    I carried a Fenix PD35 for several years for my work. It withstood all sorts of extreme and harsh conditions and other than being scratched up , it still works just as good today as it did when I bought it. Fenix has the best quality of any flashlight I've ever owned and that includes several other, well known top brands. I just ordered the LR50R. I can't wait to try it out. Excellent review!

  • @Electro-sportDe
    @Electro-sportDe Před 2 lety +6

    So I tested both and I keep both. First I wanted to send back the Fenix, but: Fenix has a more focused beam, that is in most situations useful and especially for high distance and it has a connector for tripod. But it's big and the buttons are not feeling very good. The M2 on the other hand is more compact and feels very good in my hand. It has a very nice button, USB can be easily hide, comes with charger and a eyelet, that can also be hidden. Very nice. And the beam is very wide, better for rooms and photos. The beam option is also nice, but not as bright as the Fenix in short distance and can't be set at the same time as wide beam. I also miss a security eco light mode for 30 days. And of course the M2 is much more expensive. If I had to give one away, I would keep the M2

    Dang, the marauder is a monster, but the fenix being a full combo may be more to my liking.
    I like that the marauder is a dedicated flood and dedicated spot, but man if that combo doesn't impress.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Be safe.

  • @wyomingcountryboy
    @wyomingcountryboy Před 2 lety +1

    Thank You for this review! I bought the Marauder 2 a year ago and quickly learned it wasn't going to be ideal for open country use. The flood doesn't have enough throw and the throw doesn't provide any situational awareness....two extremes and no compromise. Been a long time Olight fan, (since the original Javelot UT) and I have several now. It's tough to beat the Warrior X Pro for general outdoor use.
    I just ordered the Fenix L50R, it looks to be a good blend of both extremes (similar to my experience with the Warriors) just more of everything!!

    I have both and to be honest the Olight is much more practical.
    I've also seen a lot of people making the same mistake with the Olight to get super turbo you have to double tap and double tap.👍🏻

      @MemphisMojo15s Před rokem +2

      How is a huge wall of light useful, especially in the conditions the video showed? Only olight fanboys would still have to find a reason without actually giving a reason to say their olight is more practical.

  • @therealtampadude9175
    @therealtampadude9175 Před 3 lety +2

    I got the Marauder 2 during a flash sale, and it was about $100 off the normal price. It's an awesome light. That said, the LR50R has a nice tight beam. Might be worth picking one up at a discount. Thanks for the review!

  • @tangoseal1
    @tangoseal1 Před 3 lety +6

    The Marauder, which I own one, to me is the better light due to the spill and flood of the beam. It is more practical up close and even mid to far range it is great for not hotspotting. I have Warrior X Turbo and Javelot Turbo for spot beams and the Marauder ain't no slouch when it comes to spot beam either. But the Fenix is nice, just is not a good buy if you already own an Olight version. Good review. But there is just something undesirable about such an intense spot beam. The Fenix would have been better if it had a slight flood to its massive tight spot. Its too intense as a spot.

  • @MarkRVillano
    @MarkRVillano Před 3 lety +4

    I think I would prefer the Marauder because the light is intense without washing everything out, and the focused beam is much tighter but still maintains it's clarity. The Fenix is a beast, but other than trying to blind everyone in my path, I believe that the Olight is a bit more utilitarian. And it's smaller too.

  • @04mach1speed
    @04mach1speed Před 3 lety

    really a fan of what Luminus has been doing lately. i remember when when SST50 and SST90 were the kings of power back in the day because cree really only had the MCE for higher ouput lights. but the sst series leds were incredibly inefficient and required huge amounts of current. then cree stepped up their game over the years with the XML and then onto the XPL, and then onto the wicked XHP series. so in response, luminus released the SST70, which turned out to be a beast. Im impressed by my PD40RV2. so many people assume that these flashlight companies are the brains behind light tech advancing so quickly, but in reality its the Emitter companies that are the real winners behind this industry, without them Fenix, Acebeam, Olight, Klarus, Nitecore, etc would be nothing. anyways. Great video!!

    The Fenix has throw and flood at all time. You are comparing the throw in the Fenix to the flood on the olight... if you put the olight on the throw mode it'll probably throw longer than the Fenix.

    Two great flashlights but I think two different uses. I have the Marauder 2 and love it for what I need. Going into pitch black buildings, the Marauder 2 lights it up like daylight. The Fenix (I don't own) looks to be a better spot type light. The Marauder has a spotlight function but it is made for a very long, narrow throw.

      Nowhere near much better lol
      Olight quality is mediocre at best. The colors are pretty and that's it. The proprietary charging and batteries are unnecessary, and olight is Expensive for what you get..Fenix quality is better, hands down. Stop being silly. I can shop at a store while on vacation and they carry SF (overpriced) Streamlight (overpriced) Pelican (stupid lights) and Fenix..they stopped carrying olight because of too many problems
      I can tell you the store and you can call them and ask them yourself if you don't believe me. They had 4 lights last year, and I asked why. The man said they are not good lights.
      Smoky Mountain Knifeworks Sevierville, TN. I spoke with the associate the other day when I bought 2 Fenix lights and he wouldn't even recommend the other ones. All of those guys prefer and recommend Fenix. They talk to more people every day about it face to face than we do. Fenix all the way. Why do you think that olight sales so many? They do so many specials and giveaway deals just to keep their numbers up.
      One more thing, the olight literally picks up all the pollen and haze in the air, thus causing a loss of true focus. The olight in this video has a horrible beam with that square and no spill, and a ridiculous wall of light that serves no purpose. My LR35R has a much better spot/spill/flood pattern by far than the olight does.

    I love my marauder 2 ..... flood and spot in one unit , there looks to be a big delay on the fenix proximity sensor

    • @jeffe.8727
      @jeffe.8727 Před 3 lety +2

      Some delay is likely engineered in to find a good balance between safety and 'false positives'. I'd heard comments about rain/snow causing the Marauder 2's prox sensor to step it down. I'm NOT trying to perpetuate any rumors, btw, just curious if you've had any issues with yours. Again, possible that was just a rumor, but could explain an intentional prox step-down delay in Fenix's engineering.

    • @CalibraTuna
      @CalibraTuna Před 3 lety +2

      While I love my Marauder 2 it isnt a false rumour. I've had mine step down due to water on the sensor.
      Now on the other hand, I leave it on for the most part but if in a snowy or wet environment quickly pressing the power button 15 times disables the proxy sensor. So best of both worlds tbh.

It’s also has a quad 18650 pack it comes with but can also use 4 regular 18650. So I’m not sure if Fenix really improved on the LR40R with the LR50R.

    The Marauder seems like a more useful light. It either floods an entire area out to a great distance where you can clearly identify everything in the area without wash out - or you can switch to a super tight spotlight with insane throw. They’re both quality made…just which one is more functional for its intended purpose. Honestly I wouldn’t be upset to own either one…if I was to spend my own money on only one, I’d pick the Marauder.

    I'm hesitating to by a Marauder or LR40R for a looong while... meanwhile there are successors of those ligths available and I still hesitate...
    I own 2 ringchain lights (LED LENSER P3 with 25 Lumen) for visiting small caves during my hikes and 2 Two-Cell-AA-Flashlights (MAGLITE MINI one with LED and one with Halogen modded to LED with around 40 Lumen) for emergency situations in my glove box of our cars.
    I still can not find any situation where I can really use a M2 or LR50R... except the Wanna-Have-Feeling. ;)
    BTW: I love the control wheel of the Olight Marauder 2! But the output of the Fenix is way better, even if it has the same problem as all very high Lumen flashlights have: To bright in some situations.

      If you want a flashlight similar in 'wow factor' but far less expensive, I suggest looking at something like a thrunite catapult V6 (Or their new rendition that will be released soon) the single 26650 powered light will throw more than 750 metres, with over 150k candela, basically throwing as far as the fenix but with only 1700 lumens. It's really badass. Holding something that is no longer than 6 inches, and about an inch in thickness, capable of throwing light nearly a kilometre.... is really cool feeling :)

    The Olight beam is a lot better than the Fenix. As you say, the beam of the Fenix erases the flag, we cannot see it, while the Olight provides that smooth beautiful large flood and its brightness is just spot on, perfect. What's the point of such brightnees in the Fenix if we can't see the object where the main spot is targeting? Thanks for showing the video. Helped me to decide not to go for the Fenix and take the Olight

      When referring to the price, “cheaper” is completely accurate. It is the comparative adjective meaning “lower in price; yet worth more than its cost”.

  • @Isaiiahii
    @Isaiiahii Před 3 lety +2

    I'd like to see this compared to the Imalent R60C. The Imalent has 18000 Lumens and 269620 candela which equals over 1000 meters. And it sells for $200. I just bought one and it's a beast for sure. It gets hot very fast on turbo though, it only stays at 18000 lumens for about a minute and then cycles down, but because it's so short, the whole torch gets hot and not just the head.
    It does really well at 6000 Lumens, and will hold 3300 without cycling down at all.
    It's a combination light similar to the Fenix LR50R. Based on this video it seems they have almost identical beam patterns.

    • @Isaiiahii
      @Isaiiahii Před 3 lety

      @@rich-qk7dc Well, it is important to remember that the Marauder 2 is a combination light whereas the MS06 is a pure flood with no center hotspot at all. Therefore, the MS06 isn't going to appear as bright due to it's lumens being spread even throughout.
      The MS06 might not achieve it's advertised 25,000 lumens (idk), but I can definitely understand why it might not appear as bright to a 14,000 lumen combination light. I have the Imalent R60C which is a combination light rated at 18,000 lumens, and it's much brighter than the MS06 and has hundreds of more meters throw.
      On that note though, I'm returning both the MS06 and R60C. I really like them, but both have the red light issue on turbo, and both are just too small for their rated lumens and get too hot too fast. I understand turbo isn't meant to run for long periods, but they heat up in less than a minute on turbo and the whole flashlight becomes uncomfortable to hold. I wish they made them with longer handles and more heatsinking. I bought the Imalent DX80 which is rated 32,000 lumens and that thing is a beast. And because it's big and has good heatsinking it doesn't get too hot really fast, and the handle doesn't get hot at all.

    I own a gazillion high end flashlights and I would and did choose the Olight over the Fenix. The build quality of the light is superior all the way around. I am NOT impressed however with the fact that the lens is plastic and NOT glass. This is something you would never see on my Surefire or Powertac flashlights. Lastly, the fact that the batteries can not be changed is yet another thing that bothers me and Olight needs to rectify this issue with replacement parts down the road otherwise you just have an expensive paperweight at the end of the day.
