her children. She abandoned Aaron with Gordon because she got tired of her marriage, then she abandoned him again for Carl, then AGAIN for Carl.... and when Gordon came back she was fully willing to choose Gordon over Aaron, only when she learned WHY he was unraveling before her very eyes did she care. Had it not been abuse Chas 100 % would have continued seeing Gordon even if it drove Aaron out of the village. Not ONCE in her entire life has she ever put the need of her children first.

It shocks me that she Now wants to save her marriage. When Al was alive she couldn’t care less about Paddy. Her treatment of him was awful. So what she stays with him until the next Al comes along. She really does nothing for Paddy’s self esteem.

Chas is chronically unable to be single, she NEEDS a man's attention and devotion... and with Al feeding the maggots of course she is going to run back to Paddy. She is desperate not to be alone and will settle with anyone until like you said, the next Al comes along.
I really don't understand how we're trying to somehow compare Paddy and Chas here. Because the main problem in the way the story is being told is that Chas is not showing any remorse for what she has done to him. She has excuses, she's angry at everybody around her like she deserves to be mad at everybody, and she is upset that he won't just let it go and stay with her. But not once in any of this have I seen her feel bad for having lied to Paddy, having cheated on Paddy, planning to take her daughter away from his father, having literally thrown her own son, after he'd been traumatized by his sister's death, out of the village so she could continue screwing Al, inadvertently being the reason that both Liv and Al are dead, and having missed her mother's death, which she has made all about her of course, because again she was busy screwing Al. She is showing absolutely no remorse for any of this and is upset that everyone thinks that she should be sorry about it. This is the problem.
