Duff was a fantastic professional-first time I saw him was playing for Ireland U-18 World Cup Semi final in Kuala Lumpur against Spain. Class act was the Duffer!
Whilst I agree there was a period that he was world class, as a Newcastle fan, I can definitely confirm Duff wasn’t one of the best left wingers in world football by the year 2007.
Part of the reason why Chelsea under Mourinho's first tenure were untouchable. Damien Duff, possessed pace and controlability and that highly accurate left side passing that really was unorthodox
Pity he went to Newcastle when he did, a total gamble. At the time they always yo-yo'ed between very very good and abysmally underperforming, and unfortunately they remained the latter from when be joined until he left.
I still remember a 13-year-old me walking past a bar on holiday in Cyprus, they had Sky Sports News on when the news was breaking that Chelsea had a bid accepted, I was nearly in tears. We lost Dunn and Duff in the same transfer window I was absolutely gutted, two lads who came through the ranks and were absolutely brilliant for us then.
+carefulwithgin Charlton's saying he recognised Duff's ability from an early age, and that he wished he could've managed him as he broke out after Charlton had left. It's made abundantly clear in the video.
Aren't you the great man now watching Damien Duff video's the day he retires. Unlike me who probably was drunk from my comment earlier but it was in April 2014. Shows you I'm a 24/7 fan. Up in the morning, socks by the bed. ready for training.
@@TheLastAngryMan01 He was always on the piss when he was at Blackburn. Out in the local pubs. God knows what he was like in London. That’s were the problems began and ended for him. Injuries, sure. Mainly muscle injuries. Which are synonymous with drinking alcohol.
Duff was world class for a few years
1:37 That's just ridiculous! If Barca scored a goal like that then they'd be showing it in highlights packages for years.
You are literally watching it on a highlights package years later.
Who’s here after passing of the legend himself jack Charlton.
well, everybody.
Gwsv inaccurate statement

A great international tournament and between 2003 and 2007 he was probably one of the best in his position in world football.
He was a beast for Ireland in the 2002 world cup
Whilst I agree there was a period that he was world class, as a Newcastle fan, I can definitely confirm Duff wasn’t one of the best left wingers in world football by the year 2007.
01/02 til 05/06 was world class.. dropped off after that due to injuries and slight loss of pace
Had a hell of a World Cup in 2002 as well...
He was unreal against Spain. How we didn't win that game in extra time I'll never know

Always wanted liverpool to get duff after the 2002 world cup, we ended up with el hadji diouf, the shame
RIP Big lad
Just as he is as a manager. you never know what he is going to do next!!!!!!
unbelievably good at Rovers
Pretty damn good at chelsea too for 2 seasons.
Unfortunately not so good at Newcastle
Great man duff will do great work with the younger lads coming up
I would have loved to have seen him play for United! Definitely world class in his hey day.
What a goal 1:41
Saw it live in telly. People didn't believe me when I said how brilliant it was. Now I've finally seen it again. Even better than I remembered
'The young lad Duff, get him bought'
His finishing stopped him becomming the best
Duff Enuff 😈

The best winger ever
Clueless
Steady on!
Why is Charlton talking about Duff like he was going to pick him. That 14 year old Duff. Think We'll start him today.

Just the banter
Just the banter, lads.

Gutted he never played for Leeds United.
Think jack only thought he played for Chelsea 😩
Aint no Ryan Giggs or Gaz Bale
He's better than giggs
Duff was far better than giggs and just as good as bale
But a lad from wales was next level in comparison
Welcome to ***** !!!!
Next Season with Villa and possibly Lamps gonna be insane
For somebody born with Down's Syndrome to achieve what Duff did is a real credit to him.
