- With the start of the new year comes a lot of new planner babes! If you are new to Happy Planning, I want to extend an warm and hearty WELCOME! We are so glad to have you join our Happy Planner family! In this video, I just give a few tips for newbies on how to best get started and get the best out of your planner! If you have additional tips for new planners, I would love for you to add them in the comments below!

I want to get a planner, but I have been sick (bed ridden) for years. I used to be an artist so this appeals to my creative nature. But because I have been so sick, my daily to do was mostly trying to get through the day! I want to start a planner because i feel if i plan little things it will motivate me on the next step of my healing journey. Thank you for ALL your suggestions! Love the Mambi sticker page. The intagram hashtags suggestions! I am feeling so blessed to have found you! I loved the message of this video. "Just Keep Going!" "Just Jump In" (You should do dash board quotes)

It works. Planning little things to motivate you to get through the day that is. I come from a similar situation and literally started planning in my planner things like "wake up" "read chapters 6-10" "eat" and it works. It really does. At the end of each day write down "plan for tomorrow" and make planning for that the last thing you do each night. Hope this helps and I hope you feel better. :)
This would probably be a great outlet for you! Use it as a scrapbook of you don't have a daily plan. That can very fun as well with the Big Happy Planner!
I am disabled and just starting a planner. However, I started with a journal not a planner. Then added monthly. Track my bad days and maybe diet/reactions. I have coloring pages and notepaper to write on.
Juliejay Similar to you I came to the journal world through an illness which turned into a disability. It was the motivation I needed to get through the day & track small achievements and just something to take my mind off the pain. Im now into TN’s! Interesting how theres a few of us who entered via this route. Nice to hear I am not alone! Love to you girls and much healing!
I love my new planner, and will use it as my home base. I need to find a cover for it. Found out I am not a fan of the bare rings. Lots of good advice here.
I would completely agree about the Washi! I bought so much in the beginning and now I hardly ever use it.
My best friend bought me a happy planner for my freshman year of high school because she overheard my internet in starting a study blog .

Youre welcome! Definitely don't compare yourself to planner babes who have been planning FOREVER! My spreads were TERRIBLE when I first started! Have fun with it, find what works for you, and you'll be great!

Great tips! I have a Carpe Diem A5 planner that I bought a couple of months ago and realized I don't like the layout and system at all. After watching your videos, and looking at the happy planners, I decided to go ahead and give it a try. I purchased the Faith Happy Planner last week. After looking through it, I absolutely love the page layout and ring system. Needless to say I ended up picking up the Mini Happy Planner this week and love it. I just wish I would have seen this video before I started labeling everything months in advance, because wouldn't you know it, my plans changed and I had to break out the white out. So from now on, sticky notes will be my best friend.

This year I came across the happy planner and found your video & cannot wait to start! I wish I would have seen your videos when I first started in the planner world. such great advice! so glad i clicked this video:) i just got my first happy planner about a month ago. wish i saw this video before hand because i made a few mistakes but i love this experience and watching plan with me videos to get ideas. Definitely love the saying "just turn the page" because its helped me a lot with figuring out what i loked and didnt like. planning is such a creative release!

Hi Heather, I’m a week old happy planner and I love it, loved the video and the saying “turn the page”
Love all the tips, what a great video! I actually got my first happy planner about a year and a half ago because having four planners was too overwhelming for me. I had one for work, school, home and kids. Now with my planner I divvy it all up in the rows of boxes. Top row is school, (I’m back in College after 20 years) second is everyone’s work schedule (myself, the hubby and two teens) and third is home and all the things for the kids. This planner has saved us from missing anything important because it’s all in one place! One thing I do differently is I write everything in pencil, then decorate and THEN rewrite everything in my pens. I tend to move what I write around quite a bit before settling on what works for that particular week.
As I have said before you were the very first youtube happy planner video I ever watched and I have been a follower ever since!

So glad I found your channel. Love the tip on washi!!! I was just in Joann's today and was drawn into all the different types. I didn't buy anything though. It was all too much to choose from!
So I bought a Happy Planner in 2016 and loved it; it just had everything I needed and I didn’t even own it use the stickers. Since then I have bought several other planners and find myself not using them enough and it is NOT because I don’t need them!! It’s just that I end up writing on a calendar or a list because I can’t get excited about my planner. So I started looking for a new one and came upon the Happy Planner once again...and the new fall release. Oh my. Now I own two planners and about 6 sticker packs and I am so excited! Thanks for your channel- it’s great 👍🏻

Thank you for all of the great advice. I am a total noob...just purchased a Get fit planner today, but I am going to break rule #1 and go back to get the Big Happy planner. I want the Tranquility but I don't want to wait for it to be delivered. Fingers crossed it'll be in the store!

I just got my first Happy Planner. I've always used an agenda (for work), but now retired and want to do something more creative. So thanks for the tips for us beginners. Glad I only bought one container of washi tape.
Omg your so right about the Washi tape, I really use stickers in my planner, rarely do I use the 50 rolls of washi

Thanks for the tips and advice! I picked up my first Happy Planner the day before yesterday on a whim (really was shopping for alternatives to my Franklin Covey planner and the price was right for the Classic size at Walmart, $5 🙂). Happy Planner is very different from FC, I really like the cost effective customization options. I'll admit the more I researched setting it up, the more overwhelming it became. I'm going to take your advice and just jump in -- you're right, it's MY planner and I'll figure it out as I go along. Thanks again!

I have those pens lol 😂 I got so excited when seeing them
They have worked so well for me in my budget binder setup
I recommend frixion pens for those that just suck at using pens like me. I can write for hours with pencil and never make an mistake. Give me a pen and I need gallons of white out. They are nice and fine tipped. They come on a verity of colors perfect for planning.

The costco pack has a blue and a pink mambi pen! Whoop!
