  • This is the first instalment in a two part series on 3D printer touchscreens. In this first video I focus on RepRap firmware and demonstrate the installation of a PanelDue touchscreen on the Troodon 2.0. In part two I will focus on Klipper and illustrate the installation of Klipperscreen.

    Looking forward to the part 2 for klipper screen on this. You really make everything as approachable as possible for those of us who are just getting started and want to help crush the learning curve a bit and trying to jump into the pool with both feet, super appreciated!
    Super awesome videos, been following for a like 6-7 months now and rewatching for max absorption :)

      Thanks a lot! I had tabled that video since this first part had underwhelming viewership but I'll get it back on my to-do list if there's interest.

    Youre right... I hate it, always hauled my laptop over to the printer to massage the first layer, or do anything for that matter. Love the upgrade. Pulled the trigger immediately. Great work!

      Thank you very much! Good call on the screen. It’s a pretty cheap and easy upgrade for the benefits it brings.

      Thank you very much! You might want to hold off a bit. I’ve been told that they will be adding a touchscreen and Klipper to the Troodon mini by default. I would assume that this would apply to the regular Troodon 2.0 as well. I’m not sure when that change will come but I imagine it will be soon.

    love your videos man! keep the amazing work.
    own one of those printers too and love it.. just been batteling with the first layer.. it either its too high or too low between prints. and the baby steping doesnt refresh in real time.. when i change the data on the baby stepping it only takes effect on the next layer.
    but yeah. its an amazing machine.. i will keep up on tryingt to figure it out!
    have a great day!

      Strange about the baby stepping. I haven’t observed that issue. I do prefer to use the touchscreen for that now that I have one.

    Another great video! This will be on the list for upgrades for mine, the standard screen is a bit of a pain to deal with. Klipper interface looks better, but it is the usability that counts.

    It seems you have all of the printers I'm considering for my first 3D printer purchase... I am 100% new to 3D printing but have a CNC background and love building things. At first I was about to jump on the Bambu train and get an X1C or P1S with an AMS. I was pretty quickly turned off from those by the Cloud features and closed source nature of them. I'd like some privacy regarding the things I'm printing. An enclosure isn't 100% necessary for me at first as I get started but I would like to print some ABS and more exotic/stronger materials in the future for sure. The bed on the Bambu is about as small as I'd like to go with 300-350mm being the largest I think I'd need. This brings me to building my own and I'm deciding between a Rat Rig V-Core 3.1, Prusa MK4, LDO Voron 2.4 R2 (Rev C) or a Troodon 2.0. I would like the option to print with multiple colors so a Prusa MMU3 or something like the Enraged Rabbit Project (not ready for prime time) or similar would be wanted in the future as well. I don't really want to source ALL my own parts so a kit would be nice. What do you think is the best for my use case? Thanks so much, love the channel!

    • @ygk3d
      @ygk3d  Před 7 měsíci

      Hey! Thanks for tuning in to the channel. I wouldn’t let the cloud nature of Bambu scare you. I think the fears there are unnecessary, personally, but to each their own. Bambu is by far the best out of the box and most capable with the AMS considered. For a fun DIY project the V-Core 3 is a considerably easier build than a Voron. I haven’t enclosed mine so don’t know what’s involved with that. Most Voron kits come with an enclosure which is a bonus. If you go that route you should consider the 2.4 Pro kit from Formbot which looks nice and is more affordable than the LDO kit I believe (haven’t fact checked that). The Troodon 2.0 is a nice option as well which is much quicker to build that a Voron kit but is compatible with the standard Voron upgrades, including the ERCF. For basic multi-colour prints with little hassle the Palette 2 is a good option if you can get a used one for cheap. It’s pre-built and compatible with Klipper. The MK4 is a capable printer as well but not great value versus the other options on the market. I haven’t personally tested the MMU3 but it’s in kit form and looks to be an involved assembly. It also has a large operating footprint for all of the filament buffers (as does the ERCF).

      @@ygk3d Thanks for the info and quick reply man! The Troodon was on my list as well for consideration. I see there's some other open source "Tool Changer" options out there as well like WP-DAKSH. I think I'll stay away from the Bambu just so I can have fun building, modifying and upgrading my printer. Still not sure what direction to go but leaning more towards the 2.4 Pro or the Troodon. Any thoughts on 3dprintersbay? Voron Trident R1?

    How come you have clipper on one of them and not the other? Which do you like more? Also did the cable chain removal improva anything? I imagine there is less moving mass. Love the videos, keep them up. I'm still considering the Troodons, I'd love to see a comparison between your other printers and which you like best and recommend.

    • @ygk3d
      @ygk3d  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the videos.
      I have one on each firmware mainly so I can produce content for both audiences, but they are both very capable and I'm enjoying learning how each one works and what is different between them.
      I like each of my printers for different reasons. The Troodon is my favourite to tinker with because it benefits from the whole library of upgrades that are compatible with Vorons. It's also a very capable and fast large format printer.

    • @sabahoudini
      @sabahoudini Před 10 měsíci

      @@ygk3d Yeah I like that it has all the advantages of a voron but you don't have to spend a week assembling it. I'll probably end up getting it. I'll probably install the Xol toolhead and get the best hotend/extruder I can find, swap the MGN12 to a high quality MGN9 for weight reduction along with a lighter extrusion to get into some really high speeds. I'm using 3d printing for some other hobbies and I hate waiting for parts to finish while I'm prototyping on a design. For the final product I can slow it down for extra quality. Then again it should be much, much faster than my cr10 as is :D

      @@ygk3d Looking forward to it. If you want more ideas for videos I'm going to try a cnc light weight x gantry which seems pretty solid unlike some of the ultra light ones. Funsor sells one that's 90 grams. I'll let you know if it turns out good. I'm also changing to an MGN9 rail for more weight savings. I've seen some people do it with great results.
