Buying $40 eBay Coin Grab Bags Online... Unboxing & Review - How Did We Do?

  • I'd always been curious about these since I was a little kid browsing eBay, so I finally decided to go for it and just buy a few! I spent $82.06 to see whether or not I had been missing out for all these years and I got an answer. There were definitely some neat individual coins and it's always fun to do a hunt - no matter what type - and I'd love to hear if you have any similar or different experience with these guys! Definitely a big part of coin collecting is figuring out what to do and what not to do and I hope this video answers some of your questions there. Remember that I was providing retail-ish values... coin shops would be tougher than what I was offering.

@@TreasureTownCoins Having more people like you guys selling honest grab bags would be amazing. So far the only fair grab bag I found is also out of an LCS (Main St. Rare Coins in CT). It's a win-win when a store sells it's slow moving merch in grab bags as long as they offer the value paid (or usually a bit more). I'd certainly buy one if you guys did that!

I actually tried to order "unsearched" wheat cents from Pinehurst Coins, the same place you bought your V-nickels from, but couldn't get the order done. I tried over the phone and the wouldn't do it then I tried to set up an account couldn't do that, so I tried calling for assistance (this is a couple days after I tried putting the order in over the phone) but no one answered and no voicemail was set up.
So I ordered from someone on eBay that had sold over 14,000 hope that's an ok move. I'll see at Christmas as this is a gift for my daughter and I to share/battle!!

You bought somebody's pocket change and what ever was in the Coin Star return tray, thanks for outing the scoundrels. One recommendation for you and your watchers. Reading some of the feedback helps to know they are legit or just trying to sell crap. I and many others will often leave positive feedback because we couldn't claim it was a complete rip off but all the same will say things like, "no silver, all modern junk, etc and then occasionally they will send out a good one and get glowing feedback. This type of thing keeps them just out of trouble so they can keep running the scam. Coin buyers buy huge lots of coins, squeeze the value out and resell all the crap to the unsuspecting public. This keeps revenue coming in to finance future purchases. Believe it....

    # 4:02 That is called a "First Day Cover" (FDC). With the medallion included, it now becomes a "Philatelic-Medallic Cover" (PMC). If there was a coin in the "window," it would be a "Philatelic-Numismatic Cover" (PNC) or more commonly a "Commemorative Coin Cover" (CCC). Pretty common piece, thought NOT from the mint (because of the medallion.) #6:06 $2.50 "spending money" and a folder worth *about) $1.00 (if they give you any more Whitman folders.) .#9:03 More "spending money" (No surprise there's no silver in any of the folders where silver (90% or 45%) should be. # 10:39 I would value the "FDC" at $2.00 9the most). Glad you did this to make a point-most grab bags if not all of them on eBay are rippoffs-lmfao. P.S. Is it a rippoff to buy cull 90% junk silver for melt price?

The stamp strip on envelope with token is worth about 25 cents.

#4:11 First Day Cover featuring a se-tenet of the signing of the Constitution (about $5.00). #5:44 ALL clad Dimes + "Face Value + Folder ($1.50) = $2.50 = $3.50. #7:44 3¢ each ("Wheaties") + $0,50 I"Indian") + $1.50 (Folder). #8:23 - #9:23 "Face Value" + Folder. #11:59 & on except for the Proof cinis, I could use them in pocket change (or "replacements in my collection). The silver coins, again, would go into my collection, or "stacked" in my "scrap" silver pile. I'd call these two "bags" a "bust" like MOST "Grab Bags."
