David Draiman..... a powerful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which goes straight through you to your very soul! He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before........just hauntingly beautiful. An awesome talent. Loved your reaction and your take on it however, it deserved a higher rating imho. Good ear! Someone on Draiman's team DID put autotune on the performance as he had the flu during this (hense the sitting down the whole time). Apparently David was LIVID with them, utterly furious.
It was band that did it was Conan’s people. They autotune all singers. Disturbed never uses autotune. I still have the original vinyl you showed, but this is my favorite.
Simon said this song now belongs to David as much as it does! What high praise! I have heard many times that Simon wrote it as a warning where David sang it as the rage of warnings not received. In our world of text and emojis, email,...we hardly speak anymore and communicating has failed. The neon lights remind me of our phone screens. Lesson learned David.

@@thechloechronicles9688 I didn't research it honestly. Sounded legit but saw on a recent post that Simon had something about it on his page. Maybe look there? He must have surely said or done something in acknowledgment of such a fantastic cover.
*Paul Simon loved this cover of their song. He got a hold of David Draiman after this appearance on Conan and told him it was wonderful and so powerful. There's an interview from The Howard Stern show with Metallica, Miley Cyrus, and Elton John. Miley covered Metallica's song "Nothing Else Matters" with Elton John on piano. Elton John comes on and says that Metallica's song (nothing else matters) is one of the best songs ever written and Metallica is one of the best bands in the world. James Hetfield (singer/writer of Metallica) couldn't even speak. He was so choked up with tears. A compliment like that from someone like Elton John was overwhelming in the best way. It was pretty amazing. Its nice to see bands of today cover icons from the past and see icons from the past cover music of today. *

The Simon and Garfunkel version was a warning to the world, The Disturbed version is pissed off because people didn't listen, Paul Simon did say in an interview that TSOS belongs to David Draiman now, it recaptured the song for the 21st century
Yes! David Draiman, lead singer of the iconic metal band Disturbed is magical! But u really have to check out the official video, its an emotional roller coaster. David had the flu in this live version and nailed it. I heard he had to have a little help from auto tune for this performance. I just don’t know if it’s true. Also check out Disturbed in “Down With the Sickness” official video. It’s crazy!🔥
There actually was pitch correction on the live performance and he was really pissed that they did that. It only kicks in a couple of times because he's just that good, but it's there enough you can spot it.
Fun fact, they've got pitch correction built into the system straight from the mic, now, so even live performances can have it. Though I think in this case, it was done in post.
I discovered Disturbed on CZcams during COVID shutdown in 2020. I’ve become a huge fan. I originally saw the 2015 official black and white video. I highly recommend it. I was mesmerized. I’d never heard of if the band but I’m very eclectic in my music tastes. 60s-2000s. I’ve watched most of the bands videos. They’re works of art. Draiman was a classic trained Jewish Cantor in his youth, as is his father and grandfather before him. Disturbed is a heavy metal band from 1995. Still highly successful! Also intersperse original not metal songs more and more. Just love them! I’m a 74 year old grandma, who still goes to concerts…Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Credence Clearwater Revival, Beach Boys, Doobie Brothers, Metallica…just a few in last 20 years. Seeing Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac in solo show in December for the 2nd time

I'm sure someone already mentioned this but if I'm not mistaken I think Paul Simon wrote the first verse of this song after Kennedy was assassinated. and he was litteraly in a bathroom in the dark
Simon & Garfunkel (as "Kane & Garr) performed the song two months before JFK was assassinated.
David was sick with flu type symptoms during this performance which was the reason for the minor auto tune, which he did not want...he doesn't believe in using auto tune.
I will never get tired of this version and I grew up with the original. I love everything about David Draiman and all the Disturbed guys. They swear they didn't ok autotune being used but the sound guys did mix it after it aired. Not that it matters really because it only enhances talent that already exists when used properly but I believe David when he said that was not planned and okayed by them. 😎

David was actually Rather Ill during this performance . That bit you thought was Auto-tuned was a slight Breakage in his voice , searching for the Pitch .

They did a Covid version of this song, I believe it is filmed in Chicago, which is Draimen's home town. You should watch it, it's hauntingly beautiful.
I suggest you watch the bands video of this song, it is so much more powerful. I also suggest you listen to Simon's rendition of it. I am a 70 year old great grandmother who is so impressed with their skill

I give you a 2.8 maybe....that was arguably the best cover ever and I love Simon and Garfunkel I spent a lot of time learning this on guitar...I think disturbed totally knocked it out I've heard a lot of covers of this song ...there's this 9 year old girl that does a cover of sound of silence by disturbed and I'd give her a 8.2 I think her name is Jaden Riley she is worth listening to for a 9 year old she does a great job an 8.2.ok iam done being angry and disturbed..it gets a 10

NOTE: that David Draiman was really sick and had a fever for the Conan live performance and I heard he was not pleased with his performance, being the perfectionist that he is I can understand why he felt that way. This is my first time watching, and I believe I have a video that will get as close to a 10 as your rating system allows. I don't want to say too much, because it is cooler to see reactions from people that possess very little context. I will tell you that the person I'm going to suggest is a freestyle rapper. Now if you dont like freestyle rap, or even rap in general, this may be the only case where it doesnt matter...because this artist transcends genres. If you've never heard him, you are in for a treat. Not to burst your bubble, but you CAN have/hear Autotune on a Live performance. The Audio you are hearing is the TV choice/responsibility for the Autotune. I guess they wanted better ratings on the Show. But, I bet you know that. Great reaction AND Rating.

It was Autotune. And David was so angry because of it. He hates Autotune and they did not tell him, they would use it. They only did it because he was sick on that day and they wanted to play safe. Give the music video a chance too. It is so damn good.

David has said you shouldn't record a song you can't sing live - without auto tune.
