    A major subject of interest! We often say to patients that the most important part of the treatment is retention! Very well covered by @Mental Dental

    Hi Dr. What's up?
    when can (SCF) be done?
    At the pre retention period ?

    you are the best !
    what is your opinion about glass fibre retention compared to the lingual bonded retainer wire?
    if after a year good retention with for example the vacuum formed retainer, clear plastic retainer, would you say retention after that is not necesary anymore?
    how long does the lower keep on growing compared to the upper?

    • @mentaldental
      @mentaldental  Před 2 lety

      I have no personal experience using fiberglass fixed retainers, but my professional opinion is that the esthetic benefit is minimal and does not offer any significant benefit when compared to a traditional metal wire fixed retainer. Retention is necessary as long as you want to keep your teeth straight! Whether or not someone wears their retainers is the most predictive factor we have for if teeth remain straight or not. Nothing more than night-time wear would be needed at that stage, but it is still important. And the mandible can grow into the late teens or even 20s with very slight forward/down growth afterward, and the maxilla stops the majority of its growth earlier during adolescence.
