  • Throughout history, Mexico has traditionally held the upper hand in their rivalry with the United States, but recent years have witnessed a dramatic shift in the balance. Thanks resurgence to the emergence of top talents such as Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, and Tyler Adams, the USMNT has become better than they ever have before. Not only that, these players have played pivotal roles in securing significant victories over Mexico, including a thrilling 3-2 win in the 2021 Nations League, a hard-fought 1-0 triumph in the 2021 Gold Cup, a dominant 3-0 victory in the 2023 Nations League, and a convincing 2-0 result in the most recent 2024 Nations League match. Join us as me delve into the impressive turnaround of the USMNT and their recent success against their historic rivals from south of the border. 🇺🇸
This definitely took a while to make, so I'd appreciate if you guys could share, like, and subscribe :).

My favorite part was when in an interview after the recent nations league match a reporter asked Pulisic "what do you think of another dos a cero?" and Pulisic responded with "oh, yeah I didn't even notice". That statement just shows how accustomed we all are to see the US beating Mexico.

This post 2000’s generation, later Gen Z has grown accustomed to US beating Mexico and it will be hard to see Mexico really flipping the switch to dominate the US going forward. Even with the big stars in the 2000s- 2019, Mexico still had a losing record against the US, so now with the US actually producing and exporting better talent is will be very hard to see them win 50/50 or dominate like they did in the 80’s and 90’s.

Its honestly embarrassing. Even the spanish commentators were saying that we are no longer the best team in CONCACAF in the nations league final. Saying how this hopefully will make mexican club owners wake up. Overpricing our young talents which turns away clubs in europe. Why buy an overpriced mexican youngster when you can probably get a cheaper alternative in south america that's probably better? At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if Canada surpasses us too.

The crazy part is we’ve still underperformed. Beating Mexico is always fun but this El Tri side is a shell of its former self and we should strive for better. Need to consistently dominate the other countries in this league home and away, also need to start scheduling tougher friendlies against the top European and South American nations. And play outside the US sometimes. Gregg has to go too.

@@Clips_FN lol no. With the exceptions of Brazil and Argentina, The US currently has more players exported into the top 10-12 leagues in the world than any other country in both North and South America. around 70 guys in Europe at this moment and that number is gonna go up to 80 by next year. They could very easily have nearly 100 players in the top European leagues by 2026. The US is building depth at a rate never seen in this region of the world before, at least not by anyone except Brazil and Argentina. They aren’t peaking and this is NOT a golden generation. It’s the start of something bigger. But they’ll never be able to use its full potential until there’s a change at manager.

I admit the US has an edge, especially now that physicality plays a bigger role. However, the biggest ADVANTAGE is that the US players are never pressured, as nobody really knows them; this is not their country’s sport. That is not the case with any other country in the continent, except Canada and a couple of Caribbean ones… Therefore, there is no actual rivalry, as wins or losses do not mean the same to both Mexico and the US. This is only a fantasy rivalry created by the powers that be to milk the fans, which is really fragmented but nonetheless lucrative $🤣🤣🤣

Mexico could do a hard reset but they won’t because money, USD is all their federation cares about and any reset will have to be a long term project. it’s taken the US at least 8 years, couple of youth tournaments before that to get to this point. They’ll have to humble themselves and prepare the masses that their national team won’t be competitive with the US or Canada for sometime and that their home World Cup could end in disaster.
Mexico has always thought of itself as a giant in soccer but in reality it is, as a spectator not as a top performer on the pitch. It will have to make chances to the system it’s been aiming for the last two and the half decades.

We almost hung with Brazil in the final. I think we also tied France in a friendly right before the 2018 world cup

The "Americanization" of the sport has killed this sport for me, the Mexican federation cares about making a profit above all else. Creating talent is a byproduct and in spite of, not because of. When I watch Mexico play it looks like they just show up to collect their paycheck like it's a 9 to 5 job. It's just sad. Mexico's national team is in a dark age, while Mexico has improved in other sports. Mexico had it's highest finish in the World Baseball Classic last tournament where they beat the US and made Japan fight hard for a closely fought win, Checo is doing great in F1, and Mexico is still a powerhouse in boxing. But in Futbol, it's dreadful.

This is mostly due to all but 1 game of the 7 unbeaten taking place in the US. Beating Mexico at home is not unprecedented at all. In fact, Mexico once went 11 straight matches without beating us on US soil, a stretch that lasted an entire decade (1999-2009). If Mexico had a chance to host more matches, the results would likely be very different due to our ineptitude on the road.
