How To Create The Trademark SCIENTIST Bass Effect For Reggae Bass Guitar.

  • Only a handful of musicians have an identity on their instrument where you can identify them as soon as you hear them play the first bar of music e.g Marcus Miller. Therefore to have created an identity as an engineer you could only have a name like SCIENTIST, who definitely created a sound of his own. In this video I show you how I create my favourite Scientist sound when I'm playing live.
    I know you can't wait to download the backing track and pdf so click the link below. www.reggaebasshub.com/scientist
    I'm sure you'll agree these are some of the best free reggae resources on the internet so if you found this video and the downloads useful and would like to support the channel so I can spend more time delivering the goods, then you can buy me a coffee or 2 here.

    I've found using filters that let you control the Q and the frequency simultaneously gets a sound like this. As you sweep the filter into the mids, turn the Q up as you sweep up and smooth out the filter when you let the bass and sub through, you get this weird phasing and that harsh mid sound that is just begging for delay.

    • @mjstecyk
      @mjstecyk Před 2 lety +1

      @@bonistik Like I said, any filter that has cut-off and Q knobs that can be operated independently should do. Do hardware filters allow for the smooth changing of filter curve steepness? I can imagine only the more high end stuff would let you do this. Unless digital hardware is your thing, in which case save yourself the money and just abuse your DAWs vanilla parametric EQ or filter plugins.

      The wah is to adjust the filter frequency, Scientist had a parametric EQ knob on the desk so i'm using my feet to simulate turning the parametric knob.

    Nice video! So the signal flow is Bass>basspod(highpass)>amp? Hehe im not a bass player. You can recreate the tubby's highpass filter on ableton. There is the video: czcams.com/video/TumnVWujTtw/video.html

      Correct with the signal flow. I re create this in Ableton as well but those HPF clicks are next level👊🏾
