In a world of 'grab bag sharks' where many of the available grab bags exist to make huge profits by providing little to no value for collectors looking for a variety of coins, it's great to see that some people are trying to come up with solutions. I recently spoke with Cullen Petersen, founder of CoinCrate, whose mission is to create grab bags by sourcing from local coin shops that allow him to make a profit while providing coins below retail values to collectors. By buying relatively lower-dollar (like $30 and below) coins in bulk from shops, he's able to put them together in a fair way and send them out. We go coin-by-coin and note-by-note through his largest grab bag, priced at $100, and evaluate what's in front of us. While I can't guarantee that your grab bag will look as good as mine, I can say two things. First, Cullen told me that this is relatively representative of the average. Second, he's running a 20% discount on your next order if you make a review of the bag/item you receive from him and post it to CZcams or another social media platform, which should keep him accountable for making good vids.
