Gregg Alexander, the singer also wrote and produced this album. He's one of those super talented guys that really hated the stardom and the spotlight that came with it.
that's not it. these guys don't *hate* the spotlight. They're telling us that the spotlight is CORRUPTED.. and not worth the effort. The spotlight completely obliterates the individual behind the mask.. the role. There are people who didn't trade their identity for the fame.
He also composed the hit for Santana with Michelle Branch - Gama Of Love. The demo version done by him is available on tube.
@@onsesejoo2605 He wrote a lot of hits for other people including Ronan Keating, Texas etc.
@@onsesejoo2605 also wrote 3 ronan keating hits including life is a roller coaster, and the texas hit inner smile
This was MY song growing up! It came out when I was 14 and it was the first cd I ever bought with my own money. My sister dedicated it to me at her wedding and She, our Mom, and I had the whole floor, dancing, laughing and crying. They still send pics when it comes on the radio. đ€©đ„° It's our go to when we need a pick-me-up. Music to live by! I know that album has saved my life many times, and pulled me out of some really dark places.
That hit me right in the gut (and eyes). So sweet. Keep going!!!
The power of music.
You couldn't have bought a better album for your first one CosmoJo....it's a shame there was no more but Gregg Alexander is a brilliant song writer.
I won this CD and Eagle-Eye Cherry's first CD at a bar's halloween costume contest. Good times.

Memories
đ»đšđŠ
I'm nearly 62 but can relate to the band's sentiment in this song. Wonderful to point of tears.
This is my wedding song. I've been married 23 years now. Love the reaction!
Probably my favorite song of the 1990s. Definitely the best one-hit wonder of the decade.
There were a lot of great one hit wonders in the 90âs.
yeah
This song persuaded Joni Mitchell to pick up her guitar and start singing again.
Yeah, this was pretty much a 'one hit wonder' for The New Radicals. But don't let that fool you, the whole album "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too" is a banger. Shame, they never made more albums.
This song has Brit Pop written all over it, and yet they hail from LA. I love the song, but they completely stole from the sound of said movement. The lead singer even wore a Reni hat! đ
Honestly this is one of the best songs of the 90s, it's perfect.
Oh man...this is such a great song. Gregg Alexander wrote a lot of hits for other artists, but this song is like tattooed to my memory of the late 90s.
a cool one-hit wonder. Lead singer Gregg Alexander went on to writing and producing for other artists.
edit- He co-wrote "The Game of Love" recorded by Santana featuring Michelle Branch.
Yeah, his story always seemed kind of similar to Linda Perry of the 4 Non Blondes. As soon as they got noticed for their one hit song, they both quit their bands to become successful full time song writers. They wanted a music career without the fame.
I'll forgive him for that last bit.
Do check out another hit he wrote: Sophie Ellis-Bextor's "Murder on the Dance Floor". It's good.
Also wrote 3 ronan keating hits including life is a roller coaster, shame gregg Alexander never realised them as new radicals they could of been 1 of the biggest acts of the 00's
Which is another great song.
Great message, lyrics are terrific! One of fave songs about rebellion, with positive vibes!
Yeah I love how it's like "things seem like shit but you'll be alright"
"I wasn't expecting that societal uppercut at the end." Literal LOL!
Best one hit wonder ever! How can this song not make anyone feel great? đ€©
Lex, as a song analyst, continually amazes me. The metaphor of being a passenger in a car being driven irresponsibly; she has such an interesting brain.
Drops candy like it's science. Or knowledge. One of the two.
I really, really like this song a lot. Seriously, no foolin'. It's so nineties! It's on multiple playlists of mine. I listened to this on my daily walk two days ago. I suddenly want to wear a bucket hat, a bad-ass windbreaker, and some baggy camo cargo pants!
I unironically love this song.
Women are better listeners.
@@anton1949 yo, I hear that. That is true words.
Brad is still too literal in this thinking.
Love love love this song! One of my favorites from the 90's. To me it has a bit of a Todd Rundgren vibe to it, and that's very high praise from me. Great reaction!
I only hear Todd when I hear this song.
@@r2aul Yeah right? I could definitely hear his writing and producing. The album this is from, Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too, is very good. Two songs in particular, Mother, We Just Can't Get Enough and Gotta Stay High, are excellent too.
got that early 70's sound and vibe.
@@vinceaaron8921 Sure does!
One of my all time favorite albums⊠came out when I was 17/18. Still kills me that he walked away and never recorded another album. Although I realize he kept writing and producing and I believe he won an academy award for a song he wrote a few years ago.
Agreed, "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too" is a brilliant album. Shame, they never made more.
I loved this whole album when it came out.
I still love it.
I still go to it when I need to be in my feels for a bit. It's like that warm comfy blanket that you've had forever that always makes you feel better. đ„°
Yes whole album is good
This song always gave me life when I heard it on the radio â€
I love this song. It's about hope for that young generation.
That album, Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too, is still one of my all time favorites. There were so many good songs, including the original version of Someday We'll Know (that Mandy Moore made famous in A Walk to Remember). It's one of those that I can put on and listen to every song without feeling the need to skip any tracks.
The whole album was great. Definitely one of the highlights of the nineties.
Absolutely love this song, always keeps me smiling.
Just like Barenaked Ladies track One Week. Late 90s HITS.
Agree. I'd add Smash Mouth's All Star
Love the song, yes as mentioned below the guy didn't want to be in the spotlight and decided to write for others. Pretty talented dude.
In just the first 5 seconds of the music video the late 90s nostalgia hit hard. Such a good time I had being a kid then
One of the BEST pop songs ever !!
Lovely guitar and message .. â€ïžâđ„
Maybe this will be played on my funeral some day âŠ
This is just a real fun song. Truly catchy. Video is fun too.
I have always loved this song ever since it was first released. Today is the first time I will be celebrating my brother's birthday without him as he passed away just over a month ago. I don't even know if he ever heard this song before, but I have been watching reaction videos to this song today and basically been bawling my eyes out.
One of the best one hit wonders, a go to feel happy song
Yes my high school years! This is one of the most underrated songs of the late 90s.
Little known fact about the New Radicals - actress Danielle Brisebois is a member of the band. You might remember her as Edith and Archie Bunker's niece Stephanie Mills on All In The Family and Archie Bunker's Place in the 1970's tv sitcoms.
I've always LOVED this song.
I doubt they'll remember Archie Bunker's Place when they don't even remember this song.
this is one of my all time feelgood tracks. there's a trash twee-pop cover that came out a couple years ago that I heard on the radio and it's really depressing how badly they removed the soul of the song. the song is very much "the world is hard and unfair, the 1% holds you down and doesn't give a shit, celebrities you look up to are fake, but you're fine the way you are, you'll pull through, keep the music in your heart".
Brilliant mood lifter. I'm 74 years old and still bang my head to this tune.
One hit wonder but an absolute anthem for early 2000s high schoolers
I Love this song!! It never gets old!! Still relevant today!!
This song stands out so much from the rest of 90s alt rock, grunge rock, etc., that was about so much sadness and struggle. Like, it acknowledges how shit everything is, and it's response is to say everything's gonna be ok.
Luv this song...I also like new radicals someday we'll know
*Been one of my all-time favourite songs since it was released in 1998. It means a great deal to me, especially as I turned forty in June this year (2022). Don't let society break you kids, remember you've got the music in you.* đ
Inspirational for sure đđœâđœâ„ïž
Such a positive song for teens. Always makes me smile. Looking at the video, odd to see the location in the mall! Thinking kids do not hang out there in recent years. . .
Love this song! so happy and fun. Greatest 90s one hit wonder
About time y'all did this song. It's a feel good song đ”
Such a great song of the 90s! I just found an album the other day with songs from this era and it took me back to college in the 90s. There was some really good music back then.
I remember this song. Especially in the movie called Surfs Up.
My favorite song ever... It's just so upbeat and positive đđ€
I've ALWAYS loved this song since it came out when I was in HS. I'm in my 50s now, and still love it đđ„°
fifty eight years young and i love this song!!!!!!
Yay!! Happy song!!!
đ Great song.
Finally!! Glad you actually dug it. The album that this is from(yes, there was a whole album), is great the whole way through. Gregg Alexander, the lead singer(and mastermind behind everything) is a really great song writer.
Yâall are the best! Keep rocking!
I loved watching your reactions. A very special song..
No lie, this is my all time favorite song!
Top 10 one hit wonders of all time!
I love this song
Another one of my all time favs. You guys have been on a roll lately.
đđ
This is a song I never ever ever get tired of
I LOVE YOU GUYS! YOU ARE THE BEST
Love the energy this song has. Listened to it loads back in the day. Shame they never really did anything else
Class track from a class album!
I loooove this song!
Love this song!!!
what we called Nerdđ€music as a kid, call me ađ€ cause this is one Iâve always jammed to!!
I just can't imagine a mall this busy these days. Good ole times.
I heard this song in a record store in 1999 or so and was 100% sure it was Todd Rundgren. Definitely an inspiration there.
Funny, I had people telling me they thought it was a new Hall & Oates song! In the end, Hall, Oates and Rundgren recorded âSomeday Weâll Knowâ from this album for the next Hall & Oates record! đź
I definitely pictured the singer as being like the guys from ZZ Top before they shaved their beards off.
A favorite song!!
I'm 24 from the uk and this is one of my favourite songs
Great song with uplifting message. Always puts me in a good mood. đđœ
Always on my playlist. Another great from them is Mother from A Walk To Remember.
Love that song!!!
Magical voice!!Woah! đ»
Brad...spot on analysis
the 90s were great!
I have always adored this song.
The first time I heard it I heard it I thought it was the new Rolling Stones song! He has a similar vocal to Mick Jagger...
Great song
LOVED this song....a great toe tapping tune
I have the CD Album for this, the whole album is brilliant. There are some really beautiful songs on it. Keep up the great reactions guys. Loving it from the UK
Very much of an anthem vibe.
loved th e song. never saw the video before. it',s really, really good
This song and the King's Switching' to Glide are one hit wonder gems, A breath of fresh air at their respective times.
ALWAYS aplace in my heart for this one!
Great song.
This song has always felt like the closing credits of the 90s to me. Like a sendoff to the decade.
one of the best songs you guys have reacted to
BradâŠâsocietal uppercutâ is the perfect description!
I love Gregg Alexander!!!
đđ«âđŒđ”
Love it
I believe Joni Mitchell said this song is on her top song list.
Love it,keep it up
This whole album is awesome!!!
this song was a phenomenon for a while!
Feel like I'm on Mt. Everest watching a 1,000-mile sunset listening to that guitar solo.
Great tune!
This song should be in a museum where they keep the 'perfect pop songs'. Situate it somewhere alongside Supergrass's 'Sun Hits the Sky' and Suede's 'Trash'. Just an exquisitely crafted gem of a song that makes you happy to be alive.
Exactly. It's essentially Brit Pop from LA.
loved this song growing up
brad nailed this one, it's a young person rebellion song ... "don't give up" "we got the dreamers disease"
love this song. had it on my phone since I have had a phone.
The most british sounding american song
Congratulations to the new parents.
Hearing this song and watching this video made me realize: this was peak 90s aesthetic. Like if you want a sense of what the 90s were, this was the vibe. A little bit punk, a little bit fratty, mixing and mashing from electronic to R & B...
Very nostalgic
The best Waterboys Song their never did! Love it!
I was just thinking that, or World Party.
Jeezo, um sure Mike Scott's up at night thinkin' why didn't I write this song? Oh that's right. I've had hits with A Girl Called Johnny, Whole Of The Moon, Fisherman's Blues, The Pan Within...and more...Yeh, as if Mike would ever compose a teen pop song, with lyrics to match...
Great late 90s song.
