  • This was a custom order I created for my girl Deb! I was pleased with the outcome so I wanted to share it. I'd love to make more custom orders, so if that interests you, get in touch with me by messaging me through my Etsy shop. I will handle the sale of commission journals through them. www.etsy.com/s...
The digital kit I mention near the 5 minute mark is from Cheryl Francis at www.etsy.com/s.... I love her style and have several of her kits! For a list of ALL the Etsy shops I have purchased digitals from, click here: tinyurl.com/mz...
I mentioned Hilma Carlson, the original owner of the book, and since filming I have done a bit more research on her. Her story is interesting but sad. She was born in Whitehall, MI on February 11, 1890, to Andrew and Hedvig Carlson who were immigrants from Sweden.
This book, Vinter-Ros, was published in 1912, so I assume that it was given to her at the age of 22. I was curious about that, particularly since her handwriting seems childish. It seems that Hilma suffered from epilepsy (and maybe other problems?) for most of her life. At the age of 29, she entered the Michigan Farm Colony for Epileptics in Wahjamega, MI.
[ If you choose, you can read a bit about that institution here: lostinmichigan... ]
Tragically, Hilma passed away a mere five days later, on March 25, 1919. Her cause of death was listed as epilepsy. She is buried in Oakhurst Cemetery in Whitehall, MI near her parents. ✝️
