Very informative video. I also have to replace floor pan and firewall. I did not notice any bracing inside the car or it being tied to a jig. How do you know the car ends up staying square?

I have a 69 with what looks like a firewall cut about 4 inches up from the pan / firewall seam area, and an overlap of a new floor pan old pan and firewall with the pan under the firewall. Odd but makes you wonder.... They had to have it apart to do this amount of work why didn't they complete it the right way... Now I've gotta figure who to trust locally to consider the firewall replacement.

I don't see you using any bracing, how do you keep your cars square and level?
+Tamas Kish In this case, the main structure of the car is the outer panels, the door structure, rocker panels, roof, etc. offer plenty of support. Remember, the car is not under any stress at this point, and there is almost no weight on it at all.
did you do anything to take measurments on the subframe mounting locations. any issues when you welded it all up getting subframe lined up? im concerned about cutting out the firewall and floor and making sure everything will line up
I did basic measurements before removal of sheet metal. I had no issues when it all went back together.
Jo Daddy's Garage thanks for the reply.. When you say basic do you remember what points you used im gearing up to do a complete amd floor and dynacorn firewall as well.
I think I based measurements off of parts that were staying place. Like the ends of the rocker panels. Basically making sure the mount points end up where the old ones were. The pan and firewall I used fit very well, and I don't think I really had to adjust much.
Hi there ,great work,as always. What's your thoughts on the black paint coating on the panels? Do you clear it off and paint or treat the closed box sections before welding them shut? I ask because I worry about the quality of this coating. I am convinced it is a cheap spray coating to protect the panels in storage and shipping and has very little value as a primer or long lasting protective coating. It seems to be very variable in terms of quality and barely resists rust for panels stored inside,never mind in the damp and rain. I have resorted to soda blasting new panels and applying my own primer and base coats . Weld points are stripped back and a weld through primer is used but even this needs further protection for long term results. I have tried to find out what paint panel makers use and found out they put little importance on it and use a cheap as possible coating!. What's your thoughts as a fellow end user?
Andrew Wilson The EDP coating seems to be fine if not allowed to weather. It's not a UV resistant coating from what I've heard, but I've found it can remain in place if it's prepped right. i generally leave it alone if it's not in a weld area. I will scuff it with scotch brite, and apply my primers on top. I've had panels sitting on a car for more than 5 years inside a shop, and had no problems at all. I think it comes down to the supplier. The really cheap stuff probably should be stripped and redone as they're not concerned with quality.
Guess you getting good quality panels. The repo panels seem to be blown over with rattle can black rather than EDPC!. I should stop letting owners buy their own panels!. Painting them with a properly prepped and applied POR15 coating has proved to be the very best and has stood up very well to all environments. Can't recommend it enough.
Andrew Wilson I generally get the best results with AMD and Dynacorn panels. I've even wiped them down with lacquer thinner, and the coating seems to resist coming off.

Andrew Wilson My AMD quarter panels fit like a glove on the camaro, and needed very little adjustment. Some parts I've installed on a Mustang needed extensive work.
Looks really good. Out of curiosity how much is a 4 ft tank of shielding gas in your area. I just had to drop $80 on mine at the local welding shop. It's doubled in the last two years

Man that's a sweet deal. Mine is about 4 foot tall. Welding prices are too high around here.
